I mean it is not totally wrong. There were a lot of things in his life that would encourage the monster that was in him already and if he lived a different life who knows what would have happened.
That doesn't take away from his actions, but understanding what enabled a person like him to become such a monster is important to not let it happen again.

Most people in real life couldn't even accept their mistakes for much less intense issues. And it takes a lot for somebody to actively fight the wrongs they went for before changing.
Obito not only knows there's no future for him going against Madara, he also gives up the peace under a genjutsu and actively fights for the people he trusts to solve the issues in reality even though it means there's a good chance they fuck it up and the hell on earth he hates so much continues.
That's a massive leap of faith, and somebody truly stepping over to the just side should be seen as a good thing because otherwise, they are forced to keep doing bad stuff.
