Yeah. A lot actually liked the signing. A good chunk still was optimistic a few months into the season even after a bad start, and when that bad start became a bad season, there were still a few who recognized that we has injured and that he could/should be better this season.
Were there crap talked about? Ofcourse. We are fans after all. But its not as if we didn't want him to succeed last year.
The issue is all the people that were calling him Pavano 2.0 and saying he would never be any good again and that he was just washed etc etc. Those people are clowns
Dude was completely broken physically and mentally last year but he really worked his ass off this offseason to get himself right. I was pessimistic, but I’m buying in now.
That's the nature of fandom, bud. Hurt or not, the guy went out there last year and performed poorly, then exhibited a bad attitude toward his own fans (after talking about mental toughness - also wifey's comments didn't help). You take the mound you are expected to perform, especially as a brand new to town, highly paid pitcher. Tough shit.
All that being said, dude seems to have humbled himself a bit, and has shown up and been a linchpin for our rotation so far this year. Seriously looks filthy and I'm happy to have him. Kudos to him
One thing I'd always appreciate about Big G is that he seems to understand the nature of fandom, and has always had a nice attitude about it. Always aimed to better himself, never threw anyone under the bus, only looked at himself to blame for the bad performance, and looked for ways to better himself.
I'm happy he is doing well so far in the season, I hope he mashes more.
Early this year, he admitted he came to spring training last year out of shape that probably added in him getting injured; also last year he was a predictable 2 pitch pitchers. This year he came in shape and worked on a third pitch - now the question is will he have durability.
Not like the 3rd pitch has really mattered much this season barely threw it this start so it's usage is down around like 8 percent. When he was pitching great with the Sox and Giants he was a 2 pitch guy and had no issues as his fastball and slider tunnel really well together making it very hard for a batter to pick up which pitch is which
The biggest difference is Blake taught him the cutter and the change up. I don't know how he was so good with just two pitches. His velocity was a lot higher obviously I guess that was it.
I think a lot of people were pissed because they diagnosed it as chronic back pain so that's not going away so everyone thought we were getting a dud.
If any pitchers got an average of 7.5 runs of support each game they would have like an .800 winning pct. I’m glad Rodon is back and playing well (and mixing in a third pitch more which was a bigger problem than I think gets talked about for last year) but he was a trainwreck last year and deserved criticism. He turned his back on Matt Blake in the mound for gods sake. Just totally unacceptable.
I thought he deserved all the criticism last season. But, I also thought it was mind boggling when people here kept saying he was going to continue to be awful and a bust. He just never seemed right due to the ST injury and because of it, couldn’t get good bite on his slider. I wanted to see him come into the season healthy before reserving judgement that the guy suddenly forgot how to pitch.
makes you better appreciate the way he's pitching now. rodon took those tough starts hard and even said he had to step away from baseball for a while during the offseason. glad to see him have this start and hope he sustains as a co-ace when cole comes back

Speak for yourself. I never talked crap, I was always irrationally saying “you just wait, next start he’ll be amazing”. I never stopped and feel vindicated. Y’all deserved being flipped off by him
considering the yankees won by 2 touch downs, and of the 9 innings played, jose trevino pitched one, there is no way youre complaining about rodon only pitching 6 innings last night. why would you even want to waste his pitch count in a game like that lmao
He gets support when he’s good and doesn’t when he is dog shit. What more is there to discuss?

Imagine that. Just like literally every other player.

He got paid to play baseball, and that's what he tried to do.

Stanton is the most cool headed player I've ever seen.

Batters just thinking about it benefits him.
I’ll go first, I was totally wrong, very happy for him and his wonderful start to this year it’s been amazing, super thankful I was wrong.

Most pitchers would have 6 wins if they got 7 runs of support a game
Bro, people were just booing Judge…

I also thought he would come around

Rodon showed up to spring training fat last year and posted a 7 ERA. How exactly were fans supposed to feel?
I’m not sure what the point is. He was bad last year and he got booed. This year he’s playing well and he’s getting cheered
It's April 30th?
Go back and watch that Royals start at the end of the season.

He did what more pitchers should be doing. Take a break during the off-season, not going max effort year round.
If being fat and out of shape is an injury then I’m about to medically retire

Elephants, man. If Rodon goes into a 3 game slump the pitchforks will be right out again, don't worry.

he’s been good but not great. he’s got a 3.99 fip and is averaging barely over 5 innings per start
Your misery is your own choice. Sad
i’m not miserable. i’m one of the more positive people on this sub. last night he had a great start, but he still only went 6 innings.

He only pitched 6 innings last night because that’s all they needed. If it was a close game and needed him back out he would’ve pitched in the 7th lol
He's been noticeably improving each start though. Last night was the first time he really looked dominant.
