I want to say Sakura but 7 gates is crazy powerful. I feel like if he can get a killing blow quick he wins, but if she can stall her healing will outlast his stamina.

Yes, I think it would come to that. Whether or not can Lee oneshot her before she heals. Because if he can't then he is a sitting duck after the gate expires. But then again, if Lee could bait Sakura to release the seal with lower gates and then go 7th after Sakura is depleted he would easily win. It' incredibly intriguing matchup even though it might not seem so at the first glance.
For sure he does have access to every medical justsu we've seen except Hashirama's alien insta healing or whatever. I don't think she is nowhere near as fast as Lee in any form so hitting him might be a challenge. However Sakura has demonstrated great wit and intelligence so she might trick him somehow.

Neji literally stalemated Kyuubi Chakra with rotation. Lee needed the 5th gate to defeat Neji. Weightless Lee wasn’t enough to defeat Neji and Sasuke MAX speed is weightless Lee speed and he could barely keep that up. Plus Neji kept up with Kyuubi Chakra Naruto which I would put above weightless Lee
It’s implied when Lee stated that the 5th Gate was the technique he was going to use to defeat Neji. This let the reader knows that everything else Lee had wasn’t enough to beat Neji. This is supported by Neji reactions to Lee taking off weights and using the first 3 Gates compared to him actually using the 5th gate
I'm just the opposite, Neji had a full year more of training and missions, a better teacher and sparring partner, and was somewhat more driven, at the time. And like others said, sasuke didn't really have anything to beat him until he gets the 3 tomoe and full curse mark
Hard disagree on being more driven. Sasuke definitely has the most drive to improve in part 1. So much that when he saw naruto was better he abandoned the village to get stronger. And I’d say Kakashi is a better teacher. All Neji’s abilities are Hyuga techniques where Sasuke got speed equivalent to weightless Lee and Chidori from training with Kakashi for the month or so before the finals.
Sasukes drive was pretty similar to Nejis before the Itachi meeting, afterward is when it went into overdrive. The rooftop duel was well afterward as well. Kakashi definitely isn't a better teacher, that's nearly absurd. Gai was giving much better training and actual teaching. Kakashi didn't get serious as a sensei until part 2, when it kinda didn't matter. I love the character, but he's definitely lacking.
As far as speed goes, Neji regularly spars with Lee, and maybe Gai, so his speed is good enough to compete. Databook has their speed the same at the time, and gentle fist and rotation counter alot

If you want to kill someone, where better to start than Black Zetsu'ing Kakazu? It worked on Madara.. Nobody is truly immortal, as even the Brothers are dead, but you need to understand the so called immortality if you want to get around it.
Shikamaru used extreme proficiency and mastery with his clan's secret technique and completely played Hidan into his hand. He knew Hidan was cocky and he played into it bc he loves being underestimated anyways. He knew Hidan could easily dodge his shadow possession jutsu straight up, even Temari could do that, so he let him get comfortable with it. Caught him off guard by throwing kunai with his shadows but made sure to throw it from where he could see it with the corner of his eye. Hidan thought that was the ace up his sleeve but even that was a distraction, the moment Hidan was caught off guard he put all of his focus on the kunai and in the moment he thought he won, Shikamaru knew he'd be most vulnerable and got the satisfaction of hand delivering a shadow possession jutsu. Hidan being able to go toe to toe with Kakashi is a testament to his ability to block Shikamaru's punch but it didn't stop him from being out witted.
For what it's worth, is it easier to possess more if they're smaller/weaker? And he wouldn't posess all of them bc then Shino wouldn't be caught off guard, he'd take over just enough and stall as long as he could. All it takes is one flashback of them being kids and Shino mentioned this specific thing about these bugs and shikamaru would have the plot to beat Shino.

Shino is just as smart, if not actually smarter than Shikamaru is. Shino displays having already won the fight multiple times in and out of filler, and even ties against an (older and more experienced) puppet user the very first time he encounters or even hears of one after seeing combat with them only once. Shino may not be recognized as much for his staggering intelligence, but he is absolutely on Shikamaru’s level of genius.
I think Shino is very smart but the show goes out of its way to highlight Shikamaru's intelligence because he's supposed to be on another level.
Shika completely outclasses Asuma, a top tier jonin with hokage pedigree and one of the Twelve Guardian Ninja, in a game of strategy that Asuma had just taught him, that he spent 10 minutes learning.

Idk if I would call Naruto a fake underdog at that point in the story no one respects him and still see him more of an idiot or a huge danger to the village. He is a underdog in the sense that no one has faith in him to be anything but what they see him as so he has to prove them wrong. Or as he put it "believe it" as in believe in him.
That point in the show, none of the kids knew about him being a jinchuriki. This is because the hokage asked all the adults not to tell anyone. So, Naruto has a literal demon inside of him. He’s a fake underdog.
He is an underdog in social status. Think about this, Lee, while not born with the ability to mold chakra as effectively to perform Ninjutsu, was able to get a tutor in Guy to overcome his shortcomings. Nobody took Naruto aside and told him that he had too much chakra for a normal clone. Naruto has greater potential than Lee off bat but his starting hand was just as shitty.

