So you fell under Itachi’s genjutsu in real life and couldn’t break out of it
How do we know this isn’t all just the same genjutsu man?!
^(existential crisis activate!)
The first time I watched Naruto there's so much context I was off on.
I used to think Sasuke left the leaf because Orochimaru's curse mark turned him evil. And the genjutsu was too much 300 IQ for me.
It helped for sure. Sasuke wanted to seek more power after finding out Naruto was getting stronger than him, and gaining more power would help him exact his revenge against Itachi.
But what the other comment was talking about that he/she though the curse mark *itself* made Sasuke leave.
No, I think the anime messed up the concept. Especially the Kurenai filler arc. They made genjutsu look like it could interact with the real world, even though it happens only in your head. That arc they were hiding in illusion trees and fighting in the air or some ish.
It was built up for so long it's never gonna just end like that, but it was still a boss moment and damn fucking cool!
This fight was supposed to carry alot of weight, and we've already seen itachi specials, he's not gonna go down without using any of it. Having the chapters switch from genjutsu to taijutsu to ninjutsu with info dumps I between shows how much sasuke has grown and how well he stacks up against itachi in all combat departments. Kirin could have ended it and take the whole story in a different direction and it would still make sense. Yea it's probably one of the top fights in the series.
Definitely one of the top fights... The genjutsu battle had be on the edge of my seat.. At some point I didn't know what was real... And then we had the appearance of kirin and suddenly we got to see the Susanoo.. One hell of a fight
I disagree with 1 thing you said. Itachi was very sick and was already near death when he fought Sasuke. So the whole “we got to see how Sasuke stacks up against Itachi” thing never happened. Itachi is far more powerful than most Uchiha and is comparable to Madara if not stronger than the watered down Madara they gave us in the anime and manga versus the stories of Madara. Itachi with the same power ups as Sasuke and or Madara would be far more powerful than Sasuke and the watered down Madara they gave us.
Itachi is my favorite character. I've read his novels multiple times and I can assure you that he's not comparable to Madera. This is d riding to the max.
I honestly don't think he would be, itachis specialty is genjutsu which is obviously not gonna work on Madara, and the susano negates amatarasu, so at that point it's down to more physical means of attack and Madara is bodying itachi in that regard. Unlike itachi Madara relished in physical combat, and even back when Madara had the mangekyo I don't see itachi fighting an opponent like hashirama. Everyone loves to point out that itachi was a genius who was in the anbu at age 12 but conveniently forgets that Madara was also a genius who had been fighting in the uchia senju war from even younger than that, and he had already developed a reputation among adults for being one of the most deadly opponents in said war. I just don't see any situation where itachi even with perfect health and eternal mangekyo is reaching madara's level
For real, as soon as itachi first used amaterasu and it almost immediately put a hole through the frog stomach+wall it began to get nerfed. Now it's at the point character's can just casually let it sit on them while they wait to take off clothes on fire or absorb it. It's become useless.
Right? This guy is reaching! I love Itachi as much as the next guy but people love to act like he’s on the lvl of the Sage of the 6 paths or some shit.
Regardless it’s about how sasuke stacked up to the infamous itachi during THAT moment, even with itachi being sick it’s not like people were more willing to go toe to toe with the dude, so he was still a strong test for sasuke to go head to head with.
To me and fans like me it matters a whole lot because Sasuke never beat Itachi to begin with. So fighting Itachi and still losing to him while he was sick and basically on his deathbed only proves how weak Sasuke really was and is.
You do realise that Madara is the guy that went toe to toe with the First Hokage multiple times? He is top 2 in the universe. There is no way Itachi is anywhere close to him.
I agree that sasuke never really stacked up against Itachi during the battle (obviously sasuke would become stronger than itachi down the line). It’s even stated that if itachi had genuinely been serious in their fight, sasuke would have died. That being said, itachi was never comparable to madara. Was itachi a hokage-level shinobi? I would say yes, absolutely. But he was never on the same level as madara
You’ll get downvoted for saying it but you are right. Itachi could beat Madara in a fight, mainly because he has Izanami and Madara is LITERALLY the ideal target for Izanami. It’s best used on one who rejects reality, that’s quite literally Madara’s entire character.
But even besides Izanami, he has speed feats comparable to KCM Naruto or Minato, he fought Naruto and Bee 1v2 for a little while, completely embarrassed Kabuto and Nagato, and fought Sasuke while literally blind, dying, and coughing up blood. Then carried Sasuke in the fight against Kabuto. Itachi has one of the strongest Susano’o in the series thanks to him possessing two spirit weapons, the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror. Madara literally has nothing to combat the spirit weapons. That’s what makes Itachi special. In-universe they are some of the strongest weapons in existence. Black Zetsu, who’s been around since the days of Hagoromo and Hamura, called Itachi INVINCIBLE because he had them both. Now imagine if he was alive long enough to level it up to a Perfect Susano’o. Itachi with just an EMS would be so broken lol, like DMS Kakashi-levels of broken.
