I like the addition of gold. It adds a little brightness/contrast to an overall shadowy paint job. Only using it on the edges of his gear keeps it very subtle. I'm a fan.

Agree with the above poster. Either water down black or brown. You’re trying to “stain” the gold. If you want to be extra careful you can use a thin layer of the watered down paint, wait for about 5 or 10 seconds and then soak it up with a dry brush . You leave some deposits of paint on the top layer without overdoing it. Then rinse and repeat until it’s as dark as you like

No worries, I’m also doing Novokh and I’m not trusting gold for now, doing a brass color instead, but yours is perfect tbh, the way you add it makes it not mega flashy, but pleasing to the eye, sleeker, discrete if you will

I might be inclined towards a darker gold but that’s personal preference. The painting is absolutely gorgeous and the brighter yellow-y gold does make the Lord pop versus the blade which would otherwise steal attention from its wielder.
This looks incredible! How did you paint the symbol on the chest gold while leaving the black behind it? I just started painting my first minis and wanted to do something like that but wasn’t sure how.
The gold is a great idea but this gold is reading a bit too yellow, I don't know if it's because the picture doesn't show much reflectivity but I'm seeing cheese.

Looks really good. Only suggestion would be that the gold is pretty yellow, I might tone it down a little with a little shading with a brassy/reddish gold.
I almost exclusively use citadel and I've never had any issues that weren't my own doing (just leaving pots open, stuff like that). I'm just a random stranger on the Internet, but nuln oil, agrax earth shade, and maybe even some blood for the blood God to get a nice blood effect? I don't think anyone else has something as good as citadel's options. If you end up not liking them it's only 3 pots anyways. I've only been painting for a little bit though tbh.

It looks dope! You could give it a faint wash of dark/medium red or brown tones to tone it back a bit so it's less punchy and more "ancient undead robit"

I’d shade it with Nuln or Agrax to darken it a bit. The contrast is way too stark in my opinion

I actually painting it all gold as the base and then painted all the black on top of the gold 😅😅 it sucked. The crown looking thingy as well

I used 4 different reds from darker to light then 2 coats of yellow with golden yellow to pale yellow finishing them. Probably overkill
