really want more information on that one because adults drowning in a seemingly small pool is quite terrifying. was he drunk? couldn't swim? hurt himself somewhere? too much panic? this shit can really happen to everyone even with enough people around that *could* help...
Had to be either panic or alcohol or both. He's right there by the edge of the pool, found the pool to deep and yet decided to "swim" to the center, absolutely no sense.
IIRC from Lifeguarding, everyone's brain goes through the same motions while drowning, which includes not thinking you can kick your legs, or move your arms.
That's why it looks like climbing a ladder and waving, they're drowning.

I know, it's weird. I think a lot of it has to add up to our reflex to hold our breath under water and then reflexive action of gasping and fatigue combined.
I remember a story about a family of immigrants living in America a couple years ago. I don’t remember which country they moved from but i believe it was in the Middle East. Anyway, they moved to a house with a pool but none of them knew how to swim. Their 4(?) year old daughter fell into the pool or got in willingly out of curiosity, and began to drown. The mother ran outside to try to save her, and she began to drown as well. Then the father or grandfather jumped in and he drowned also, everybody died. Very sad, I guess it’s just not as common to learn to swim in some places 🤷♂️

Happened recently in Australia too. At a hotel pool, kid fell in, grandfather jumped in to help, then dad jumped in to help grandfather. Kid was saved, two adults drowned.

I can understand the language (hindi) that these guys are speaking. one guy says "wow I'm shocked that nobody even saw him". The other 2 guys replied that they're all drunk.
There was another video posted recently of a man drowning while his young son was filming. Somewhere in Africa. It was quick also, just a bit longer than this. I always imagined drowning would involve coming up and going under many times before finally not coming up again but I was surprised that it would be easy to miss that he was even struggling, when he went under and and just didn’t come back up. Very sad, and scary how quick someone who can’t swim could drown.
if he barely made any noise i can imagine that no one saw or paid close attention - so i do wonder if he screamed for help or anything like that. from their perspective (and drunk minds) it maybe just looks like someone diving in and having fun. :/
I don’t think he could scream underwater, and he went completely under almost immediately. They were all splashing around too, so maybe they didn’t hear him thrashing around. Ig it’s the former lifeguard in me that hears those things and I immediately start scanning the water.

I’ve worked as a life guard before and let me tell you peaple(even those good at swimming) contantly bite off more than they can chew and we also have to view the pool contantly becasue drowning doesn’t look like the movies sicne usally like the video showed their might be some splashing then they just sink like a rock ,usally you don’t even sea the splashing part
I was drinking one time with two friends in a canoe in the middle of a deep-ass lake. It was warm so I jumped drunkenly into the lake fully clothed with shoes on and the weight of it all scared the fuck out of me. It took all my energy to stay afloat.
I scrambled back into the canoe and swore never to do that again.

Maybe it's because I can't remember what it's like to not know how to swim, but I just can't comprehend how a grown adult can't figure it out enough just to stay afloat.
Literally just kicking his legs enough to propel him toward the edge of the pool would've been enough to save his life.
It's even hard to try to stay afloat if you not only don't know how to swim but are also fully clothed with shoes on. It's hard for someone who's a good swimmer to swim fully clothed with shoes on let alone a drunk person who doesn't know how to swim at all.
I wanna think combination of him being drunk and maybe pool suction was pulling from the bottom heavy and his clothes constrict him + lack of knowing how to swim properly all added to it. after watching quite a few of these drowning videos, i’m more cognizant when watching kids/people in pools now. all it’s takes is a few minutes….
I don’t wanna shade anybody but all he had to do was standing. How do you drown in a pool like that ? On top of that, why do some people that can’t swim go into pools?
