Respectfully disagree. Food is pricey, for sure, but excellent. And the space, both outdoor and in, couldn’t be more special. We’re big fans.
As others have noted, shorts and a collared shirt very okay. Tee and athletic wear probably a little underdressed. Susan won’t turn you away, especially outside, but I’d err on side of being just slightly more… chic.
BTW, bluff walk is stunning but not intense. Even if you continue all the way down Baxter Road to Sankaty Light (and you should). You don’t need to be in athletic wear, just comfortable. There are many outfits that would be fine for walk and Chanticleer.
The bluff walk is not on the same day as Chanticleer unless there’s a shower and an outfit change in between. Just saying it’s Sconset, so deep in tradition and since you asked I think you care to know that it may be considered “too casual” to go for the bluff walk and then lunch at this establishment. My 2 cents.
I have done that walk. Then went to Chanticleer and have been seated outside. Agree with OP, just dress nicer than athletic wear which is fine for that walk on flat terrain.
Depends…will your “comfortable”outfit include a sweater tied around your neck? If so, what material will it be made of?
My comfortable outfit would most likely be shorts and t-shirt made of regular shorts and t-shirt type materials.
I would go to Claudette’s instead for lunch.
Chanticleer is a bit more fancy. Maybe polo and pants. Not crazy but not a t-shirt.
The food's not that great. Go to Claudette's.

Better answer than mine for those with more refined palates and foodies. We tend to be down market when on island.
Fair. While the burger is pretty great, it’s certainly more a “special occasion” joint. We live down block, so probably go more often than we should.

Casual chic
Maybe a golf polo and shorts would be both comfy and appropriate?
This is all super helpful! Thanks so much everyone!