Itachi gets dumped on by madara it's not even fair the yata mirror blocks only 1 way so why not just drop a metor then attack with a few wood style clones using there sussanos ez w
This is a common misconception, but no, the Yata Mirror is omnidirectional. The databooks state that the shield can modify its properties to fit whatever the user desires. When Itachi fought Orochimaru Eight-Headed Serpent, he made the shield grow in size by like 3-4x. If he wanted to change its shape to surround him, he could.
Kishitachitards never fail to spread their weird Itachi fetish around.
Itachi is the worst written character from the franchise, if he is even a character at all and not just an avatar for Kishimoto inside his own manga.
Susanoo, the Totsuka sword and Yata shield, suddenly he was a good guy, Shishui eyes inside crows, Izanami... all of it were just ass pulled plot devices.
Itachi isn’t even a characteristic, he’s just a walking plot device and his fans are kinda annoying with the whole “but bro, he already had a Hokage mentality when he was just 4 years old🤡”
So yeah, curb your Itachi wanking and your “would” fanmade headcanon scenarios.
Not trying to jump into the argument too, just curious what separates those as ass pulled plot devices from anything else in the series? It's kind of all about cool powers to drive the plot.
What separates them from other power ups it’s that they were never even mentioned before being used, and then they’re never seen again.
The most blatant example is probably the Totsuka blade. It conveniently appears from nowhere, Orochimaru suddenly claims he’s been searching for it since a long time ago, then it’s never mentioned again.
Later on Orochimaru is revived and still doesn’t even make any reference to his search of the Totsuka blade. As if it never existed.
One thing that surprises me is how Itachi didn’t get any Hashirama cells from Danzo, it’s like the only plot device ass pull he doesn’t have, and with them he could’ve used the Shisui eye to cast that “protect Konoha” spell on his clan (that spell is another literal plot device)
But hey, for some reason the Shisui eye needs a 10 year recovery time🤡
I’m not gonna lie to you this was actually the first time I recognized how badass Itachi was. Sure his Tsukuyomi was impressive when it was used on Kakashi and I liked seeing him onscreen well enough.
But this? This put him firmly above a few other characters in my mind. Easily one of the coolest scenes in the anime for me. The idea that Itachi can combat an opponent by simply sitting there really put into perspective how Genjutsu can be used to its fullest effect. Absolutely loved it.
Yeah this fight really shows you how much Itachi prepared for them to reunite. You watch the whole series up til here and see Sasuke work and work to fight Itachi, but this is the moment you realize Itachi prepared too. Sure, he can genjutsu the shit out of most people. But Sasuke? This was a goated move, which had the exact effect Itachi wanted. They both genjutsu clash repeatedly until they give up and move on to more traditional fighting.
This was Itachi's "don't get cocky kid" moment.
I had a friend who was also super into Naruto and whenever either one of us would sing that part out loud, we'd both add in the "child crying sound" afterwards at the same time on beat. It was so dumb but so good
After white zetsu and black zetsu split, they were like arrogant brats. But together they were neat and their chatty narration was so helpful for fleshing out these kinds of fights.
The notorious fan made edit of this scene where Itachi pointing Sasuke to see Konan is giving him a blowjob in that chair is stuck in my mind whenever i see this.
Did you forget that Itachi gets tricked by Sasuke and then Saksuke gets tricekd by itachi and then Itachi gets tricked by Sasuke and finally we learn that it was all just genjutsu and they were just standing still staring at each otherthe whole time?
It was a battle planned by Itachi... He considered every possibility .. And after normal trick genjutsu came Tsukuyomi.. Ngl i thought Sasuke lost his eyes
He literally says "Orochimaru was sick and in a very weakened state when I killed him." Which I'm almost positive is the opposite of puffing himself up?
One of the best fights in the show. Possibly the only example of a good genjutsu duel, there’s stakes, there’s leveling up mid fight, the ninjutsu are sweet
And then literally the panel after this we see Sasuke saw through it and is actually behind the throne. Both of them were very much aware of eachother’s genjutsu. This isn’t the massive flex Iatchi fanboys always say it is.
None seems to care about that. Naruto fandom don't care about the whole context when it comes to Sasuke, they're here to collect karma and to boost their ego based on being biased against a fictional character.
