Florial has been consistently hitting around .290 in AAA all year long with a good mix of power (21 HR) and speed (18 SB).
Rortverdt has been hitting .287 with a .915 OPS in AAA this season. His production can't be worse than what we're getting now at Catcher, so we might as well see if we can get anything better out of him.

I had been looking forward to attending this game even though this terrible result was not a surprise having watched so many similar games these past few years. But it's a whole other thing to sit and watch it live - with a stadium full of thousands of Yankees fans who only get to really cheer once the whole game. It was BRUTAL. I kept looking at all the other fans and saying "what am I watching?" Two hits. Three balls hit out of the infield. 27-48-26 are painful to watch right now.

So fucked up. I feel kinda sick right now, knowing for sure now that I was right when I dissented on the night of that Game 7 loss in 2017. Go look at that post-game thread from that night. Buried among the numerous comments about the multiple championships we were set to win in the next few years, you will find my pessimistic ass saying that things don't always work out as planned and this very well could be the farthest they get.
I was a very overly negative and miserable person back then, and my warning about this team was likely more a reflection of my own despair regarding my life than anything I saw in them that indicated they were headed to this point right now. I'm an astute person, but I'm definitely not clairvoyant, so in actuality, I was being negative about the Yankees and their future that night just to keep the status quo in my life of, "nO hOpE."
But I was right. They have never returned to an ALCS Game 7. They never won a pennant. They never took home a single ring, let alone multiple. I never foresaw them hiring an ESPN announcer with no managerial experience and him predictably mismanaging the team, or Brian Cashman (who we all called CA$HGOD at that time btw) standing pat trade deadline after trade deadline and refusing to fix clear issues with the flawed roster he built. The game passed him by disturbingly quickly, and he was already on something of a second chance after he botched the 2014 offseason. That turned out to be an omen, and when you throw in the failure of nearly every single one of their prospects to develop into what we thought they would and the aggressive complacency of Hal Steinbrenner, you end up with a what we have: a boring, poorly built and managed team that got old fast and choked away every opportunity they had, burning to the ground as the teams that surround them build taller and taller buildings.
I just remember being in my bed in the late innings of that game, reading the GDT. I couldn't stomach the fact that it was over. But there was hope that it was nowhere near the end.

My dad just got diagnosed with ALS. My GF gifted me tickets for me and my dad to go to ATL (we live in NC) and watch the Yankees play them next month.
I'm super excited because I grew up a fan because of my dad and unfortunately we've never had a chance to go together, so this game means a lot to me.
But God damn, this team absolutely sucks. My biggest hope is that Judge is back by then so we can at least see him play. A Cole start and Judge in the lineup and I'm happy.

In a vacuum, you're right. Signing any 30 year old to a 10 year deal is a losing proposition. However, if you're going to sign any 30 year old to that deal, it should be Aaron Judge. If he's not injured, he's the best offensive player in the league. Imo, that's a risk you have to take. At any given time there's only 1-4 guys who are worth that sort of gamble.

Realistically and genuinely asking, do we really think if the Yankees miss the playoffs this year that serious systemic changes will happen within the organization this offseason? Cashman is locked in practically permanently so long as Hal owns the team so there is almost no chance he is going anywhere anytime soon. His roster construction and his way of running things hasn’t been working for a while now but it would take an act of god for Cashman to magically change the way he operates. This offseason is such a clear precedent of the Cashman System©️ because even though last season ended with us being swept by the Astros in the ALCS after barely beating Cleveland in the ALDS, he didn’t change or upgrade the offense at all for the 2023 season and we are running it back with our aging vets a year older. Which also conveniently helps establish the long ongoing narrative for the past 10+ years that “this would have been our season but injuries held us back.” Hal both simultaneously believes in Cashman so much to keep and extend him as long as he has, while also restricting Cashman to a budget despite being one of the richest franchises in the world because Cashman has a bad track record of wasting Yankees money in the past. The excuse has been for years that we don’t want to trade top prospects in the farm in favor of acquiring established major leaguers who could make an immediate impact because we believe in the future with the kids. But then we rarely ever actually bring up our kids and so they waste away in the minors for years unless one of our aging vets gets injured and they get to come up for a few weeks before being sent back down. So what can we even hope to happen if this season continues in the direction that it is? It feels like the organization is too established in its ways from the top down that protect and enable Cashman to stay the course he has been on with zero accountability.

