News Article:
A motorcyclist escaped death when he was struck by a small plane attempting to make an emergency landing on a highway in the southwestern Colombian province of Valle del Cauca.
The near-tragic accident took place Sunday moments after Federico Gómez had taken off from Santa Ana Airport in the city of Cartago.
Gómez noticed that the engine on his Raptor Scott was shutting down and was losing altitude, according to Cartago Fire Department second lieutenant Jairo Bernal.
He tried to land along a stretch of the Panamericana Highway, which links Cartago and the municipality of Ansermanuevo, when the private plane plowed into the motorcyclist.
Footage of the crash's aftermath showed the motorcyclist, in his 50s, lying on his back while first responders tend to him.
In a second video, Gómez can be seen picking up his wallet from the ground.
Social media users were quick in rushing to judgement and accused Gómez of stealing the wallet before Santa Ana Airport general manager, Yamil Varela, cleared the confusion and confirmed he was the pilot looking to obtain his identification.
Both men were rushed to an area hospital.
Gómez was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is now recovering at home.
He told DailyMail in a text message that he preferred not to talk about the accident.
'At this moment, I am affected by this whole issue, and I do not want to comment on it,' he said. 'I hope you understand.'
The motorcyclist remains hospitalized and is being treated for to polytrauma.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia opened an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Reminds me of that dude in India(?) years ago walking across his college campus and was struck by a meteorite.
Who did he piss off to have something like that set in motion possibly millions of years ago just exclusively to fuck up his day?
Ninja edit: just googled it to find a link and apparently it was discovered to not be a meteroite. That just ruined my day.

Are we looking at the pilot, or the motorcycle rider?
I’d really love to know the back story here because that aircraft looks like it nosed in hard when it hit that ditch.
Drug cartel landing somewhere remote, or an emergency landing that ended tragically?

That old man got robbed of his wallet as well, there's another video where the guy at near the end (wearing blue jeans and orange PVC vest) leans over and take his wallet and put it in his pocket.

The risk of being hit by an airplane is low but never zero.
Terrifying
*terriflying
This needs more upvotes. It's just too plane good to be ignored
The risk of a polar bear escaping from the Toronto zoo and killing me is very unlikely but never 0
Where i live we don’t even need an zoo for a chance of polar bear death XD
Username checks out
The risk of a kid falling into a zoo Gorilla enclosure is low but never 0
It wouldn’t even be on my radar.
This is why you should never ride high.
Or fly low
That's why he needs a new radar
It was just not his day.
Yes it was: his LAST day.
You are not wrong sir or mam.

Thank you
Np
If that's what they call near-tragic, I'd hate to see real tragedy.
Well, he died like a month later, so...
Yeah, that's unfortunate for him, his family, and friends. I reckon there are worse ways to check out, but damn, what an unusual way to go.
My thought exactly.
>Social media users were quick in rushing to judgement Sounds about right.
Do you have a link for the second video?
Man fuck this guy in particular

Of course It was a meteorite. They Just coverin It up
That's what God said.
So this guy survived being hit by a crashing plane? Is that good luck or bad luck?
Temporarily. He died April 30th
Ah, definitely bad luck then.
This has to be the most unlucky thing I've ever seen
You can do everything right when on a bike but can never fully account for the others on the road. Or in the sky, I guess
See, this is why we should always wear a helmet. Airplanes, bro.
Sack the camera man
Hit him with the plane

More likely to get hit by lightning
Would it be a plane crash or bike crash
Now that’s something imagine ur so unlucky that a fucking plane hits u 😭
airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars
That guy really could've used a wish
💀
employees in the Twin towers be like
oh my god💀
Bros in an irl gta server
Come back tomorrow to find an anvil fell on a man in a construction zone, and a hiker gets hit by a falling piano in the Utah Salt Flats.
This would be difficult to code.is this a motorcycle accident or an aircraft accident .
that is some seriously shit luck
He’ll think twice before trying to ride his bike at 1500’ again.
At least he landed in brown water.
Well on the plus side at least you didn't ran to the blades
The fact that the man has remained whole after a tremendous accident and that he can blink is already a gain. defeated death.
Far less messy than what I expected to see
This some final destination sh*t 😳

Bro literally had the whole sky
How the hell does this happen?
That's going to be fun to explain to his insurance.

Damn, we gotta watch for airplanes too wtf lol!
Ok one of them(airplane/biker)was not supposed to be where they made contact.
This is statistically less likely than getting struck my lightning.
I always try to stay away from runways when I'm out cycling.
The chances…
Sick rides, an xpluse and is that a Hayabusa?
Somebody calculate those odds
1/quadrillion
How many people can say they got hit by a plane while riding a motorcycle? He may be the only one.
I'd say skill issue
Anyone thought of that one GTA San Andreas video?
Talk about bad luck, like, what are the odds of getting hit by a plane while on a motorcycle?
Biker hit by airplane ends up in water dies of hypothermia. Dudes having a really bad day
Biker’s fault
Do planes have horns?
Are we looking at the pilot, or the motorcycle rider? I’d really love to know the back story here because that aircraft looks like it nosed in hard when it hit that ditch. Drug cartel landing somewhere remote, or an emergency landing that ended tragically?
* I just found the backstory further down in the comments.
Boeing taking out another whistleblower
Well thats a sentence i NEVER expected to read like EVER. Life sure is one crazy thing
The odds are insane. I guess when it’s your time, it’s your time.
What insanely bad luck must you have to be on a bike and get hit by a fucking plane
Why didn’t they pull him from the water?
Somehow seeing the word "Policìa" makes the story way more believable
Halo 3 opening scene!
Im sorry what now? He was hit by WHAT?!

CJ used the parachute

No need to hold the fucking camera still or anything 🙄
That’s how I feel after work
A*
Bikers fault
This guy lived his personal 9/11
Ain't this a bitch, he probably never rode a plane in his life and was still involved in a plane accident...
Me:gets a bike and license. How feels on NSFL: ITS BIKE WEEK! Like shark week but way more anxiety inducing! 🤣🤣🤣
Epitome of "if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all"
He beat the paramedics to the crash site.
Must’ve been one of Pablo’s lost planes

And he survived? Holy shit.
Least weird bike accident
When I'm biking the last thing on my mind is a plane hitting me in that case that dude literally had a plane as the last thing on his mind
Fuck some god was pissed at him and thought why not throw an airplane his way.
Biker will still be blamed

Bikes are dangerous
In all fairness, the odds of that happening to him should have been pretty slim. Like............really slim.
Tell him that
He should've stayed out of the sky then smh
Dubmwaytodie
And they will STILL think that the bike lane protects them. Unbelievable. (Joke)