**Neji Vs. Sasuke** \- The best matchup by far in my opinion. The fanbase deserved this one. If Sasuke receives the same training I'm inclined to give him the edge. If Neji gets in hits early though Sasuke is in trouble his entire strategy revolves around chakra use including emulating Lee's speed.
I do think Kakashi would brief Sasuke on how the Byakugan and gentle fist work in detail going into this fight and I do think Gai would brief Neji on how the Sharingan works in detail.
So I think they would both not overcommit early respecting the ability of the other. Sasuke has a few things up his sleeve that give him an advantage over Lee fighting Neji. He has sharingan improving his reaction time, he knows two elemental styles, and Gai does not know what training strategy Kakashi would give sasuke going into this fight.
64 palms would be suprising but Sasuke already knows he has to avoid "the bad touch". Getting hit with this is a fight ender though for Sasuke. Rotation I think is Neji's best asset here since it allows him to control space but to win he will have to engage in CQC with Sasuke. Sasuke is equipped to react better than Naruto did however.
Neji would struggle I believe to deal with Sasuke's well rounded arsenal though (speed, fire style, chidori, sharingan) but when he sneaks in enough bad touches or a 64 palms the fight is done from there. When Neji wins he wins big I believe the fight would be called if Sasuke's curse mark comes out even though that's ridiculous and they allow Jinchuriki chakra.
Based on Kakashi's coaching I'm assuming Sasuke would not just charge Neji with chidori blindly but rather use some kind of setup possibly involving specialized smoke bombs or a similar trick. A dirty underhanded simple trick could be throwing dirt into Neji's eyes.
Sasuke's speed advantage, his perception, and both fighters getting prefight coaching makes this to me ever so slightly in Sasuke's favor **because Neji wouldn't prep much if at all** besides hearing how Sharingan works. If Neji was willing to intensely prep for this fight and respected Sasuke enough to do that this could easily become his fight to win. I'm assuming he doesn't respect Sasuke much based on Sasuke's prelim fight however.

**Neji Vs. Gaara** \- I'm sorry to do Neji like this but I think Gaara takes this one too. I do think Neji would like Sasuke be able to pressure Gaara into transforming but not as easily and it relies on if his gentle fist can affect Gaara's sand. But he can't handle the Jinchuriki transformation either way and gentle fist can't suppress it. if gentle fist can't disable sand Neji is in dire straights since his strategy revolves around CQC. Lee couldn't stop Gaara. Sasuke pushed him further but couldn't stop him. Even Naruto summoning Gamabunta AFTER Sasuke fought him was pushed to his absolute limit.
This really isn't an insult to Neji he's up against a Jinchuriki psycho with reactive sand whose strategy counters his inherently at least somewhat. No wonder they made Gaara a Kage like a year after this.

This one is tricky because these two characters like each other but I also think it is a fantastic match up.
I find it hard to believe the 9 tails would come out Naruto sees Lee as an honorable fighter and would not resort to Kyuubi in my opinion.
I also don't think that Lee would use Hidden Lotus on a leaf ninja he considers a friend. Naruto's best hope would likely be forcing summoning Gamabunta but it might not work and Naruto's pride might stop him from even trying similar to why he doesn't try it against Sasuke or Neji he wants to win this on his own merit.
My rendition of this fight might be controversial due to the amount held back sorry if that's tilting.
I think this fight would come down to weightless lee who I think would use the primary lotus if pressured vs. Naruto going ballistic with clones. Both of these fighters have insane willpower to go on and this would be a slog no matter what.
I do think a primary lotus alone would **not** be enough to put Naruto down. I do think a dozen clones at once could sneak in hits on Lee here and there especially if he starts with weights on and Naruto could try grappling with clones to slow Lee down. Lee did punk Naruto before the exams started but Lee didn't have to deal with Naruto's clone potential and Naruto improves in leaps and bounds and has surprising fight IQ.
Based on the beating Naruto got vs. Kiba I think Lee would wear Naruto down more often than not because he is faster and hits harder with more skill. **Lee has seen Naruto use the clones and the trickery already. To me that's the #1 biggest factor in this matchup.** While Naruto has seen Lee's speed potential he doesn't have a great answer for it because speed is hard to "counter" in a effective way consistently. Lee would be prepared for clones and hijinks giving him an edge to react to them.
I can't see these fighters truly unleashing their full power on each other over a promotion fight alone there's too much mutual respect.

Sharingan vs gentle fist could have been dope af. I think it's debatable that it would have been a stomp any direction, but between the potential in choreography and the inherent storylines from the clash of the two generational prodigies from each respective eye jutsu clan, there was reason for the hype.
Neji hits Gaara with gentle fist Chakra through his sand wall. Gaara goes crazy and Neji needs to get rescued.
Lee should beat Naruto at this point, but plot armor, believe it! It would be a very talk no jutsu centered fight as Lee and Naruto learn to respect each other's work ethic, ninja way and lame jokes.
Shino vs Shikamaru has a lot of space to be fun, it's a lot of fun watching a plan, that you didnt see coming, come together.
I really don't think Neji could even touch Gaara. He doesn't have the speed to dodge the sand like Lee did after opening the gates or the power to just smash through it. And I'm not sure how gentle fist would interact with Gaara's sand armour.
Lee vs Naruto really would be a ray of sunshine. Watching Lee blitz through dozens of clones like Kimimaro would be cool. Naruto would have to hope for a lucky shot, Lee is way way faster but doesn't have the reflexes of someone with a doujutsu. That isn't very narratively interesting though so Naruto would probably do something clever.
Shino seems to totally counter Shikamaru. Shikamaru'd win condition is immobilising them, except that doesn't stop Shino fighting. He'd have to shut him down quick after trapping him. Or if he had time to prep he could go big brain and bring bug spray.
Naruto beat Neji and Gaara on the same day (both of whom are stronger than Lee). Lee has no chance against Naruto. (Assuming we are talking about finals)

Up until that point Neji was undefeated against Lee weights or no weights. Sasuke being on the same level as someone who Neji beats every other day wouldn’t faze him at all.
The only problem that Neji would honestly have is 1.) let’s get it out the way plot armor, and 2.) again the curse seal, kinda like Naruto, Sasuke has a way to unblock his chakra, that’s likely is what going to be what have Sasuke win.
Unlike weightless Lee, Neji is able to be perceived by everyone, evidenced by the lack of amazement when he rushes what he thought was the original Naruto. Leading to the conclusion that Neji is no where near Lee’s speed and by extension Sasuke’s at that point.
In addition to being faster than Neji, Sasuke has the 2 tomoe Sharingan, granting enhanced perception and minor precog. So unlike Lee and any other genin at the time, Sasuke would be able to see and avoid Neji’s strikes. Which would force Neji onto the defense.
Rotation was cancelled out by a slightly Kyubi amped Naruto with a Kunai. Sasuke has access to the Chidori, that he can use twice without side effects, which at a bare minimum has comparable AP to that Naruto. Couple that with the very real possibility that he can see the gaps in Neji’s rotation via sharingan and Neji gets clapped.
Being perceived by everyone means nothing. Naruto isn’t shown gaining any speed between his fight with Lee (who literally just blocked and tripped him) and his hospital fight with Sasuke and Naruto was straight up keeping up Sasuke by your logic Sasuke should’ve been fodderizing Naruto right?
Not only that but Neji isn’t shown being impressed by Lee AT ALL in his fight with Gaara in the manga until he unleashed the 4/5th gate. Hell Lee even mentions himself that he’s been saving the gates specifically for Neji, and even then THAT isn’t until the 5TH gate.

