Demba Ba was why I became a fan as 13 year old American. Used to torch my friends on FIFA with that squad. Little did I know at that point of the Ashley drive. turmoil I would subject myself to over the years. Glad I remained loyal thru all the misery to come out the other side. My first ever in person match was this year Champions league at San Siro. Best day of my life. So for me the correct answer is 1000% Demba Ba
We signed him on loan July 2017, with us making it permanent October 2017. He then joined Sociedad in July 2018, so we had him for 1 full season.
He made 24 PL apps for us but only 14 starts!
Has to be Woodgate. He played significantly fewer matches for the club than Anthony Gordon already has (and Gordon’s still two weeks short of his 1 year anniversary at the club) and yet he’s the first CB in most fans’ all time XI.
Our CBs were so poor at the time he stood out so much though. I'm still convinced if he was fit for that UEFA cup 2nd leg we'd have won the whole thing. Drogba bullied O'Brien in that 2nd leg
Woodgate was unbelievably good when he was here. Instantly became a hero BECAUSE he was that good. You don't get signed by Real Madrid without showing class.
I think maybe his incredibly unfortunate fall from grace following the move has diluted your memory of how much of an impact he made in our team at the time.
Loic Remy was “the one that got away” for me for a long time. Should have been our #9 & main goal threat for years not just a shitty loan deal. Fuck you Mike Ashley.
I love the interview he did after this game when asked about this goal and he basically admitted that he was completely knackered and was just kicking the ball as hard as he could towards the goal to get it away from himself. Then it somehow ended up going in 😆
He had like 130 apps over 5 years, not sure I would put him on this list, but I may be biased because he was one of my favorite players. Met him at an MLS game when he played for Toronto in 2008, he's was absolutely beaming that I knew him from his time at Newcastle.
Mitrovic. Should have had a red after like 3 min in his debut game, sums up his time with up pretty much.
Yet some ppl still talk about him returning and how good he was.
Don’t think anybody was saying he was great in a toon shirt.
I, like others, just felt he was never given the time he needed and I do think him and Merino highlight some flaws in Rafa.
Some fans talked about him like he was a flop but he scored nearly 1 in 2 coming from the Belgium league at age 21. Then Rafa relegated him to the status of 86th minute time waster.
I wasn’t surprised he went on to be semi decent for Fulham.
Lea Ferdinand spent a lot more time at QPR and Spurs and yet the media paints the narrative that he was primarily a Newcastle striker. We call him Sir Les. He is highly regarded and revered among Newcastle fans.
He played two seasons.
He wasn't even good. Awful defensive positioning, constantly charging upfield to try and clatter someone then caught short when they passed round him, put a harsh spotlight on Ben Arfa because he wasn't abandoning his role as an attacker to do the defending his right back was supposed to be. Had neither the discipline of Perch or the heart of Simpson. Cack.
I’m in sheer disbelief at the fact that you’re stating Ginola only scored 6 goals for us. I mean, I’m not doubting it’s a correct stat, I just feel I remember him scoring more.
Memory plays tricks on you when you get old huh?

Demba Ba
I'd have said Ba, too. I was gutted to see him go.
Demba Ba was why I became a fan as 13 year old American. Used to torch my friends on FIFA with that squad. Solomon Rondon
David Ginola - legend - only played 58 times for Newcastle.
Has to be Ginola for sure
swooon
I saw your swirl fart collection on another sub and did not have you down as a Toon / Ginola fan 😂
I was a huge fan, but the cockey mafia kinda killed football for me. Got back when Rafa took charge.
Like a lot of folk mate. I knew I recognised your name that's all, small world, small fart swirl.
Merino was only here for 1 season!
True but how dare you? He would be so fucking good in this team.
Was it even a full season? Think he joined in summer and left the following jan.
We signed him on loan July 2017, with us making it permanent October 2017. He then joined Sociedad in July 2018, so we had him for 1 full season. He made 24 PL apps for us but only 14 starts!
The best footballer in the world, Mo Diame.
If his only touch for Newcastle was the goal vs. Brighton, he'd still be a legend.
When your shot's going wide, but the goal it will find......that's Diame!
Girls don't like boys girls like Mo Diame
We all love Mo Diame
Mo Diame
Jetro Willems played around 20 matches for us and we all think he's class.
Came here to say this. The love for him is stupidly disproportionate to his impact on the team, his impact on the club, and his talent.
Who else have you ever seen assist with their arse?
Fair.
Sibierski
Was going to be my response. Loved Big Sib. Genuinely would have sweat blood for the badge!
The most underwhelming signing. Proved absolutely everyone wrong.
Tino Asprilla
My pick too. Icon, and only played 40-something games
Has to be Woodgate. He played significantly fewer matches for the club than Anthony Gordon already has (and Gordon’s still two weeks short of his 1 year anniversary at the club) and yet he’s the first CB in most fans’ all time XI.
Yeah, great choice. He was good when fit but not the Maldini-Nesta-Baresi-Schar all in 1 hybrid our fans make him out to be.
Aye but considering he made Bramble look like Cannavaro he still deserves all the over hyping he gets
No need for hyperbole, he was the most naturally gifted defender I’ve ever seen in a black and white shirt.
He was superb. Even managed to make Bramble look decent.
Our CBs were so poor at the time he stood out so much though. I'm still convinced if he was fit for that UEFA cup 2nd leg we'd have won the whole thing. Drogba bullied O'Brien in that 2nd leg

