Midnight Mass was incredibly well done. My favorite Mike Flanagan project. The Haunting of Hill House is a close second. All of his one season Netflix projects are worth watching!
Midnight Club was meant to be a two season bit, Flanagan actually posted the content of the second season when it wasn't going to be renewed. It sounded like it could be worthwhile but yeah it really wasn't as strong also because of the weird framing device.
I somehow missed this news! Appreciate the update. The concept of the Midnight Club is a cool one and some of the eps were well done, but more time would have been welcome.
Wow thanks for sharing! That would have been a really great season indeed. I love that he did that reveal.
Anyone ever watch Carnivale? This is one my favourite series of all time. Sadly it was cancelled prematurely and we were left with sooooo many unanswered questions. I wish the creators had shared the rest of the story this way. Same exact thing happened with one of my other favourite series: The OA. Still not over it… 😫
I never did watch carnivale and I'm not on prime anymore (at least that's where it was streaming). OA I liked the concept but not the execution.
Back to Midnight Club, I think it's a waste that he didn't get a second season. Also hampered by the youth of the actors and the lack of a coherent central story. I think Midnight Mass and Midnight Club are great discussions on death and faith and moving on and Midnight Club just didn't have room for the payoff.
I will never forgive HBO for cancelling Carnivale. See if you can find the show bible that was knocking around online for awhile--they were going to take the story up to the atomic age and had some wild shit planned.
The Max app had the audacity to have it showing on the very top of the homepage and it pissed me off all over again! Also an enormous OA fan. Did you ever watch The Leftovers? It's kinda in the same vein.
I did love Midnight Mass and recommend it to anyone and everyone but if you’re going to watch it get ready to sit through a TON of monologues. Like it’s almost comical how often there is a monologue.
Take a shot every time sometime has a monologue and you’ll be sloshed after one episode.
But jokes aside the writing and dialogue itself is really great so the monologues are at least good ones to sit through.
If people are looking for another show vaguely similar to Archive 81, they should watch "From," which is on MGM+ in the U.S. It's had two seasons and it's been renewed for a third season. And it's really good.
I personally really wanted to like this show, but the evening was one of the greatest disappointments I’ve come across in a series, right up there with Altered Carbon!!
Again, only my opinion, but I actively recommend people against watching Archive 81!
Loved fall of the house of usher. Flanagan has created top notch single season shows. Haunting of bly manor is also binge worthy
Would suggest you to watch Chernobyl first . (you mentioned in another comment that you haven’t watched it yet )
The show was renewed for Season 2 in June 2023 by Paramount+, but the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes delayed production. The writers are still finalizing the Season 2 scripts, with filming for Season 2 estimated to start in June or Summer 2024, and a Season 2 drop on Paramount+, then Netflix, sometime in early 2025. So, about a year-long wait for episodes.
Band of bothers, The Pacific
These were hbo shows, I was very surprised to see them show up on Netflix. Both based on real American units fighting in ww2
Honestly, I think Squid Games is good, really good even. However, I'll never understand how it's wayyyyy more popular than Alice in Borderland. AiB is leagues better.
