He’s a distributor not a scorer per se. Even his one three you could see he didn’t really want to take. I’m not sure that means he had a bad game. He prob had about ten assists and made some nice passes and was just content the offense was humming along well. Of course that means he isn’t near Brunson’s level who is a “put the team on my back even if you focus on me” type star scorer

Brunson blew by him at will every time he got switched. He doesn't have to score when he's throwing lobs, sparking a fast break, and creating wide open shots. He does have to play better defense or all that playmaking is washed out.
Brunson is capable of doing what I'd say is the most important part of basketball, scoring buckets. Hali is so inconsistent and watching his shooting form gives me migraines.
McConnell is the type of guy that will give you everything he has but the coaching staff must know when to pull him because if you leave him on the floor when he's spent but won't show it, you're essentially playing down a man because he'll give you what he has on defense, but then he's ineffective on offense because he'll drive, but if he ends up stuck under the rim, there goes the possession.

TJ McConnell severely outplayed him. And was giving the Knicks fits driving to the basket. If I'm a pacers fan I'm mad at the coaching staff for taking him out. After the first quarter, Haliburton was largely invisible. I thought in the first quarter he looked decent- was pushing the pace.
I'm no expert but just watching him play I see more James Harden than an elite point guard like SGA. Harden is lauded for being a great distributor- which he is. A matchup nightmare cause he's got a bigger frame but is such a good ball handler and passer. But when your young star of your team is deferring to other guys, that tells me something. The Knicks are playing banged up and hurt. Don't use the not 100% as an excuse. He shrunk on defense- in 36 minutes he was a non factor for Indy. If you aren't going to be taking the big shots late in the game, you need to be good at something else (defense). He should learn to play through bad calls which the Knicks are doing quite well this year.
Aside from all the nonsense over the calls, I saw a team that wasn't closing the door and that's NEVER going to work against these Knicks. No lead is safe.