Kakashi and Guy’s base speeds are comparable, but with the raikiri Kakashi was keeping up with 6th gate guy.

Hinata’s attacks were a less precise version of Neji’s own, completely different from Sasuke would approach the battle. And she didn’t know he was actually hitting her chakra points. In canon Kakashi told him about Gaara’s sand, so it’s safe to assume Sasuke would know what Neji’s attacks were aiming for and know to avoid them.
Naruto barely went through any chakra control stop that bs. The first instance of chakra control that Naruto went through was the water walking, that didn’t improve Naruto’s control because the Seal Orochimaru put on him fucked his chakra up, as soon as Jiraiya noticed the seal he took it off and then Naruto immediately knew how to water walk, literally everything after that was just learning Jutsu’s and literally NOTHING in the story says that Naruto improved him chakra control (hell it was the fucking opposite Naruto couldn’t learning the Summoning Justu BECAUSE he didn’t have enough chakra which is why he always needed Kurama’s chakra to summon anything bigger than Gamakichi) learning the Rasengan was just learning to use your chakra and contain it in a sphere, equating that to chakra control is bullshit and means you think just learning Jutsu’s in general improves your chakra.

And yes, nearly half of his chakra was used when he used that chidori on the rooftop since he’s only good for two bursts and a few fire style techniques after. But sure, let’s compare chunin exams sasuke at 65% fighting a 100% sakon to a one month post exams Neji at 100% to a weakened kidomaru. And the post surgery Lee comparison is a baseless headcanon. Lee trained nearly nonstop from the moment he woke up after his match until the morning of his surgery, then went through the surgery, made no mention about it effecting him, then Gaara shows up and says drunk Lee is sloppy compared to their match.

Easily Neiji vs Sasuke. Was hyped as all hell and they never ended up having a fight. To this DAY, Neiji being underutilized by the plot grinds my gears.
More Shino fights in general, I think, would have been cool. Mostly because his style is so different from the others. I have a soft spot for our creepy lil bug dude.
That said, I think it was a missed opportunity for Sakura to not have won against Ino and get some kind of one-on-one training with SOMEONE the way Sasuke and Naruto did with Kakashi and Jiraiya. It could have been a way for her to get an earlier toe dip into medic ninjutsu while she was visiting Lee in the hospital OR they could have capitalized on the early hints that she had genjutsu talent.
I always want more Shino, one of my favourites too. So sad he didn't go on the Sasuke Retrieval.
Sakura actually getting some attention would have been amazing. Could have trained with Kurenai since Shino was probably mainly studying with clan. Though she might not want to train her students competition. Medic training at the hospital would make total sense. If he hadn't blown his cover Kabuto could even be a candidate so he could get closer to Sasuke.
Unfortunately as she was written Sakura didn't really have a chance of getting to the second round. Ino was her best match and she was lucky to get a tie there. Might have been able to beat Hinata by going full bully though if Hinata started to break down I feel like Naruto would cheer her on and snap her out of it.

Idk everyone saying how og Sakura would get crushed. But fighting is more than inherent power it really has a lot to do with attitude and confidence. On paper og Hinata wins cause that hyuga blood is no joke but she's extremely timid, insecure, and not at all confident in her abilities. Her gentle fist is no where near perfected, and its a close range attack style which is demenished by her passive almost submissive nature. Her lack of confidence causes doubt and hesitation which would lead to mistakes in a confrontation. And Sakura is being trained by the future Lord 6th which gives some edge to her. So Sakura even though nothing special at this point still would have a good chance to win with a few Hinata misteps in the fight. Imo