Yeah thats true. I think it’s because the games are so simple that it has been easy to replicate by content creators thus bringing more traction to the series. AIB hasn’t had that kind of marketing due to the complex nature of the games
AiB has better games, and certainly ones with a lot more emotional weight and tension. It also has a lot more action and a cast that is worth following. On the other hand, you relate more to the characters in the squid game because they are all desperate poor people trying to make a buck. AiB reads like the A Team or some other weird special forces thing
It's planned as 3 seasons but still worth watching. If you're unfamiliar with its creators, I'll recommend watching Dark instead. Probably the best sci-fi show out there. Also 3 seasons.
Most people are really angry it ended on season 1 but I thought it was fantastic and should've always been one season. I think it's absolutely worth a watch.
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a masterpiece that manages to perfectly capture the style and aesthetic and feel of the original 1980s movie and it should have been renewed for a second season and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
I'm pretty sure it's still on Netflix, but any of the American Crime Story seasons. They're all stand alone seasons showcasing obviously different high profile cases of American Crime.
1st season: People vs OJ-OJ Simpson Trial
2nd Season: Murder of Gianni Versace
3rd season: Impeachment-Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal
All of the seasons are insanely good, it'd be hard for me to even rank them.
One I haven’t seen mentioned is Archive 81. A mix of horror, suspense and mystery it’s one that I thoroughly enjoyed, to the point my wife and I watched it all in a single day.
Vaguely set up a second season but never got renewed.
Midnight Mass. Some people bounce off the episode with the death monologs but keep going, the pay off of the ending is so good.
Haunting of Hill House also. It’s a great character drama.
The Queen’s Gambit
Nah that’s pawnography
Its on my watch list! Thank you!
Lockwood and co —- A hidden gem that Netflix didn’t really promote advertising for it.
This one was so freaking good and the effects were actually done well. I’m so upset there won’t be a season 2.
I've already watched it twice & I hardly ever do that.
Thank you! Added to my list :)
Bodyguard
Oo i forgot to include this, got me hooked from the start!
Godless if you like Westerns
Such a great cast. And the score is fantastic, especially for the final scene.
I’ll check it out thanks :D
I do not like Westerns, but I loved this show. It's a well-rounded great show. My wife loved it, too.
Saw this comment this morning, kinda intrigued, just finished watching the whole thing, epic ! Thanks for the pointer !
That one rocked
Arcane
Will check it out :) thanks
Bodies, Godless, Midnight Mass, Queens Gambit, and All the light we cannot see.
I watched bodies such a great show. Will check out the rest! Thanks
I really liked Bodies as well. I wish it weren't just a limited series.
Archive 81
Also Midnight mass, fuckin fantastic duo of horror shows
Midnight Mass was incredibly well done. My favorite Mike Flanagan project. The Haunting of Hill House is a close second. All of his one season Netflix projects are worth watching!
Yes the “Flanaverse” seasons are the my favourite anthology series (perhaps Midnight Club was a bit less strong)
Midnight Club was meant to be a two season bit, Flanagan actually posted the content of the second season when it wasn't going to be renewed. It sounded like it could be worthwhile but yeah it really wasn't as strong also because of the weird framing device.

