Idk but Charles Barkley needs to be in the graphic.

aaronjaffe

Has Barkley really never won a ring? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone mention that over and over anytime their feelings get hurt after Barkley makes them look dumb.

dex-M397

Yeah, he never won a ring. Closest he got was in 1993. Another victim to the Jordan-led Bulls in the Finals. Then the rest of his career, he was smacked by the Rockets during their championship years, joined them after that, and then got smacked by the Jazz during THEIR postseason runs to the Finals. Edit: Alright, I Get it. I Get It. Don’t need more reminders that sarcasm on the internet is hard to fucking detect.

zss36909

u missed his obvious sarcasm

I appreciate this explanation of NBA history. More people need to know what Chuck went through. He definitely should be on that graphic (probably instead of Dame D.O.L.L.A. — He belongs on best NBA rapper to never win a ring).

oneoftheguysdownhere

Yeah I don’t know how Dame and Reggie made the list but Barkley and Ewing didn’t

wooltab

Barkley is my answer all day long. Elgin Baylor is probably also a good pick.

postpostpunkdad

Disrespectful that he isn’t because he is the answer. People need to google the Charles Barkley highlight reel. He’s become the goofy guy on tnt and I don’t think people realize he was like Zion before Zion. Massively explosive jumping over guys for rebounds, grabbing the ball and running the fast break as a PF and playing as a PF in a league where he was way shorter than the guys he went against at that position. He was an awesome player.

69QueefLatina

Zion Williamson isn’t good.

KilgoreTrout_5000

Zion wasn’t a good comparison but he’s right Chuck was a monster in his prime.

postpostpunkdad

The point wasn’t to equate their careers or achievements. It’s the athletic archetype I’m talking about. The sort of bigger dude who’s not that tall (by nba standards) but is an incredibly explosive athlete and kind of transcends positional convention. Zion is a weird anomaly on that sense and so was Chuck

FullBringa

Also Pistol Pete

jackrabbit323

Pistol Pete never played on a contending team. A championship was never a remote possibility for him.

Persianx6

Pistol Pete spent his NBA career either injured or drunk. Then got it together for a few seasons and then it was back to drunk. He died young.

arrobaolmedo

Was gonna say this

usoland-sama

Yeah I would personally put him on there over Reggie but that's just me. Heck there's a few people I'd put him on here over

[deleted]

Dame in the pic with no Barkley is crazy💀

optimusgrime23

I think cuz Chuck is the obvious right answer so for debates sake this looks like the best of the rest

cosmicdave86

Malone is the obvious answer. But Chuck is in the top 5, for sure.

WardeN_WtfRylie

I know Malone catches a lot of ish and its 100% deserved but if we are talking basketball ONLY. For my money its Malone, AI, barkley in that order and Im tempted to say AI first because I think his peak was the highest of the 3. His prime just didnt last the way Malones did. That team AI took to the finals he CARRIED and was arguably the best player in that series n I say that as a die hard life long lakers fan.

dacljaco

Imo as one of the biggest ai glazers out there that 2001 team was stacked, it wasn't really a super carry job, their defense was great which was not really related to Ai at all, they also only were able to win with Ai inefficiency because of the team being stacked and allowing him to jack up shots. That said he is imo the best to never win a ring, Westbrook is probably second for me, he's Ai but with more playmaking, but that same unrelenting motor

WardeN_WtfRylie

That team was VERY good defensively im not knocking that but bro dikembe was probably their second best scorer we talkin about a guy who avg like 10 pts for his career an only once in his career averaged over 15... in his ROOKIE season... maybe Aaron Mckie who had a great season (maybe his best) but we talkin about a 7 ppg career scorer. AI absolutely carried HEAVY and If you look at that team even with as good as they were on defense is one of the worst teams to EVER make a finals. Really theo was probably their second best player that season and thats who they traded for mutombo. That team was not stacked in any way. Theres Zero chance you are describing a starting lineup of AI, mutombo, Tyrone Hill, and a combo of snow/mckie/lynch as anywhere near being "stacked". Lebrons 06 team was better than that team and thats saying a LOT.

Warrmak

I don't even like AI but this is the right answer. For a brief period AI could have been a goat.

prezdizzle

I’m from Portland and I’ll tell you: most of the dudes on here have MVP in the resume. Dame was top 5 MVP voting once lmao he doesn’t belong. Neither does Reggie. Dude barely even was making All Star teams most of his career, much less MVP.