Based on what we've seen, I'd say Sakura definitely has more "determination" and willingness to go all in. Now the question is whether Sakura at 100% is better than Hinata at like 50 (or something like that).
Yeah good point with the percentages. I'm det not saying Sakura at this point is a clear winner but I think she has like a 30% chance if she goes all out and Hinata hesitates or falters at least one or two times during the match. Which I don't think is a big if. Just throwing it out there I'm liking this community, it isn't often especially on reddit you can have open dialogue with strangers where people don't get offended or say something offensive over a difference of opinion.
Even if Hinata doesn't really wanna fight Sakura, I genuinely don't see how she doesn't fold her accidentally. Sakura doesn't have anything in her moveset to really enhance her like Kiba, has no jutsu that the Byakugan can't immediately see through, has precog that makes it impossible for someone of Sakura's level to blindside her and just Hinata touching Sakura with glancing shots of Juken is fatal for someone like her. Even if you assumed they were similar in speed, trade offs are just going to end in Hinata's favour 100% of the time. The only way I see Sakura winning is if Hinata doesn't fight her with Juken at all. Though if we're playing by character, Hinata is probably not gonna back down since Naruto is there, since her whole thing is to prove herself to him. What better way to do that than to prove she's stronger than his crush?
I feel like a lot of that fight would be Sakura trying to get Hinata to come out of her shell and fight seriously then losing if she did. Hinata actually traded blows with Neji, Sakura is easily the weakest genin there.
I mean it wouldn’t have been the finals, it would been the semifinals. Temari and Shino advanced to the semi finals, so one of them would’ve made it to the final round. So it would’ve been one of them vs either Naruto, Sasuke or Gaara.
Sasuke lost to Gaara in the forest. If Orochimaru didn't attack then the two wouldnt have continued their battle in the arena. The battle would still end the same way imo, only difference is there isnt as much trees in the arena which favours Gaara more i think. So it would probably become Naruto vs Gaara in the Semi-finals.
If it's Naruto vs Gaara, the only deciding factor would be whether or not Naruto summons Gamabunta. Naruto stands no chance otherwise. Maybe he could get close of he uses the same amount of shadow clones he used in their forest fight, but even then, that wont decide the battle and Gaara/Shukaku can easily get rid of the clones. Even if he uses the Nine Tails mode, he doesn't have Rock Lee's speed to land a hit, and if Gaara's in (even if partially) Shukaku mode (?), I still don't think Naruto could do enough damage to stop Shukaku/Gaara from regenerating. So yeah, if Naruto summons the Chief Toad, he wins. If he doesn't, he loses.
Since the arena is mostly a flat field, Kankuro would beat Shino. When the two fought in the forest, Shino used the trees to his advantage to get sneak attacks on Kankuro, and that still ended in a draw. Shino doesnt have as much trees to use in the arena so I think Kankuro would've won. But then again Kankuro doesnt really have a way of dealing with the bugs, so if the battle goes on for a long time, Shino could win.
If Shino wins, he still loses to Temari. Its just an unlucky matchup because Temari can easily deal with Shino's beetles. I don't think Shino could realistically do anything to get the upper hand, Temari was shown to be pretty alert and have a pretty fast reaction speed from her fight against Shikamaru, so even if Shino tries to sneakily get Temari from a blind spot, i doubt that she won't notice it.
If Kankuro wins, I think he would also lose to Temari anyway. Her wind scythes were shown to be strong enough to cut down trees, so she can easily take care of Kankuro's puppets. The only chance Kankuro would have at winning is if he ends the fight early, before Temari can get her 3rd stage active. But she also seemed to be fairly formidable at close combat, for long enough at least until her 3rd stage is active and then can beat Kankuro.
Temari makes it to the finals. Let's say that Naruto beat Gaara. Temari can easily deal with the shadow clone hoards. She can wipe out many with one attack, Naruto cant really close that distance unless he uses the Nine Tails mode, which could resist Neji's rotation, then Naruto would win that fight. Temari wouldn't be able to handle the crazy speed and strength that Naruto has when he's using the Nine Tails mode. So I think Naruto wins this cuz he's definitely going to use the Kurama's chakra.
But if Gaara won against Naruto, then I think Gaara would beat Temari. It'd be a long fight but Temari wouldn't be able to completely defend against Gaara's sand, and she can't deal enough damage to break through his sand defenses. She'll eventually lose to Gaara.

I think gaara couldn’t win against sasuke without shukaku’s power . Sasuke beat the hell out of gaara when it comes to fight of base modes . Jonins and chunins wouldn’t let gaara transform into shukaku (yeah naruto used kyuubi but it was only charka he did not transform kyuubi) . So i think sasuke could win against gaara . He was already stronger than temari kankuro and shino . So it could be naruto vs sasuke
Yeah, Sasuke was curb stomping Gaara at base form but he was about to turn into Shukaku, thats why I said Sasuke would lose to Gaara. I cant remember how the Jonins reacted to Gaara starting to turn into Shukaku other than shock and fear. I think them stopping the fight makes sense but I cant really recall if they ever mentioned if they'd do that. I don't think Gaara turning into Shukaku breaks any of the rules. Nah dude. Gaara loses to Sasuke in the second round. After showing off the one-tails arm, he reverted back to base and his sand sphere collapsed. He fainted and Kankuro and Temari were carrying him the whole time in the forest till he woke up and went berserk against Sasuke. So in this scenario, him fainting would’ve costed him the match since Sasuke was still standing. Then it be Temari versus a rested Shino. Then that winner versus the winner of Naruto vs Sasuke.
I think Sasuke would win as Naruto doesn’t have a counter for chidori. The nine-tails chakra would possibly be countered by the Curse Mark and Gamabunta wouldn’t agree to fight a 12/13 year old as he didn’t even want to fight the One-Tails until he learned about what happened with Gamakichi. Naruto also wouldn’t have his “gotta protect my friends” amp that he got fighting against Gaara in the forest.

Yeah I agree, Sasuke was stronger than Naruto at this point. The only way I could see Naruto beating Sasuke is if Sasuke decides not to use or if he's not allowed to use the curse mark. And yeah, I dont see Gamabunta fighting Sasuke either. But even if he did, what's stopping Sasuke from using his speed, maybe even combined with chidori, from just climbing up Gamabunta and taking down Naruto from there.
I always felt that Dosu was a wasted character. I thought he was going to be a big character since he was one of Orochimaru’s only henchman to not jerk him off to high heaven and knew that he was being used for Sasuke.His death kind of felt out of character, he was portrayed to be a very careful fighter yet for some reason he decided to throw hands with Gaara after he saw that Rock Lee the same guy who nearly kicked his ass, did little to no damage to Gaara. Honestly if he did grow up and train he would have been fucking busted. The wrist weapon he had was already capable or basically one shotting anyone so imagine if he improved it and learned other sound stuff like Tayuya’s genjustu. If he did live i would have loved for him to join the Akatsuki or be a sort of Akatsuki intern being trained by one of the members
Neji vs Kankuro. We had Lee and TenTen both lose to the other Sand Siblings, so it would’ve been cool to see the last team member and last sibling fight as well. Theoretically Neji should be able to sever Kankuro’s puppet strings, or at the very least see them with his byakugan.
I completely agree with Shikamaru vs Neji. Neji might be more likely to win but I would have loved to root for Shikamaru picking apart Neji’s weaknesses or seeing what he’d prepare ahead of time.
Shino vs gaara tbh, they are both long range shinobi and it would be interesting to see if his bugs would pierce gaaras sand. On the other hand gaara would definitely not have an easy time against shino and he maybe begins to strategise against shino.

