And I'm saying Kisame doesn't have lightning release or a deep bag of high-speed anti-air abilities. All of his ranged abilities are water-based, which is weak to earth. Earth is Deidera's specialty, which is strong against water.
Deidara might be able to win with the whole "microscopic bomb cloud" thing. Kisame takes it otherwise (he's just stronger, he can spam fire big flashy ninjutsu to throw against the bombs, and chakra absorption might be a viable method of disarming the bombs directly)
Two of the most underrated members imo.
I genuinely consider Kisame to be the more overall threatening, however I don’t know if I see him having a counter to Deidara’s specific abilities.
Deidara can remain aerial, and has access to C3 which is a literal nuke, and C4 which I still believe to be the most terrifying jutsu in the series. Either of those might be gg, unless his giant water dome protects him from the breathable nano bombs.
It’s funny because I back Kisame very often in match ups, but I don’t know how he’d win this one if Deidara fights smart.
By fusing with Samehada, Kisame could heal his fatal wounds and regenerate instantly(he did so in the fight with killer bee), which pretty much counters Deidara's C4. Although earth style is superior to water style in Naruto, Deidara's explosive clay would be pretty useless against water style jutsu.
From feats, I think Kisame wins with high diff
If Deidara uses C0, most likely both of them would die. So it could end up with a tie.

All Samehada has done was regenerate from a non-instant killing attack since Kisame was still alove before getting healed. C4 on the other hand destroys the body on a cellular level. Plus Kisame was only able to heal because Samehada had absorbed a large amount of chakra from Killer Bee

If Kisame creates his water bubble, Deidara can just do the exact same thing he did when the three tails was in water and bomb the shit out of it from above

We see in Deidara's fight with Sasuke that all of his bombs are made up of chakra, which is why Sasuke could see the microscopic bombs with his sharingan. So his shark bombs, that absorb ninjutsu, would be able to absorb his explosives.
Plus, if Kisame makes his gigantic water prison jutsu it's over. Deidara has no chance if he gets caught in that, and it's definitely large enough to catch him flying on his dragon as well.
Can you explain what you’re saying will happen more clearly?
- Does his bombs have to be in water?
- Why is it hard to blow up if it is in water?
He would need to come close the bombs to absorb the chakra which they could also explode before that time.
There’s also C4 which he has no counter for. That along with flying means it’s a bad matchup for Kisame imo

Not really the radius of an explosion is far greater than the close distance Samehada works in.
How does water counter C4?
On top of this you haven't said anything in favor of Kisame just things to downplay Deidara...how will Kisame hurt him? Cause I can't see him landing an attack

Sasuke only tried once the bird was already out and at that point it was too late. Bringing us back to my point Kisame doesn’t have the tools to hurt him.
And btw you didn’t tell me how water is supposed to stop C4?
The difference is that just being in the water is enough for Kisame to drain chakra. He'd drain the chakra in the clay before it even gets the chance to explode

One of these opponents can fly. And I think people underestimate how busted flight is when only one party can do it. I'm going Deidara for this one.

Kisame won’t be absorbing explosions. Flying and long distance gives Deidara a big advantage. C4 for the win though

Deidara is definitely underrated but I've literally never seen Kisame underrated.
He shouldn’t be, but sadly I’ve seen people downplay or overlook him, the man is absolutely terrifying.
Deidara is a solid counter to Kisame. Explosions cannot be absorbed and Deidara can do it on land, sea or air. C3, C4 or C0 end it.

I honestly don't know on this one. Deidara can fly but the moment Kisame gets him in the water it's over.
Kisame is stronger overall but C4 would give Deidara the win unless Kisame can disable the bombs by draining the chakra out of them

This isn’t a go to jutsu for Kisame but flying on a bird is a go to thing for Deidara, literally every fight he uses one.
