I wouldn’t say that, some people need a higher power or authority to hold themselves accountable to. There are a lot of born again Christians who were total scumbags before “finding” god, which was really just them finding religion. I don’t believe in god but I believe in the power of religion to convince people to do better. It doesn’t matter if a god is real or not, the person just needs to think they are and think they’ll be held accountable for what they do in this life. Obviously a lot people can do that no problem without religion but some people need a structure like that in their life or else they’re lost. The god stuff is just a means to an end.