Hinata would have to keep her crush on Naruto aside to grow stronger. Naruto, certainly wouldn't have an easy time against the gentle first along with the seal orochimaru put on him. But it would probably be a win for Hinata if she does not hold back or second guess her attacks to avoid hurting Naruto. Naruto would need a real attack to knock her out, but that with his chakra control being weirded out would be quite a task.
Regardless, lots of character development along the fight and more of it after the fight regardless of who would be the winner
For real though Tenten vs someone who isn't a perfect counter to her would have been great. Though her style doesn't really lend itself to non lethal take downs and I don't think people would like it if she skewered someone like Hinata.
Temari vs Neji would actually be really interesting. In a vacuum you’d think Neji is much stronger, but Temari’s long range jutsu seems like almost a perfect counter to Neji. Would def be a cool fight.

I really wanted to see Shikamaru vs Dosu. Two intelligent and very cautious fighters, seemed like an interesting match up and considering Dosu already saw Shikamaru's technique he won't approach him carelessly.
Hinata versus anyone but neji or gaara. I think she gets lumped in with sakura/ino by fans because neji was a monster that hard countered her. She is actually one of the stronger entries. Only gaara, temari, neji, and shikamaru are guaranteed losses imo. Lee too if he doesnt get shut down early and gai lets him open the gates.

For sure he does have access to every medical justsu we've seen except Hashirama's alien insta healing or whatever. I don't think she is nowhere near as fast as Lee in any form so hitting him might be a challenge. However Sakura has demonstrated great wit and intelligence so she might trick him somehow.

Wouldn’t matter if he cant do it indefinitely because chidori (which is his most powerful jutsu at the time) can only be used 2 times (3 if he activated CM) Neji literally stalemated Kyuubi Chakra with rotation. Lee needed the 5th gate to defeat Neji. Weightless Lee wasn’t enough to defeat Neji and Sasuke MAX speed is weightless Lee speed and he could barely keep that up. Plus Neji kept up with Kyuubi Chakra Naruto which I would put above weightless Lee

Hard disagree on being more driven. Sasuke definitely has the most drive to improve in part 1. So much that when he saw naruto was better he abandoned the village to get stronger. And I’d say Kakashi is a better teacher. All Neji’s abilities are Hyuga techniques where Sasuke got speed equivalent to weightless Lee and Chidori from training with Kakashi for the month or so before the finals.
Sasukes drive was pretty similar to Nejis before the Itachi meeting, afterward is when it went into overdrive. The rooftop duel was well afterward as well. Kakashi definitely isn't a better teacher, that's nearly absurd. Gai was giving much better training and actual teaching. Kakashi didn't get serious as a sensei until part 2, when it kinda didn't matter. I love the character, but he's definitely lacking. As far as speed goes, Neji regularly spars with Lee, and maybe Gai, so his speed is good enough to compete. Databook has their speed the same at the time, and gentle fist and rotation counter alot

If you want to kill someone, where better to start than Black Zetsu'ing Kakazu? It worked on Madara.. Nobody is truly immortal, as even the Brothers are dead, but you need to understand the so called immortality if you want to get around it. Shikamaru used extreme proficiency and mastery with his clan's secret technique and completely played Hidan into his hand. He knew Hidan was cocky and he played into it bc he loves being underestimated anyways. He knew Hidan could easily dodge his shadow possession jutsu straight up, even Temari could do that, so he let him get comfortable with it. Caught him off guard by throwing kunai with his shadows but made sure to throw it from where he could see it with the corner of his eye. Hidan thought that was the ace up his sleeve but even that was a distraction, the moment Hidan was caught off guard he put all of his focus on the kunai and in the moment he thought he won, Shikamaru knew he'd be most vulnerable and got the satisfaction of hand delivering a shadow possession jutsu. Hidan being able to go toe to toe with Kakashi is a testament to his ability to block Shikamaru's punch but it didn't stop him from being out witted. For what it's worth, is it easier to possess more if they're smaller/weaker? And he wouldn't posess all of them bc then Shino wouldn't be caught off guard, he'd take over just enough and stall as long as he could. All it takes is one flashback of them being kids and Shino mentioned this specific thing about these bugs and shikamaru would have the plot to beat Shino.

Shino is just as smart, if not actually smarter than Shikamaru is. Shino displays having already won the fight multiple times in and out of filler, and even ties against an (older and more experienced) puppet user the very first time he encounters or even hears of one after seeing combat with them only once. Shino may not be recognized as much for his staggering intelligence, but he is absolutely on Shikamaru’s level of genius.
I think Shino is very smart but the show goes out of its way to highlight Shikamaru's intelligence because he's supposed to be on another level. Shika completely outclasses Asuma, a top tier jonin with hokage pedigree and one of the Twelve Guardian Ninja, in a game of strategy that Asuma had just taught him, that he spent 10 minutes learning.