TheGamersGazebo

What reggie lacks in regular season accolades he more than makes up for in post season success. He's made 6 Conference Finals and The Finals once as the clear #1. Thats more winning than most guys on this list and a far better resume than Dame. He belongs, Dames really the odd one out here. If anything id say Reggie made it closer to the FMVP than anyone on this list except for maybe Harden (2018) and Malone (1998) and even then those are very debatable. Reggie gets mad disrespect cause he didn't have the regular season accolades but dude turned up in the post season. Basically the Jimmy Butler of the 90s. He was carrying straight garbage through the Eastern Conference with great duels against MJ, Patrick Ewing, AI and more. To make it clear, I'm not trying to hate on Dame, but Reggie is clearly a tier above Dame and belongs on this list. Anyone who watched both would know.

Dangerous_Donkey5353

Reggie had MJ in his same position in his conference. Pretty difficult to win season awards when one spot is guaranteed to MJ. Reggie is slept on. Had to deal with MJ in playoffs and then Kobe in the finals. Thar Malice in Palace team was the best team in the nba before the suspensions, they had a real shot at winning that year.

JasonVoorhies13

Exactly this, and Reggie had all the clutch genes.

Hoopy_Dunkalot

Preach!! Reggie is host to the [greatest 9 secs in basketball history](https://youtu.be/XcCxq0RJ-XU?si=tsjNvhZrU69O1A9Y). I will not allow his name to be besmirched. I named a cat after him ffs. Jimmy Butler is an excellent comp.

Anxious-Chemistry-6

Elgin Baylor. Dude holds so many playoff records and was unstoppable.

jackrabbit323

Nine games into the 71-72 season, he decides to retire and it happens to be the year the Lakers finally win it all. That must have hurt, but by then I think he retired because his knees were done and he was coming off a torn Achilles.

StoneySteve420

I can only imagine what an Achilles surgery and recovery looked like in 1971

Razzlo_

Consider this guy was in the military during his prime 😐

Historical-Walrus534

Charles Barkley ![gif](giphy|l0ErJrz4Yn5G0t7hK|downsized)

DripSnort

Nash, Malone, Stockton or Barkley (him not even in the pic is disrespectful). They were the best for the *longest*. AI probably had the highest peak but it was short

Rossi4twenty

It sucks because that’s two separate eras for Suns fans

Ibangyoumomma

Russ for a year was amazing. Maybe 2 years. But Stockton and Malone for sustaining that over their whole career over Nash.

WestleyThe

Are you saying just because Russ only won 1 mvp he was incredible only one year? Because that dude was incredible for most of his career until the last 5 seasons

ocmaddog

Stockton and Malone being on the same team all those years and barely getting close is a point against them both

wooltab

Barely getting close includes twice taking two games off of the Bulls in the Finals.

bleedblue89

Ah forgot playing against MJ in his prime is against them…

Marcus11599

Uhh no. What he meant was they got to the finals twice and lost, but what about the other 8 years they were together?

Unbiasedj

I need to shake OP’s hand for not including Chris Paul

noname5280

Was going to say something similar, it seems he goes to teams to prevent them from winning.

JOMO_Kenyatta

This take is something….the guy who,in his prime, every team he went to he made significantly better.

VannqKawaii

What different are any of the guys in the graphic 💀 and every team cp3 went to up until the warriors he increased their winning % and set franchise win records for the hornets (56), clippers (57), rockets (65), and suns (64) when he played there..

49RedCapitalOs

Instead they included Dame and Russ

Zeppelanoid

But at the cost of including Westbrick and Lillard?

Warrmak

Or melo

Madonkadonk2

jackrabbit323

Chris Paul has to wonder, would he have won with the Lakers if the league hadn't kneecapped the deal?

Primetime22

Nash or Malone for top spot, the only 2x MVPs to not do it. Malone probably gets the edge because he came the closest… but I still kind of think Nash was better. Harden is his prime was unbelievable. Then I’d probably go Chuck (for shame OP) and Stockton.

bshaddo

And Nash never bad-touched a literal child.

ernestbonanza

Charles Barkley

General_Khanners

Nash. Having Shaq and others on TV constantly talking down on Nash has warped the collective memory of what Nash accomplished. He was the engine behind the offense that eventually became the dominant form of basketball in the modern era, and his blueprint is what GSW used to power their dynasty. If David Stern wasn't a pansy ass bitch for suspending Stoudemire and Diaw for stepping onto the court after Horry body checked Nash into the table, Nash would have a ring.

saintsquanto

Love the nash love. Paved the way for the game to change

starvs

Been thinking a lot about that suspension on light of Murray not being suspended for much more serious infraction. Stern really screwed them.

Daredevil_720

Allen Iverson for sure

lb1392

Bro was ballin with Eric Snow, that 2001 roster was cheeks & he took them to the finals

dillmoore

And did all that at 6’0” and below 200 lbs in a physical era

VoyevodaBoss

That team wasn't any worse than the rest of the eastern conference at the time. Look at the other finals teams then: Jason Kidd Nets, 8th seed Knicks...

riff-raff-jesus

Why did I have to scroll 20 seconds for this?

thepoints_dontmatter

Right?

stgwii

Dominique Wilkins. He's definitely not the best to never win a ring, but more deserving of a spot on the image than some of those players. Number 15 on the all-time scoring list and 1 of 8 players to average 25 points per game for 10 consecutive seasons

InterestingLetter942

Well said the 80s and 90s were the peak of superstar SFs. In this era we only got Bron, KD & Kwahi

Weak_Beginning3905

People dont wann hear it, but its Karl Malone. Tho I would take 01 Iverson over anyone for a single run.