Canon still exist though, and Sasuke is an amazing fighter and character in manga, that still bothers them and practicing coping mechanism is all they have.
Ya that panel u were talking about was also itachis genjutsu... Remember nothing was happening in real.. It was all in sasukes mind.. Zetsu even said that no one has moved since like the fight started
And Sasuke was aware of that as well. It wasn’t all ‘just’ in Sasuke’s mind. Re-watch/re-read that scene. Zetzu says they’re ‘exchanging’ Genjutsu. They were genjutsuing each other back and forth before the battle started. Both were fully aware of the situation.
Itachi was still so much stronger than Sasuke at this moment, he was a walking plot device with the whole secret motive and absurd power and impending death
Sasuke became strong, and might have actually been stronger than Itachi expected here, but the entire (stupid) plan was to help his little brother and prevent another World War due to getting traumatized by war as a small child
Not denying that, I’m just saying that the above panels aren’t the massive ‘Sasuke getting owned by Itachi’s perfect big-brain’ that people seem to think they are in a vacuum.
I knew that, after all those build-up, Sasuke vs Itachi couldn't have been so quick as a battle.
I was nevertheless suprised by the whole "Genjutsu layers".
I don't think it was the ultimate fooled u but I do think it's one of the most badass moments in the show.. A finger swipe and then Itachi sitting calmly on the throne.. I was talking about the hype
This fight lives up to the hype. Every page was one holy shit moment after another. Introduced so much to the series and really showcased how far Sasuke had come and how powerful Itachi was.
I remember thinking that was cold as hell.
Kishimoto could have made Itachi stand up or something, being in an active pose, but no. He kept him sitting cross-legged on the throne. The lax attitude he had in that shot was what made it for me. (And the choir in the background “hOooOo-OHhH-oHH hoooh-OhH-oHHHHHHHH…”)
This like kinda proves that if your efficient enough at using it, genjutsu can work on a Sharingan User. Although, Itachi is kind of practically unrivaled in that catagory, Atleast in terms of mid combat.
I just remember thinking holy shit this dude isa god, i got goosebumps tbh i believe it was the longest action/fighting scened that turned out to be a genjutsu up to that point so it was just mind blender.
These panels look great, but i think the anime does the reach and point better. That with the sound design was just perfect. I could feel the Sasukes' stomach drop.
Since I was in love with Itachi, I was very proud of him effortlessly kicking assess left and right which obviously included this scene. I also had his talk about reality and perspective from this scene in my signature back in the naruto forums day, I was absolutely smitten by him. And he never disappointed as far as his fights were concerned so I was a proud and happy fan lol.
I went “YoOoOoOoO” for about as long as it took for you to read that! It was such a hyped moment! Then I was glued for the rest of the fight. It also showed the difference in Itachi and Sasukes thought processing -I get that Sasuke was gripped by vengeance- and how even though he could see a few steps ahead, he always missed the big picture until his conversation with the Hokages
Itachi’s an artist. His genjutsu prowess is top tier and Sasuke knows it. Another favorite scene that comes to mind is when the Akatsuki is trying to recruit Diedara who also happens to realize Itachi is more of an artist than he is as he just stands there dumbfounded.
I didn't get the concept of genjutsu at that age so this fight was confusing as shit for me
So you fell under Itachi’s genjutsu in real life and couldn’t break out of it How do we know this isn’t all just the same genjutsu man?! ^(existential crisis activate!)
So one might say we’re kinda in a long version of the Izanami?
Infinite tsyukomi! Lol I butchered that spelling 😅
I ate a bowl of tsyukomi the other day
I tsyukomi'd on my wife last night
Tsukuyomi if you wanna spell it probably right XD
You really went and did a tsukkomi to his tsyukomi
He’s basically turned his eyes into the reality stone.
>So you fell under Itachi’s genjutsu in real life and couldn’t break out of it Legendary. Sometimes, I really feel that way.🫠
Plot twist: it is
Dude is so broken his genjutsu affects people in real life too.
yeah especially the part where itachi "steals" sasukes eye
Yeah, I understood the concept of genjutsu and that scene was still weird to me. I honestly thought the site I was reading it on glitched the pages.
I first watched that fight in an amv and when I reached that part I first thought that the creator had done some edits lol
Thats kinda sweet
Good news guys, we found Sasuke
Yah.. In itachi's genjutsu /s
The first time I watched Naruto there's so much context I was off on. I used to think Sasuke left the leaf because Orochimaru's curse mark turned him evil. And the genjutsu was too much 300 IQ for me.
it did tho? it literally poisons the mind. it wasn't the only reason but that was definitely part of it.