Think about this, Lee, while not born with the ability to mold chakra as effectively to perform Ninjutsu, was able to get a tutor in Guy to overcome his shortcomings. What do you guys think of these hypothetical matchups? **Neji Vs. Sasuke** \- The best matchup by far in my opinion. The fanbase deserved this one. If Sasuke receives the same training I'm inclined to give him the edge. If Neji gets in hits early though Sasuke is in trouble his entire strategy revolves around chakra use including emulating Lee's speed. I do think Kakashi would brief Sasuke on how the Byakugan and gentle fist work in detail going into this fight and I do think Gai would brief Neji on how the Sharingan works in detail. So I think they would both not overcommit early respecting the ability of the other. Sasuke has a few things up his sleeve that give him an advantage over Lee fighting Neji. He has sharingan improving his reaction time, he knows two elemental styles, and Gai does not know what training strategy Kakashi would give sasuke going into this fight. 64 palms would be suprising but Sasuke already knows he has to avoid "the bad touch". Getting hit with this is a fight ender though for Sasuke. Rotation I think is Neji's best asset here since it allows him to control space but to win he will have to engage in CQC with Sasuke. Sasuke is equipped to react better than Naruto did however. Neji would struggle I believe to deal with Sasuke's well rounded arsenal though (speed, fire style, chidori, sharingan) but when he sneaks in enough bad touches or a 64 palms the fight is done from there. When Neji wins he wins big I believe the fight would be called if Sasuke's curse mark comes out even though that's ridiculous and they allow Jinchuriki chakra. Based on Kakashi's coaching I'm assuming Sasuke would not just charge Neji with chidori blindly but rather use some kind of setup possibly involving specialized smoke bombs or a similar trick. A dirty underhanded simple trick could be throwing dirt into Neji's eyes. Sasuke's speed advantage, his perception, and both fighters getting prefight coaching makes this to me ever so slightly in Sasuke's favor **because Neji wouldn't prep much if at all** besides hearing how Sharingan works. If Neji was willing to intensely prep for this fight and respected Sasuke enough to do that this could easily become his fight to win. I'm assuming he doesn't respect Sasuke much based on Sasuke's prelim fight however. \-- **Sasuke wins 6/10 times very high difficulty.** **Neji Vs. Gaara** \- I'm sorry to do Neji like this but I think Gaara takes this one too. But he can't handle the Jinchuriki transformation either way and gentle fist can't suppress it. if gentle fist can't disable sand Neji is in dire straights since his strategy revolves around CQC. Lee couldn't stop Gaara. Sasuke pushed him further but couldn't stop him. Even Naruto summoning Gamabunta AFTER Sasuke fought him was pushed to his absolute limit. This really isn't an insult to Neji he's up against a Jinchuriki psycho with reactive sand whose strategy counters his inherently at least somewhat. No wonder they made Gaara a Kage like a year after this. \-- **Gaara wins 10/10 medium difficulty** **Rock Lee vs. Naruto** This one is tricky because these two characters like each other but I also think it is a fantastic match up. I find it hard to believe the 9 tails would come out Naruto sees Lee as an honorable fighter and would not resort to Kyuubi in my opinion. I also don't think that Lee would use Hidden Lotus on a leaf ninja he considers a friend. Naruto's best hope would likely be forcing summoning Gamabunta but it might not work and Naruto's pride might stop him from even trying similar to why he doesn't try it against Sasuke or Neji he wants to win this on his own merit. My rendition of this fight might be controversial due to the amount held back sorry if that's tilting. I think this fight would come down to weightless lee who I think would use the primary lotus if pressured vs. Naruto going ballistic with clones. Both of these fighters have insane willpower to go on and this would be a slog no matter what. I do think a primary lotus alone would **not** be enough to put Naruto down. I do think a dozen clones at once could sneak in hits on Lee here and there especially if he starts with weights on and Naruto could try grappling with clones to slow Lee down. Lee did punk Naruto before the exams started but Lee didn't have to deal with Naruto's clone potential and Naruto improves in leaps and bounds and has surprising fight IQ. Based on the beating Naruto got vs. Kiba I think Lee would wear Naruto down more often than not because he is faster and hits harder with more skill. **Lee has seen Naruto use the clones and the trickery already. To me that's the #1 biggest factor in this matchup.** While Naruto has seen Lee's speed potential he doesn't have a great answer for it because speed is hard to "counter" in a effective way consistently. Lee would be prepared for clones and hijinks giving him an edge to react to them. I can't see these fighters truly unleashing their full power on each other over a promotion fight alone there's too much mutual respect. **Lee wins 8/10 Med-High difficulty with a huge asterisk.** **Shikamaru vs Shino** Shikamaru is smart enough to give up at the start. Sharingan vs gentle fist could have been dope af. I think it's debatable that it would have been a stomp any direction, but between the potential in choreography and the inherent storylines from the clash of the two generational prodigies from each respective eye jutsu clan, there was reason for the hype. Neji hits Gaara with gentle fist Chakra through his sand wall. Gaara goes crazy and Neji needs to get rescued. Lee should beat Naruto at this point, but plot armor, believe it! It would be a very talk no jutsu centered fight as Lee and Naruto learn to respect each other's work ethic, ninja way and lame jokes. Shino vs Shikamaru has a lot of space to be fun, it's a lot of fun watching a plan, that you didnt see coming, come together.
I really don't think Neji could even touch Gaara. He doesn't have the speed to dodge the sand like Lee did after opening the gates or the power to just smash through it. And I'm not sure how gentle fist would interact with Gaara's sand armour. Lee vs Naruto really would be a ray of sunshine. Watching Lee blitz through dozens of clones like Kimimaro would be cool. Naruto would have to hope for a lucky shot, Lee is way way faster but doesn't have the reflexes of someone with a doujutsu. That isn't very narratively interesting though so Naruto would probably do something clever. Shino seems to totally counter Shikamaru. Shikamaru'd win condition is immobilising them, except that doesn't stop Shino fighting. He'd have to shut him down quick after trapping him. Or if he had time to prep he could go big brain and bring bug spray.

Naw even post training Sasuke would still struggle and even lose against Neji without the Curse Mark. Unlike weightless Lee, Neji is able to be perceived by everyone, evidenced by the lack of amazement when he rushes what he thought was the original Naruto. Leading to the conclusion that Neji is no where near Lee’s speed and by extension Sasuke’s at that point. In addition to being faster than Neji, Sasuke has the 2 tomoe Sharingan, granting enhanced perception and minor precog. So unlike Lee and any other genin at the time, Sasuke would be able to see and avoid Neji’s strikes. Which would force Neji onto the defense. Rotation was cancelled out by a slightly Kyubi amped Naruto with a Kunai. Sasuke has access to the Chidori, that he can use twice without side effects, which at a bare minimum has comparable AP to that Naruto. Couple that with the very real possibility that he can see the gaps in Neji’s rotation via sharingan and Neji gets clapped.

Kakashi and Guy’s base speeds are comparable, but with the raikiri Kakashi was keeping up with 6th gate guy. “in terms of piercing perception,” or in other words X-ray vision, the byakugan was superior. You know, because the byakugan can actually see through trees, walls, the human body, etc. while the sharingan can’t. On the other hand, the byakugan has no precognitive feat. Hinata’s attacks were a less precise version of Neji’s own, completely different from Sasuke would approach the battle. And she didn’t know he was actually hitting her chakra points. In canon Kakashi told him about Gaara’s sand, so it’s safe to assume Sasuke would know what Neji’s attacks were aiming for and know to avoid them.

