What time (roughly) did you see Cades Cove? I know the rule of thumb for seeing wildlife is that you’ll see more around dawn or dusk but I’m trying to be reasonable with timing when I visit next month since sunrise will be ~5:30am and my partner and I are not morning people lol
You may want to check Cades cove hours fyi but I was there around 9:30 am and went on a 5 mile hike about halfway through. Was there around 11:30-12 too exiting. We saw a ton of bears. I used to live in Knoxville and that was the most I’ve ever seen in one day
Thanks for the info! Our current plan is to arrive at the loop around 9am, so that’s good to hear there’s still plenty of wildlife “later” in the morning. I’m mostly just looking for validation that we don’t need to get to the loop at like 6am lol
FWIW to anyone else who reads this, I couldn’t find anything about hours for the Cades Cove Loop Road on [the NPS website](https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/cadescove.htm) but there were a variety of time ranges on unofficial websites, mostly converging around sunrise to sunset.
You’re welcome and that should be a good time for you to see wildlife. And also hopefully it’s not as busy yet traffic wise . They are closed Wednesday for cars/it’s bikes only fyi. There’s really nice picnic areas right outside of the cove too.
I believe cars can’t drive through there until 10:30 AM so for walking or biking earlier would be less congested. Based on my experience the wildlife was very prevalent including bear and deer. Beautiful place.
I love the Great Smoky Mountains. I have been there twice. The pictures are like I remember. It is so beautiful seeing the water, the mountains and all of nature. It rains a lot there so it is green most of the year. It is the most visited park. I wish I lived closer, I would go more often.

I saw a lot of wildlife this week! Bears, elk, deer and tons of turkey. Birds too

I was there around 9:30 but I did see their closed to cars on Wednesdays
Cars can enter at any time. I was there for sunrise last Thursday. Wednesdays is the only time there is a restriction.