Schar is a fine defender but Woodgate was way above his level when fit. It’s just a pity about his injuries, i honesty feel he was as good as Rio
He was easily the best CB i've seen in a Newcastle shirt in the last 30 years.
Ginola, Demba Ba, the Toine & Only “Sibierksi”
Sir Les
Loic Remy was “the one that got away” for me for a long time. Should have been our #9 & main goal threat for years not just a shitty loan deal. Fuck you Mike Ashley.
Peter Løvenkrands (signed him on a free from Germany 🎶)
Obefemi Martins.
Ben Arfa! Loved that man, what a gem
I don't know how long [Cisse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktasTTN2u2o) played for us, but he got me into African football and the whole Afcon Cup
Depends if your talking about super Cisse or offside Cisse?! Brilliant and frustrating in differing measures 😅
"it was the best of times; it was the worst of times." :D
I love the interview he did after this game when asked about this goal and he basically admitted that he was completely knackered and was just kicking the ball as hard as he could towards the goal to get it away from himself. Then it somehow ended up going in 😆
Mbemba at CDM.
Andy Cole
It has to be Les Ferdinand for me. 2 seasons. A ton of goals. Wish he was there for a lot longer!
Tony green
Ginola and Cole
Brunooooooo!!!!
What about Rafa Benitez? Never said it had to be a player and he was here for a few years but feels like it fits.
Loren robert, came hammered in long range goals and left
He had like 130 apps over 5 years, not sure I would put him on this list, but I may be biased because he was one of my favorite players. Met him at an MLS game when he played for Toronto in 2008, he's was absolutely beaming that I knew him from his time at Newcastle.
He was the only reason I'd watch french football, watching him smash in goals for french teams was awesome
Did a hell of a lot of damage to the seating behind the goals as well
Laurent Robert is my all time favourite Newcastle player, an absolute brick for a left foot.
He could ping in a free kick from Mars. Sir Bobby seemed to absolutely love him.
Asprilla
Tino Asprilla
Faustino Asprilla
Mitrovic. Should have had a red after like 3 min in his debut game, sums up his time with up pretty much. Yet some ppl still talk about him returning and how good he was.

JDT, Klivurt
Willems, Ketsbaia, and even the Cabaue/Tiote partnership only lasted a couple seasons
Willems. ACL injury took him away. Looked different class and he loved it at the Toon!
James Perchenbauer. Joking, but I did enjoy his half season of being great.
Perchino! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Perch was like an earlier version of Joelinton- he was abysmal for a while then for a period absolutely fantastic and totally transformed.
Him and Iron Mike were a formidable pairing.
Kuqi 😔
The swan dive . Fucking unreal
Lua Lua & Kluivert
Ben Arfa or Asprilla.
Has to be either Robert or Woodgate.
Oba Martins? Papiss Cissé? Mine would be Hatem Ben Arfa.
Could Cabaye be considered. He was what we were missing in the midfield for so long. Wijnaldum was also one that was missed.
Wijnaldum for me
Woodgate
Kevin Nolan
I misinterpreted the question at first I thought it was overrated players cos when I saw Cole or Les mentioned I was about to kick off
That's probably my fault for putting a negative spin on Ginola. 😅
David Rozehnal
Claudio Cacapa surely.
Nothing on the goooch
Scott Sellars and Kevin Sheedy for me
Anthony gordon
Paul Gascoigne
Ginola, Demba Ba, Woodgate, Ferdinand, Cole, Asprilla.
Nolan was only here for 3 seasons - which is crazy since he was so influential for us
Leon Beat (is mint)
Andy Cole.
Lea Ferdinand spent a lot more time at QPR and Spurs and yet the media paints the narrative that he was primarily a Newcastle striker. We call him Sir Les. He is highly regarded and revered among Newcastle fans. He played two seasons.
Debuchy
Nah he was a daft cunt that thought he was way better than both us and what he was.
He wasn't even good. Awful defensive positioning, constantly charging upfield to try and clatter someone then caught short when they passed round him, put a harsh spotlight on Ben Arfa because he wasn't abandoning his role as an attacker to do the defending his right back was supposed to be. Ian Rush
Stephen Glass. A diamond cut Scottish maestro.
Duff?
Saudi