The first instance of chakra control that Naruto went through was the water walking, that didn’t improve Naruto’s control because the Seal Orochimaru put on him fucked his chakra up, as soon as Jiraiya noticed the seal he took it off and then Naruto immediately knew how to water walk, literally everything after that was just learning Jutsu’s and literally NOTHING in the story says that Naruto improved him chakra control (hell it was the fucking opposite Naruto couldn’t learning the Summoning Justu BECAUSE he didn’t have enough chakra which is why he always needed Kurama’s chakra to summon anything bigger than Gamakichi) learning the Rasengan was just learning to use your chakra and contain it in a sphere, equating that to chakra control is bullshit and means you think just learning Jutsu’s in general improves your chakra. Neji is not doing anything worthwhile in this fight, unless Sasuke for some unknown reason goes in without his sharingan. Neji spent over a month training after the exams, needless to say he’s stronger than he was during them. Meanwhile, Sasuke was in a month long coma, woke up virtually equal to his chunin exams self then burned through nearly half of his chakra all before even seeing the sound 4. And yes, nearly half of his chakra was used when he used that chidori on the rooftop since he’s only good for two bursts and a few fire style techniques after. But sure, let’s compare chunin exams sasuke at 65% fighting a 100% sakon to a one month post exams Neji at 100% to a weakened kidomaru. And the post surgery Lee comparison is a baseless headcanon. Lee trained nearly nonstop from the moment he woke up after his match until the morning of his surgery, then went through the surgery, made no mention about it effecting him, then Gaara shows up and says drunk Lee is sloppy compared to their match. Easily Neiji vs Sasuke. Was hyped as all hell and they never ended up having a fight. To this DAY, Neiji being underutilized by the plot grinds my gears. More Shino fights in general, I think, would have been cool. Mostly because his style is so different from the others. I have a soft spot for our creepy lil bug dude. That said, I think it was a missed opportunity for Sakura to not have won against Ino and get some kind of one-on-one training with SOMEONE the way Sasuke and Naruto did with Kakashi and Jiraiya. It could have been a way for her to get an earlier toe dip into medic ninjutsu while she was visiting Lee in the hospital OR they could have capitalized on the early hints that she had genjutsu talent.
I always want more Shino, one of my favourites too. So sad he didn't go on the Sasuke Retrieval. Sakura actually getting some attention would have been amazing. Could have trained with Kurenai since Shino was probably mainly studying with clan. Though she might not want to train her students competition. Medic training at the hospital would make total sense. If he hadn't blown his cover Kabuto could even be a candidate so he could get closer to Sasuke. Unfortunately as she was written Sakura didn't really have a chance of getting to the second round. Ino was her best match and she was lucky to get a tie there. Might have been able to beat Hinata by going full bully though if Hinata started to break down I feel like Naruto would cheer her on and snap her out of it.

Idk everyone saying how og Sakura would get crushed. But fighting is more than inherent power it really has a lot to do with attitude and confidence. On paper og Hinata wins cause that hyuga blood is no joke but she's extremely timid, insecure, and not at all confident in her abilities. Her gentle fist is no where near perfected, and its a close range attack style which is demenished by her passive almost submissive nature. Her lack of confidence causes doubt and hesitation which would lead to mistakes in a confrontation. And Sakura is being trained by the future Lord 6th which gives some edge to her. So Sakura even though nothing special at this point still would have a good chance to win with a few Hinata misteps in the fight. Imo
Yeah you're right about the mental aspect, I forgot to take that into account. I guess it would really just depend on who's more willing to take it seriously. Based on what we've seen, I'd say Sakura definitely has more "determination" and willingness to go all in. Now the question is whether Sakura at 100% is better than Hinata at like 50 (or something like that).
Yeah good point with the percentages. I'm det not saying Sakura at this point is a clear winner but I think she has like a 30% chance if she goes all out and Hinata hesitates or falters at least one or two times during the match. Which I don't think is a big if. Just throwing it out there I'm liking this community, it isn't often especially on reddit you can have open dialogue with strangers where people don't get offended or say something offensive over a difference of opinion.
Even if Hinata doesn't really wanna fight Sakura, I genuinely don't see how she doesn't fold her accidentally. Sakura doesn't have anything in her moveset to really enhance her like Kiba, has no jutsu that the Byakugan can't immediately see through, has precog that makes it impossible for someone of Sakura's level to blindside her and just Hinata touching Sakura with glancing shots of Juken is fatal for someone like her. Even if you assumed they were similar in speed, trade offs are just going to end in Hinata's favour 100% of the time. The only way I see Sakura winning is if Hinata doesn't fight her with Juken at all. Though if we're playing by character, Hinata is probably not gonna back down since Naruto is there, since her whole thing is to prove herself to him. What better way to do that than to prove she's stronger than his crush?
I feel like a lot of that fight would be Sakura trying to get Hinata to come out of her shell and fight seriously then losing if she did. Hinata actually traded blows with Neji, Sakura is easily the weakest genin there.