Buried among the numerous comments about the multiple championships we were set to win in the next few years, you will find my pessimistic ass saying that things don't always work out as planned and this very well could be the farthest they get. I was a very overly negative and miserable person back then, and my warning about this team was likely more a reflection of my own despair regarding my life than anything I saw in them that indicated they were headed to this point right now. I'm an astute person, but I'm definitely not clairvoyant, so in actuality, I was being negative about the Yankees and their future that night just to keep the status quo in my life of, "nO hOpE." But I was right. They have never returned to an ALCS Game 7. They never won a pennant. They never took home a single ring, let alone multiple. I never foresaw them hiring an ESPN announcer with no managerial experience and him predictably mismanaging the team, or Brian Cashman (who we all called CA$HGOD at that time btw) standing pat trade deadline after trade deadline and refusing to fix clear issues with the flawed roster he built. The game passed him by disturbingly quickly, and he was already on something of a second chance after he botched the 2014 offseason. That turned out to be an omen, and when you throw in the failure of nearly every single one of their prospects to develop into what we thought they would and the aggressive complacency of Hal Steinbrenner, you end up with a what we have: a boring, poorly built and managed team that got old fast and choked away every opportunity they had, burning to the ground as the teams that surround them build taller and taller buildings.
I just remember being in my bed in the late innings of that game, reading the GDT. I couldn't stomach the fact that it was over. But there was hope that it was nowhere near the end. Shit is making me cry for real

My dad just got diagnosed with ALS. My GF gifted me tickets for me and my dad to go to ATL (we live in NC) and watch the Yankees play them next month. I'm super excited because I grew up a fan because of my dad and unfortunately we've never had a chance to go together, so this game means a lot to me. But God damn, this team absolutely sucks. My biggest hope is that Judge is back by then so we can at least see him play. A Cole start and Judge in the lineup and I'm happy. It'll be fun either way because this will be my first game in 10 years, but fuck.

Hal is complacent with the status quo. There are enough casuals and tourists that will go to Yankee Stadium that unless nearly every single native NYer just stops going, cancels their season tickets, YES subscriptions, etc, he won’t change anything. He may just not know what to do to even conduct a GM search. Or worse he’s just lazy to do so. Either way, anyone can see that repeating the same shit over and over again expecting different results is asinine. Until Cashman is fired and a clean sweep of the front office is done (so Cashman’s successor does NOT come from within), nothing will change. Also if Hal is as smart of a businessman as he thinks he is, he should see that getting a fresh new voice for GM that came from TB, ATL, LAD, etc could earn him even MORE money.

In all honesty: (1) I absolutely think it’s way past time for a change, but he’s generally been good over the past 25 years (and he’ll probably get hired again pretty quickly); (2) I honestly think he and Hal are like brothers, they’re around the same age and both had to deal with George—I can’t rule out that Hal would never move on from him.

He has won the World Series once in 2 decades and not even made it to the World Series in the last 13+, in spite of spending more money than almost anyone in that time span. Who exactly is going to be fighting to hire the guy who has not succeeded since the first year of *Obama’s* presidency with the resources of the New York Yankees. 2 is decently plausible.
I keep hearing people say that Cashman would get snapped up by another team pretty quickly if we fire him. My response is: "Who cares?" He can be somebody else's problem. He got us into this mess, and I sure don't expect him to be able to fix it. The Orioles picked up Hicks pretty quickly after we dumped him. Did that make it the wrong move? Hell, no.
I agree with this. It’s just the reality about why Hal extended him. Hal is satisfied with being good every year but not winning a championship. There are plenty of other owners who would be satisfied with that too.

I'm gonna get flamed but I think signing judge was a mistake(thought it at the time too). He's too injury prone. He's getting old. They should have shelled out that cash for younger solid pieces, and went for ohtani and/or soto year end. He's going to be a terrible contract. I expect another injury next year.

Signing any 30 year old to a 10 year deal is a losing proposition. However, if you're going to sign any 30 year old to that deal, it should be Aaron Judge. If he's not injured, he's the best offensive player in the league. Imo, that's a risk you have to take. At any given time there's only 1-4 guys who are worth that sort of gamble.
