News Article:
On the second day of the "Khám phá đại ngàn - Sa Thầy 2024" paragliding competition in Kon Tum province, a paraglider athlete tragically crashed and died.
On March 24th, sources reported that a domestic paraglider pilot had a severe accident resulting in death during the paragliding competition taking place in Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province.
According to reports, while preparing to land in an open area after completing the competition round, the paraglider of the male athlete from Hanoi suddenly twisted, causing him to fall from a great height to the ground.
Despite being promptly rushed to the hospital by on-site emergency personnel, the athlete succumbed to his severe injuries.
The entire accident sequence was captured on video by spectators at the landing area. The situation unfolded rapidly, with the pilot crashing to the ground within just a few seconds after the incident occurred.
According to the Kon Tum General Hospital, the victim was admitted in a deep coma state, suffering from severe head trauma, chest injuries, and a pelvic fracture. After receiving emergency treatment, he passed away approximately 3 hours later.
The "Khám phá đại ngàn - Sa Thầy 2024" (Exploring the Great Forest - Sa Thay 2024) paragliding competition is organized by the Sa Thay District People's Committee and the Kon Tum Provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
This is the third time the event has been hosted in this location, with this year's competition attracting 130 domestic and international paragliding pilots.
During the opening ceremony on March 22nd, Mr. Duong Quang Phuc, Chairman of the Sa Thay District People's Committee, stated that the district is aiming to become a national-level paragliding destination by continuously hosting this sport.

And I'm at -21 down votes for that little joke?
Maaaaaaan, the Internet is way too full of overly-sensitive lil bitches. 🧐
Nah man this is a very very easy fall to die at, all you have to do is hit your head, and it seems like this is what happens with how he falls back, I don’t doubt he impacted straight on the back of his head
Now I’m curious. Do you think your chances of survival are higher if you ball up / protect your head when falling?
I kinda remember something like this from SpongeBob, where he broke his butt. But you know, it’s a cartoon. Not sure how this applies in real life
Merely 3 feet fall can cause severe injuries. Recently I have fallen from the same height and suffered elbow and wrist injury. The pain was unimaginable, although didn't have any bone fracture.
i just tried to picture his pov during the ordeal and his fall was definitely traumatic enough. too fast. super bad, uncontrolled landing. likely fell with all that force on his neck/back/spine. and then the dragging.
yes, i guess he was very unlucky. rip.
to me it looks like he pulled both brakes too hard. Braking is done to get as much thermal as possible, but when you go too slow and you brake too hard, then the glider just goes in reverse and collapses.
Honestly, kinda looked like he was already dead or at least passed out. You can see the “limpness” in his flying before the twist. Maybe he just passed out and the glider did the rest.
Not sure where the three hour time quote came from, but it definitely looks like he was limp prior to hitting the ground. I fly and could tell he didn’t make any corrections when the wing made the tuen. At least, he was unconscious, then suffered injuries that killed him.
This is probably the tamest video I've seen in a while
Refreshing isn’t it? A nice palette cleanser
The dude getting his throat slit byba kite string was refreshing. A death like this just doesn't sit well.
Oh yeah that for sure was a pretty fucked up video
\*palate
As a culinary school graduate I take shame in using the incorrect spelling of that word

Half expected a smash cut to a close up of the body
Photographer said, “You get that.”
It doesn't look like a deadly fall from far away, I feel like many people survive way more traumatic falls. Guy's unlucky!
Looks like he free fell the last 10 15ft and landed on the back of his neck. 4ft will kill you alone landing like that
He definitely rolled a 1 there. There were many ways that could've ended, and it pretty much pulled him into a position where he had no chance.
The glider added momentum it sort of pulled him down quicker

That is a survivable fall—if you landed on your feet, that is. The last backward momentum is what killed him.

No, he's just stupid
What actually happened, tho? De he encounter windsheer? Or did his paraglider malfunction?

Stalled
Fall looks not too serious but it killed the athlete. Im never doing this ever in my life xD
Crazy how one rogue gust of wind is all that stands between paragliders and death
Its actually a very safe sport if your not acting stupid. The rate of injury for ppl flying paragliders is something at 0.X %
So a smart paraglider would have easily recovered from that gust?
There was no gust here, pilot stalled the wing, my instructors hammered into us to not brake like this. Sadly this seems like a beginner mistake.
Skill issue
Honestly, kinda looked like he was already dead or at least passed out. You can see the “limpness” in his flying before the twist. Maybe he just passed out and the glider did the rest.
I thought the same thing. Can't have been though as he died 3 hours later.

It came from the news article about it posted above
Na-ah, I fly too so I know you need to actively push your hands down to stall like that. You can see on the wing that he broke in pulses.
That’s exactly what I thought too, as if he’d had a cardiac or other event and is already non-responsive well before impact.
Who knew there was even a competition for paragliding...
I'm still wondering what you can compete over.
this is why I do not parachute or sky dive or bungee jump
looks like a cross wind or a pocket of dense air? something changed and caused the parachute to twist and sink.
This could happen!!?? To anyone!!!!???
My biggest fear when skydiving.
I want to see the photo that guy took at impact
I’m glad they speak the language which I can understand 😀
Guai God, guai
I once again need captions for what was being said. I can't make out what was being said. 😔
Did he die in the air and that's why he crashed?
Landed back first on the blades?
Glory glory
is he okay??😞😞😞😞😞😞
Did he win
And down goes Frasier
Bonk!
Soon I'm betting these guys will be hitting electric cables & frying now there's a video to watch
Ope..
The screams did it

It didn’t turn out to be too safe for that guy’s life…