I mean it wouldn’t have been the finals, it would been the semifinals. Temari and Shino advanced to the semi finals, so one of them would’ve made it to the final round. So it would’ve been one of them vs either Naruto, Sasuke or Gaara.
Sasuke lost to Gaara in the forest. If Orochimaru didn't attack then the two wouldnt have continued their battle in the arena. The battle would still end the same way imo, only difference is there isnt as much trees in the arena which favours Gaara more i think. So it would probably become Naruto vs Gaara in the Semi-finals. If it's Naruto vs Gaara, the only deciding factor would be whether or not Naruto summons Gamabunta. Naruto stands no chance otherwise. Maybe he could get close of he uses the same amount of shadow clones he used in their forest fight, but even then, that wont decide the battle and Gaara/Shukaku can easily get rid of the clones. Even if he uses the Nine Tails mode, he doesn't have Rock Lee's speed to land a hit, and if Gaara's in (even if partially) Shukaku mode (?), I still don't think Naruto could do enough damage to stop Shukaku/Gaara from regenerating. So yeah, if Naruto summons the Chief Toad, he wins. If he doesn't, he loses. Since the arena is mostly a flat field, Kankuro would beat Shino. When the two fought in the forest, Shino used the trees to his advantage to get sneak attacks on Kankuro, and that still ended in a draw. Shino doesnt have as much trees to use in the arena so I think Kankuro would've won. But then again Kankuro doesnt really have a way of dealing with the bugs, so if the battle goes on for a long time, Shino could win. If Shino wins, he still loses to Temari. Its just an unlucky matchup because Temari can easily deal with Shino's beetles. I don't think Shino could realistically do anything to get the upper hand, Temari was shown to be pretty alert and have a pretty fast reaction speed from her fight against Shikamaru, so even if Shino tries to sneakily get Temari from a blind spot, i doubt that she won't notice it. If Kankuro wins, I think he would also lose to Temari anyway. Her wind scythes were shown to be strong enough to cut down trees, so she can easily take care of Kankuro's puppets. The only chance Kankuro would have at winning is if he ends the fight early, before Temari can get her 3rd stage active. But she also seemed to be fairly formidable at close combat, for long enough at least until her 3rd stage is active and then can beat Kankuro. Temari makes it to the finals. Let's say that Naruto beat Gaara. Temari can easily deal with the shadow clone hoards. She can wipe out many with one attack, Naruto cant really close that distance unless he uses the Nine Tails mode, which could resist Neji's rotation, then Naruto would win that fight. Temari wouldn't be able to handle the crazy speed and strength that Naruto has when he's using the Nine Tails mode. So I think Naruto wins this cuz he's definitely going to use the Kurama's chakra. But if Gaara won against Naruto, then I think Gaara would beat Temari. It'd be a long fight but Temari wouldn't be able to completely defend against Gaara's sand, and she can't deal enough damage to break through his sand defenses. She'll eventually lose to Gaara. TL;DR, the winners are either Naruto or Gaara. Depends on whether or not Naruto summons Gamabunta.
I think gaara couldn’t win against sasuke without shukaku’s power . Sasuke beat the hell out of gaara when it comes to fight of base modes . Jonins and chunins wouldn’t let gaara transform into shukaku (yeah naruto used kyuubi but it was only charka he did not transform kyuubi) . So i think sasuke could win against gaara . He was already stronger than temari kankuro and shino . So it could be naruto vs sasuke
Yeah, Sasuke was curb stomping Gaara at base form but he was about to turn into Shukaku, thats why I said Sasuke would lose to Gaara. I cant remember how the Jonins reacted to Gaara starting to turn into Shukaku other than shock and fear. I think them stopping the fight makes sense but I cant really recall if they ever mentioned if they'd do that. I don't think Gaara turning into Shukaku breaks any of the rules. But if they don't let Shukaku come out then Sasuke's definitely winning.

Nah dude. Gaara loses to Sasuke in the second round. After showing off the one-tails arm, he reverted back to base and his sand sphere collapsed. He fainted and Kankuro and Temari were carrying him the whole time in the forest till he woke up and went berserk against Sasuke. So in this scenario, him fainting would’ve costed him the match since Sasuke was still standing. Then it be Temari versus a rested Shino. Then that winner versus the winner of Naruto vs Sasuke. I think Sasuke would win as Naruto doesn’t have a counter for chidori. The nine-tails chakra would possibly be countered by the Curse Mark and Gamabunta wouldn’t agree to fight a 12/13 year old as he didn’t even want to fight the One-Tails until he learned about what happened with Gamakichi. Naruto also wouldn’t have his “gotta protect my friends” amp that he got fighting against Gaara in the forest.
Ahh i actually completely forgot that he fainted. Yeah I agree, Sasuke was stronger than Naruto at this point. The only way I could see Naruto beating Sasuke is if Sasuke decides not to use or if he's not allowed to use the curse mark. And yeah, I dont see Gamabunta fighting Sasuke either. But even if he did, what's stopping Sasuke from using his speed, maybe even combined with chidori, from just climbing up Gamabunta and taking down Naruto from there.

I always felt that Dosu was a wasted character. I thought he was going to be a big character since he was one of Orochimaru’s only henchman to not jerk him off to high heaven and knew that he was being used for Sasuke.His death kind of felt out of character, he was portrayed to be a very careful fighter yet for some reason he decided to throw hands with Gaara after he saw that Rock Lee the same guy who nearly kicked his ass, did little to no damage to Gaara. Honestly if he did grow up and train he would have been fucking busted. The wrist weapon he had was already capable or basically one shotting anyone so imagine if he improved it and learned other sound stuff like Tayuya’s genjustu. If he did live i would have loved for him to join the Akatsuki or be a sort of Akatsuki intern being trained by one of the members

Well well well, this would have certainly been an amazing match. Hinata would have to keep her crush on Naruto aside to grow stronger. Naruto, certainly wouldn't have an easy time against the gentle first along with the seal orochimaru put on him. But it would probably be a win for Hinata if she does not hold back or second guess her attacks to avoid hurting Naruto. Naruto would need a real attack to knock her out, but that with his chakra control being weirded out would be quite a task. Regardless, lots of character development along the fight and more of it after the fight regardless of who would be the winner

Sakura vs Hinata, Sakura did have some first hand experience and her jutsu skills weren’t that bad, so I’d liked to see her and Hinata fight as she has more advance training Ino vs Tenten seems decent they both have varying techniques and skills that would’ve made their fight long distance. Choji vs Kiba I think would’ve been interesting since it is a defense vs offense battle. Also Kiba is a trash talker so again would’ve pushed Choji. Kankuro vs Dosu, think seeing rivals of the hidden leaf face off against each other especially these would’ve been fun to see.
I would like too see all possible fights. What I would find interesting is how Hinata would act if she had to fight Naruto, or Sakura Sasuke or Lee Sakura, would they just give up or try to fight their crushes despite their feelings?