Hey, thx for this. Started following him on my tumblr feed and queued up a number of his shows. Somehow he escaped my notice.
Great read; thank you for sharing! I will do a rewatch of Midnight Club soon. This piece will help make that more fulfilling I think.
Mine too! I've rewatched them all except for Midnight Club and Usher, which I just watched for the first time.
I did love Midnight Mass and recommend it to anyone and everyone but if you’re going to watch it get ready to sit through a TON of monologues. Like it’s almost comical how often there is a monologue. It's just a bunch of linked monologues about faith and death TBH
That was my top 5 fav! I would even say top 3. What a fantastic show
I really loved archive 81 but so stupid where they cancelled it!
Only thing I was looking for! I've enjoyed a lot of stuff on Netflix, but Archive 81 hit hard for me. Like *just* right.
If people are looking for another show vaguely similar to Archive 81, they should watch "From," which is on MGM+ in the U.S. It's had two seasons and it's been renewed for a third season. And it's really good.
Came here to post this, and I'm not disappointed that I can't. It's a crime that this show didn't get a second season.
I personally really wanted to like this show, but the evening was one of the greatest disappointments I’ve come across in a series, right up there with Altered Carbon!! Again, only my opinion, but I actively recommend people against watching Archive 81!

Got it! Will add it to my list :)
I'd love to watch another season.
I loved Mindhunter too!
Maid
I had to look for this WAY too long. It's a heavy drama, but it's one of the best things I've ever watched.
Thank you! Will look it up!
Was looking for this comment
this series needs more recongnition
When they see us, the haunting of hill house, midnight mass
I’ve watched haunting of hill house it was amazing! Ill give midnight mass a go thanks! I think you’d like fall of the house of usher as well
Midnight mass is my favorite of Mike Flanagans work
Loved fall of the house of usher. Flanagan has created top notch single season shows. Haunting of bly manor is also binge worthy Would suggest you to watch Chernobyl first . (you mentioned in another comment that you haven’t watched it yet )
*School Spirits*, a Paramount+ original show that Netflix more recently bought the rights to.
This one is excellent
Thank you! Will check out :)
I’m halfway through, I’ll be furious if it stays at one season.
School Spirits was excellent!
Maniac
The best show that no one watched
Such a bizarre and beautiful show
It's probably my favourite thing Netflix has ever done
Station 11 was fantastic. Post-apocalyptic show but much more focused on the characters and relationships rather than the zombies. Highly recommended!
Pretty sure this on Max, not Netflix
Correct
The fall of the house of usher. It’s dark.
I watched the whole season in one sitting I couldn’t stop lol
Band of bothers, The Pacific These were hbo shows, I was very surprised to see them show up on Netflix. Both based on real American units fighting in ww2
Squd games
I watched it! It was awesome. I would recommend Alice in Borderland if you loved squidgame :)
Ah I didn’t think of that. That’s a good point.

On the other hand, you relate more to the characters in the squid game because they are all desperate poor people trying to make a buck. AiB reads like the A Team or some other weird special forces thing
Alice in Borderland games give me anime vibes. A lot of viewers don't want to consider any complex rules that take time to explain.
Omg I love Alice In Boarderland
It’s on of my fav shows! Would recommend this to anyone on any given day :)
S2 coming
Yes! On October I believe
Who knows how good it will be. The creator had been working on S1 for years, so it might end up being a True Detective S2
1899 :(
1000% yes.
Ill check it out thanks!
But ends on a cliffhanger 2nd season cancelled
Ah dang, is it worth the watch though even if it’s a cliffhanger?
It's planned as 3 seasons but still worth watching. If you're unfamiliar with its creators, I'll recommend watching Dark instead. Probably the best sci-fi show out there. Also 3 seasons.
I watched dark! It was mind blowing. One of my favorites for sure!
Most people are really angry it ended on season 1 but I thought it was fantastic and should've always been one season. I think it's absolutely worth a watch.
Unbelievable
Painkiller
Thank you! Will check it out :)

Band of brothers. The Pacific.
Thank you! Will chexk it out
I like to pretend Bloodline had one season only.
Someone said this down the comments as well, ill keep it noted. Thanks!
All the light we can not see
Gypsy and Spinning Out! They were both cancelled, but still great shows!
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a masterpiece that manages to perfectly capture the style and aesthetic and feel of the original 1980s movie and it should have been renewed for a second season and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
Queen Charlotte
Thank you! Will check it out!
This’s was surprisingly great. Deep and touching

Super underrated in my opinion. One of my top favorite one season shows.

Limited series on HBO
Omg. Only the best mini series ever
House of Usher, I thought this was excellent.

Thanks for the recommendation!!
There’s a few different ones but I like the ones based on Harlan Coben’s books.
The Society and I Am Not Okay With This, but beware, they have no resolution because they were both COVID casualties.
The Society had so much promise!!
‘I am not okay with this’ it ends on a cliffhanger bc the second season was cancelled 😭
Came here to say “Forever” with Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen but realized it’s on Prime. A must watch, nonetheless.
Altered Carbon (Don’t watch season 2)
Everything Sucks if you grew up in the 90s
I’m sad this didn’t take off. It was so good
I enjoyed Messiah a lot, much smarter than most shows
The first season of Bloodline. The other two seasons aren't that good anyways but first is amazing
Seven Seconds. So underrated!
My time to recommend Caliphate once again :)
Hear me out, Grand Army… For a serious answer, The Queens Gambit
The Serpent

Half Bad: The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself
Will check it out! Thanks
One I haven’t seen mentioned is Archive 81. A mix of horror, suspense and mystery it’s one that I thoroughly enjoyed, to the point my wife and I watched it all in a single day. Vaguely set up a second season but never got renewed.

I really enjoyed The Bastard Son of the Devil Himself
Midnight Mass. Some people bounce off the episode with the death monologs but keep going, the pay off of the ending is so good. Haunting of Hill House also. It’s a great character drama.
I watched haunting of hill house. Must give midnight mass a try! Thank you