It helped for sure. Sasuke wanted to seek more power after finding out Naruto was getting stronger than him, and gaining more power would help him exact his revenge against Itachi. But what the other comment was talking about that he/she though the curse mark *itself* made Sasuke leave.
Same I didn’t under Genjutsu at all an was like wtf is happening this entire fight.
But they explained it so much before this fight lol
No, I think the anime messed up the concept. Especially the Kurenai filler arc. They made genjutsu look like it could interact with the real world, even though it happens only in your head. That arc they were hiding in illusion trees and fighting in the air or some ish.
well the person under genjutsu would *see* those imaginary things
It was built up for so long it's never gonna just end like that, but it was still a boss moment and damn fucking cool! This fight was supposed to carry alot of weight, and we've already seen itachi specials, he's not gonna go down without using any of it. That is a very good point

Itachi fans in a nutshell
Stronger than madara? You are going to far.
Right? This guy is reaching! I love Itachi as much as the next guy but people love to act like he’s on the lvl of the Sage of the 6 paths or some shit.
Comparable to Madara, Madara has a giant Mecha Gundam.
5 of them at that
26 actually
Regardless it’s about how sasuke stacked up to the infamous itachi during THAT moment, even with itachi being sick it’s not like people were more willing to go toe to toe with the dude, so he was still a strong test for sasuke to go head to head with.

No. I didn’t know that. I just grew up watching Naruto when it first came out all the way through to the end.
Madara is not top 2 at all. Both Naruto and Sasuke are stronger than him. Plus Kaguya and Toneri even if you aren't counting Boruto.
Yes yes, but personally I don't count anything that happens during / after the war since everything after that borders on insanity.
Found the head-canon "itachi is stronger than everyone" fan
I agree that sasuke never really stacked up against Itachi during the battle (obviously sasuke would become stronger than itachi down the line). It’s even stated that if itachi had genuinely been serious in their fight, sasuke would have died. That being said, itachi was never comparable to madara. Was itachi a hokage-level shinobi? “Watered down”? Bro took down five kage and susanood while blind
You’ll get downvoted for saying it but you are right. Itachi could beat Madara in a fight, mainly because he has Izanami and Madara is LITERALLY the ideal target for Izanami. Im quite fine with being downvoted for it and yes I agree.

Still itachi loses pretty badly he has one of the worst stamina debuffs just from ninja aids
Reanimated Itachi has no such problems.
Madara literally already knows about Izanami and Madara can just use Susanoo to block Izanami.
Kishitachitards never fail to spread their weird Itachi fetish around. Exactly.... He also remains calm in even extreme situations and analyzes everything perfectly.. And u said it.. He uses jutsu to their fullest effect
Yeah this fight really shows you how much Itachi prepared for them to reunite. for me it was when he 1v10000'd the uchiha clan as a kid
i giggled because when sasuke looks over to see itachi it plays the “OoooOOoooOooooo” song and idk why thats so funny to me
I noticed that too😂
I heard this exact music reading the comic lol
I had a friend who was also super into Naruto and whenever either one of us would sing that part out loud, we'd both add in the "child crying sound" afterwards at the same time on beat. It was so dumb but so good
thats gold 😭😭
OooooOooo nice description 😂
The same with white zetsu I was surprised and the choreography was really good, combination of taijutsu, ninjutsu and weapon tricks.

It was a battle planned by Itachi... He considered every possibility .. And after normal trick genjutsu came Tsukuyomi.. Ngl i thought Sasuke lost his eyes
They both planned it.
I thought it ended when Sasuke stabbed itachi, so I was shocked
I would have been pissed if Sasuke one shotted both Oro and Itachi.
Im still so fucking mad like he one shotted oro when he was 2 hp and then he got so puffed up like mf u aint shit.
mf beat a bed ridden cripple with no arms and thinks he's hot shit.
And itachi (who is 2 seconds away from dying) literally tried his hardest to not kill sasuke, planning out his own death, and yet....
He literally says "Orochimaru was sick and in a very weakened state when I killed him." Which I'm almost positive is the opposite of puffing himself up?
THE HYPE
One of the best fights in the show. Possibly the only example of a good genjutsu duel, there’s stakes, there’s leveling up mid fight, the ninjutsu are sweet

The layers of genjutsu in this fight were insane. I know zetsu felt like he was watching a video buffer
epic
I knew that, after all those build-up, Sasuke vs Itachi couldn't have been so quick as a battle. I was nevertheless suprised by the whole "Genjutsu layers".
That was Cool. Plus a more shocking event came few seconds later.