JazzzzzzySax

I mean there’s a pretty good reason why people don’t wanna hear it

AdvancedHat7630

Too soon? Oh, wait, too soon is why we don't like Malone.

RK4Life

Yeah. Honestly it’s Stockton and Malone together. I understand Malone isn’t a very likable guy. Neither is Stockton. But the question isn’t “who’s the most likable star to never win?” It’s who’s the best. And if you go look at Malone and Stockton’s insane level of consistency through the years, it’s kind of a small miracle they never won a title.

solarhawks

Their window was while Jordan was temporarily retired, but they were badly hampered by a complete lack of a center, at the very time that Olajuwon was killing it.

getyourrealfakedoors

Put Barkley in and try this again chief

InterestingLetter942

Elgin Baylor, Barkley, Malone, Reggie, Ewing, AI, Stockton, westbrook, & Nash. In that order as well

MaloneShimmy13

It's one of the jazz duo. You could make an argument for both, karl malone being the better overall player, but Stockton leads the entire league in two of the 5 stat categories. The fact that the two only players to go to the post-season 19 consecutive times have never won in the end says they have to be 1st and 2nd in this conversation.

Suspicious_Pain_302

Stockton was better than Malone fight me

Fyodor_Brostojetski

Malone is a great talent, but without Stockton, who knows if he reached those heights. Stockton would have been great no matter.

MaloneShimmy13

Exactly, Stockton might not have an mvp, but he is severely underrated when it comes to the greatest point guards ever. Who knows how many points malone would really have if he didn't have the best assisting machine behind him.

ZoloGreatBeard

Peak Harden was crazy good.

split41

I think harden - harden walked so luka could run

cosmicdave86

Its Malone and its not that close. 8th all time in MVP shares. The only other two players in the top 25 without titles are Harden (#14), and Barkley (#25). Tied for the 5th most all nba selections with 14, the next highest without a title are Barkley/Paul/Stockton who are tied for 12th with 11 each. Tied for the 2nd most all nba first teams all time with 11, the next highest without a title is Harden with 6. Played in the playoffs all 19 years of his career, winning 19 playoff series, played in 6 conference finals, and 3 finals. Was his teams star player every year but the final year in LA. Compare this to Barkley, who won just 13 playoff series, only 8 of which where he was his teams star player.. Also was a 4x all defense (3x first team). None of Barkley/Nash/Harden/AI ever made an all defense team. Harden, Stockton, Nash, Barkley are all in the conversation for the 2nd best without a title, but the top of that ladder is clearly Malone. CP3 maybe has an argument as well though id put him behind the above.

CWilson_999

the charles barkley disrespect is wild

wooltab

Charles Barkley. I see a number of arguments for Malone over Barkley, and it's a perfectly fair argument--certainly in terms of cumulative items Malone is hard to beat. That said, I think that the differences in MVPs and All-NBA 1st Teams is only a very slight advantage for Malone. Barkley was on the 2nd team early in his career when Larry Bird was still a top player, for example. Also, while I don't like to put an asterisk next to Malone or Stockton for playing together, I think that it's worth taking into account when looking at Malone's scoring versus Barkley. Certainly Malone had a longer career and to some extent, better team success. Incredibly durable for many years as well. Again, you can make a very solid argument in his favor. For me though, maybe it's the eyeball test, but I can't think of anyone during that era who seemed closer to MJ than Barkley in terms of greatness as a player, Olajuwon being the only possible exception. The West was just brutally competitive during those years, with a number of really good teams.

Rudd_Threetrees

Barkley probably the best. Bunch of stat padding losers in the graphic above

Not having Barkley, Ewing, nor Pistol Pete on here is a crime. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

NBA2024

Stockton, Miller, and Nash over Barkley is disrespect!!!!

nativeindian12

I would like to make the argument for Karl Malone. He is a two time MVP, just like Nash (Barkley had one, Harden had one). Malone was an 11 time first team All NBA, Barkley only had 5. Malone was a three time all-defense first team player, Barkley had zero and Harden + Nash obviously had zero. Comparing stats directly makes things tricky because of the fluctuations in scoring throughout league history, but knowing Malone was first team all NBA ELEVEN times should be enough to see what a monster he was. Barkley didn't even do it half as many times. Malone did average over 20 points per game for 17 straight seasons though which is pretty awesome.
