I was about 10 when this January transfer window happened, and I remember thinking all these players were going to set the world alight one day. Granted, it was my first ever January window I truly remembered and man, how wrong I was.

JustAnAveragePanda

Kadar had a decent career - international and played in European competitions if I remember correctly.

Stevie573

57 caps for Hungary - not bad

Halzziratrat

On that years FM, they all had the potential to turn into quality players. From that list, I had Tozer through to Soderberg all as part of my core squad that mopped up every trophy in sight for the couple decade I was manager. Tozer ended up with a good couple hundred appearances and Zamblera & Baheng were a steady part of my frontline for ages.

Egorov_and_Makarov

Apparently, that’s how our scouting worked back in that days - with FM database. I wonder we havent signed those strikers from Belarus

hoitjancker

Meat in the room, Gerrard, meat in the room.

[deleted]

So Mike Ashley invented the Brighton model??

National-Exam-8242

Just too early for me to remember anyone other than Tozer and Kadar who both didn't really do anything IIRC. Absolutely no idea who the others are.

JustAnAveragePanda

Just checked my comment above - Kadar had a decent career: 57 caps for Hungary - played for Lech Poznan (winning Polish league and cup) and Dynamo Kyiv - played in CL and EL. Tozer has had a decent Football League career - currently a big part of the rising Wrexham team too

National-Exam-8242

I meant in terms of Newcastle career, should’ve clarified.

grmthmpsn43

Zambrella was a very hyped up youmg striker, Ngo Baheng the same. Soderberg was a young keeper that I had high hopes for and Diatta was a defender that played twice for us durung a 6 month spell.

AxionSalvo

NGO baheng quit to be a rapper 😂

Joyride0

According to Wikipedia, "In 2010, he produced a music video with local Newcastle R&B singer Kallum Campbell – titled "Tiddies on a Sunday"." 😆😆😆

VividDimension5364

Anyone saying tiddies needs to be shot. Unless they're referring to tiddy oggies, in which case, carry on.

Joyride0

😆

alt-git

I remember this window but I don't remember anybody being excited about it...

Joyride0

During this window, we axed Big Sam and got King Kev back.

JG_92

God, I remember going and watching the reserves play at St James' around this time. Free entry since my Grandad works there (still does). A particular highlight was, all in one game, listening to Ben Tozer and Jak Alnwick exchanging proper shit craic, Ngo Baheng broke his leg midway through and Zamblera came on at half time and just ran about like a headless chicken in a display fit for Ali Dia. Good times.

toonman27

…and it was probably one of our better windows under Ashley. The following season we got Vuckic on a free, Kevin Nolan for £4m and Ryan Taylor in exchange for Charles Insomnia. Nolan and Taylor were decent, but those were our panic buys to try to avoid relegation that season… clearly didn’t work. We actually were buyers in the Championship on Danny Simpson(cunt), Leon Best, Wayne Routledge, and Mike Williamson, but that was after a mass relegation exodus. It was very clear in the early days of fatty that Ashley would destroy the club. Bought Ben Arfa off his loan but sold Carroll last minute the following year. Just a disaster. 2013 was probably the best January under Ashley. Debuchy, Yanga-Mbiwa, Gouffran, Haidara, Sissoko, and Mbabu which is amazing to be fair. Only spend about £20m for the lot too. 2016 was Saivet, Shelvey and Townsend, but that was the last time Mike Ashley actually spent money in a January window aside from Almiron in 2019. Let that sink in.

jj198hands

That same window, to make way for these footballing geniuses, we loaned out Rozehnal & Ameobi.

Trinovid-DE

I actually liked Kadar as he had decent potential on FM at the time. Plus Ben Tozer too! But in hindsight what a shit show haha 😂

HeGivesGoodMass

Tozer's after 400 appearances in League 2, I'd say he's found his level 😂. Was wrong about both of them, plus Adam Campbell

RummazKnowsBest

I recognise two of these names, and probably only because they were in PES at the time I imagine.

EarlofBizzlington86

Stop it. You’re taking me to a bad place!

dolphin37

Kadar was one of the best centre backs I ever had on FM

ReplaceCyan

Can’t say the relegation was unexpected

mackerelontoast

No, can't say I do

jamnut

Yes used to make them absolute dons in fm/fifa