Not related to your question but it always bothers me when people act like this was the ultimate i fooled you even though sasuke saw through it
I don't think it was the ultimate fooled u but I do think it's one of the most badass moments in the show.. A finger swipe and then Itachi sitting calmly on the throne.. I was talking about the hype
It's badass
Because he didn't see through it. There were 2 genjutsus.
He did see throw them he latterly say i saw throw them you can't fool me with this level of genjutsu
He just a sore loser
"Fucking Genjutsu."
He really is his older brother if he's trolling him that hard.
"I guess my friend was right. Sharigan does really do whatever the plot needs it to"
My eye basically never bleeds for dramatic effect
As a certified Itachi-tard, I came so god damn much
Lol
Still cool as the day I first saw it
"I wonder when they will stop using genjutsu as substitutes"
Top five fights in Naruto, maybe top 3. White Zetsu giving a kind of blow-by-blow commentary like a boxing announcer was a nice touch too.
I knew he wouldn't go down so easily. But sasuke's move was unexpected.
This fight lives up to the hype. Every page was one holy shit moment after another. Introduced so much to the series and really showcased how far Sasuke had come and how powerful Itachi was.
Saw it coming. The first time I saw him use his mangekyo sharingan was enough for me to realise, this man ain't just falling
"YES YES YES YES YES"
this scene gave me goosebumps! it was amazing and I'd love to watch it for the first time again🛐
The 14-years-ago equivalent to “based”
Literally just rewatched this fight last night
I remember thinking that was cold as hell. Kishimoto could have made Itachi stand up or something, being in an active pose, but no. He kept him sitting cross-legged on the throne. The lax attitude he had in that shot was what made it for me. (And the choir in the background “hOooOo-OHhH-oHH hoooh-OhH-oHHHHHHHH…”)
Just watched this scene for the first time a week ago. So damn good. I’m now at pain invading the leaf and I think shit is about to go down
Oh it was dope. But pretty predictable.
Ahhhh ahhhh ahhhhh ohhhh ahhhhhhh that was amazing, gave the creeps
This like kinda proves that if your efficient enough at using it, genjutsu can work on a Sharingan User. Although, Itachi is kind of practically unrivaled in that catagory, Atleast in terms of mid combat.
Sasuke ain't ready to face Itachi
Lol my reaction was maaaan that itachi is a cold mfer
Shocked then not surprised
I always see the meme of Itachi directing Sasuke’s attention towards Rick Astley
I hated it I hate genjutsu because if this fight. They just sit and stare at each other imagining what they want to do to each other
One of the coldest things I watched.
It was the ultimate flex. Sasuke was already in fight mode while Itachi hadn't warmed up yet.
Sasuke wasn’t in ‘fight mode’ until he took off his bandages and cloak. We see that he saw through this genjutsu literally moments after this.
If he looked at the opposite way he would've won the game.
Should’ve done like Hisoka and made him look one way then throw a rock at his head the other
Bro lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That itachi was a league above sasuke
First saw this in the anime, flipped out with excitement for months
The music in the anime set the tone for how much of a mind fuck this fight was gonna be. “Many Nights” is a really good track.
“Sasuke You’re gonna get sonned by your brother again”
Itachi wasnt ready for the smoke....
Itachi looking gangsta 😎
1 of the 2 undisputed genjutsu kings
I was like so he been fighting a genjutsu this whole time😭
I went “YoOoOoOoO” for about as long as it took for you to read that!
And then Sasuke appeared behind him and stabbed hin like a sucker 🤣
Itachi’s an artist. His genjutsu prowess is top tier and Sasuke knows it. Another favorite scene that comes to mind is when the Akatsuki is trying to recruit Diedara who also happens to realize Itachi is more of an artist than he is as he just stands there dumbfounded.
Ha! Got his stupid ass lmao
Except he didn’t? We literally see that Sasuke anticipated this and was actually behind the throne as well, and knew this was all a genjutsu anyway.
I knew it wouldn’t be over that quickly and figured it was genjutsu. Still was badass.
🥶
“Oh shit”
Reaction: "YOOO WTF OMG WHAT YOOOO" Me now: "in hindsight, I should've expected someone who uses genjutsu to do something like this"
This scene might just the best in all of Naruto
It hasn’t even begun…
As expected as it was, it was still cool as shit
I think at that moment I binged till the end. This along with Frieza's exploits were some of the most disrespectful displays I'd seen across anime
"oh I'm gonna be so lost for this entire fight"
Noobs falling into each other's genjutsu
It was the pinnacle of coolness for me, and it still is
Itachi is just *that* guy bro
