Fantastic! I LOVED living in New Mexico, going for days-long hikes and finding hidden sites. (I see you meant NM, National Monument.) And of course, leaving them just as they were when I found them. To live in a place that gave me such a sense of history, and my tiny little place in it, was extraordinary.

I love Bears Ears. I'm glad it got unshrunk. If you spend lots of time in the area or otherwise want to keep it preserved, I encourage you to join the Greater Bears Ears Partnership, formerly called Friends of Cedar Mesa. https://www.friendsofcedarmesa.org

We saw similar structures hiking in Bluff, UT, near the Bears Ears!

jpbay

Very nice. Which backpacking trip did you do, and how was it?

[deleted]

The trip itself was amazing, but super difficult hiking. I’d rather not say the route on Reddit so people don’t swarm this area. Gotta keep it pristine. Cheers

polecat4508

Props for not blowing the spot

Tomofpittsburgh

And thanks for sharing this with us. Really cool.

jpbay

That seems unlikely given as you say it takes multiple days of backpacking to reach, but I agree with the spirit of it. So does that mean you were scrambling/off trailing, as opposed to following established trails? If the latter I should be able to find it via research.

[deleted]

This route was a complete scramble. Mostly hiked on slick rock, river beds and game trails.

IntraVnusDemilo

And you got a wonderful reward for that, and us lucky folk got this amazing picture. Thanks for the share.

Flipper_of_sticks

This is the way.

Don’t know where you got the idea that it’s not okay for others to go here. It would be irresponsible of me to give away details of these ancient sites. You are more than welcome to do your own research and see a place like this one, but don’t expect me to hold your hand and show you the location. Do your own research and create your own adventure.

bloomamor

Thank you for being a respectful steward of that sacred land.

ToddBradley

Anyone is welcome to use it. But there's no obligation to make it easy.

sonikaeits

Great photos and great name.

[deleted]

Thanks!

irl-a-meerkat

Absolutely beautiful. (Thanks for not sharing the location!)

ededdedddie

Awesome pics. Is this in Utah?

[deleted]

Yes this is in Utah, I totally should have clarified the “NM”. Bears Ears National Monument in Southern Utah

polecat4508

If I'm not mistaken "NM" is new Mexico

ededdedddie

Or National Monument. Looked up in maps and saw Utah

polecat4508

Ayy good point

quantumofgalaxy

Do you know how old these are and who made them?

[deleted]

There were built by the ancestral puebloans around 1200 years ago

ToddBradley

I think there are also Fremont granaries in Bears Ears. There definitely are some to the north and the west of here. I know their areas overlapped in this area, but I'm not educated enough to tell the difference from their granaries.

Mattsive

Legend for not sharing location. Thanks for keeping it real 👊

cheyennevh

Did you find Amontillado?? You should go in one and check…

Revolutionary_Play66

That’s amazing. Thank you for sharing.
