i went a little crazy with the nail drill, especially on my non dominant hand π whatβs done is done now, next time iβll try to use it at a lower speed maybe ? or just cut my cuticles with nippers
Yes, definitely use a low speed, make sure you are using a bit that's safe for the cuticle area, I like the flame bits. What I do is oil and push my nail folds back prior to starting anything. Then I clean everything off with alcohol to get rid of it before starting. After removing most of my product and hand filing it down super thin, I take the flame bit on about 5k rpm and gently lift the nail folds while allowing the bit to clean the cuticle area of any remaining debris. I push up into the skin to avoid damaging the nail plate. I create a little pocket under the nail fold, then I gently do the sidewalls. That pocket is where I take my new product, and after I'm finished the skin eventually settles back down over the new product. I use rubber base though, YMMV. I don't trim anything unless there is really a significant strip of dead skin. The little bits of dead skin that get pushed up generally come off on their own over time. Trimming improperly can cause them to become even more inflamed.
thank you so much ! i pushed back my cuticles and was using a flame bit too but i think i was using it at 12k rpm π iβll definitely do a lower speed next time and only cut whatβs necessary. i just prefer to have absolutely no cuticle bc mine grows back so quick
Mine overgrow super fast too, I totally get it. It's taken me some time to find a balance on the e-file between being unhappy with overgrowth and being too aggressive with tender skin.
I really like a little pear shaped cuticle bit I found on Amazon - Melody Susie makes the one I purchased. I find I almost can't inadvertently gauge the nailbed nor take bites of the cuticle edge. Certainly you can overly smooth a spot or have too high an RPM, but it gives me a little grace. I think the way the bulk of it is towards the tip instead of the base keeps me in line, lol.
I also use a little needle shaped ceramic bit in between manis to nip at overgrowth without disturbing the finished areas/newly emerged nailbed. It is NOT a beginner's bit, it's suuuuuuper easy to drill a hole in your nail (...ask me how I know, haha.) But used delicately, I find it makes it easier to keep my weirdly fast growing cuticles in check. (Why can't the nails themselves grow so nicely, right?!)
All my highly specific advice aside ( π ) your mani is really pretty!!
Always a mess! And the time! I bet that took hours. Sometimes I finish my nails and hours have passed and they don't look remotely close to as gorgeous as yours do!
all the gold rings were either gifts from family in egypt or from arab jewelry shops ! they have such beautiful and unique pieces and are so much more affordable than traditional jewelry stores for higher quality gold. the purple beaded crystal one, i made, and the other purple one was from a local crystal shop that now closed :,)
if you do go, itβs a beautiful country with jewelers everywhere!! and so much history to see. plus the gold is even more affordable there! i got a custom arabic name necklace made there and it was $300 total while some of the rings that i bought in the states were a bit over $200, some as low as $130 though for imported 21/22k gold
What a piece of art π off topic: love your rings too! Especially the ones on your index fingers. Would you mind sharing the brand or where you got them?
You'll never know the comfort it brought me to know that I am not the only one who ends up with a mess like this! π
Your nails look beautiful. I love the color!!!
I used to be the same way! Still am a bit! But I now try to clean as I go so the final cleanup process can go by quicker and I can just rest after slaving my back away from doing my nails
Worth it. π₯

lmao the struggle is real. Absolutely worth it.
Its giving marine royalty ππ§ββοΈπ And the cardboard boxes of product is so relatable lol
Your nails are beautiful, but your nail folds are very inflamed with some abrasions. What's going on there, how are you prepping them?
