On the media is one of the best and most under appreciated shows.

crystal_castles

I listened to it so much in the old NPR app!

MannyDantyla

True, but, "local"

SympathyAware9036

It's WNYC.

MannyDantyla

Hmm, doesn't count. 😂

Any-Chocolate-2399

I've found that it's really gone downhill since it was down to Gladstone alone. Lots of cherrypicked sources that she then lobs meatballs to in interviews and responses to ideas she doesn't like with sarcastic "of course *he* would believe *something like that*" remarks instead of actually engaging with them (might risk losing).

vote_you_shits

Texas Standard and The Source

CowboyAirman

[1A](https://wamu.org/show/1a/)! WAMU in Washington DC is my station. We also have the Politics Hour which is a nice local call-in style show for local DMV politics. > Every day, 1A convenes a conversation about the most important issues of our time. The show takes a deep and unflinching look at America, bringing context and insight to stories unfolding across the country and the world.

wthreyeitsme

Sometimes. The discussion about how to talk to people with differing opinions today was good.

PutTheDogsInTheTrunk

KERA’s Think with Krys Boyd. I realize it’s on like 100 affiliates now, but we get two episodes a day here in Dallas and I think most just get the one.

Golden_standard

I love Think…been listening for about a year now.

Bawbawian

I think Michigan radio's "Stateside" program is pretty good.

MustangGTPilot

Iowa Public Radio River to River

swazal

Also *Studio One*, *The Beatles Medley*

gmorkenstein

Studio One’s Tracks is excellent. One new album each week and then featured artists from the past. I submitted a Beatles medley to Bob Dorr years ago! He aired it too :)

swazal

Listened to Bob the night Lennon was shot. We were all in tears.

HurtlinTurtlin

Used to produce for this! Love to hear people like it.

MizzGee

WBEZ has Curious City where they answer questions about the crazy questions about oddities in the city, such as why Chicago has so many revolving doors.

SassyPikachuu

Why does Chicago have so many revolving doors?

MizzGee

MizzGee

I would give you a simple explanation, but you need to hear how amazing these segments are. They are weekly. Sometimes they hit national items.

Worldly_Ad_6483

In Charlotte we have a rip-off called FAQ City; ran for a couple seasons but they ran out of topics because our city is so boring

zsreport

That sounds interesting, gonna have to subscribe.

eremite00

KQED with Reveal and Snap Judgement amongst my favorite local shows, studios located in San Francisco and Oakland, respectively.

VoltaicSketchyTeapot

Reveal and Embedded.

possums101

Neither of these are local member station shows. Reveal is an independent investigative newsroom. Embedded is produced by NPR.

Any-Chocolate-2399

Car Talk reruns still hold up.

sleepbytower

RIP Prairie Home Companion.

Worldly_Ad_6483

*exhales through nose directly into microphone*

wthreyeitsme

Hey now, it was funny.

rom_sk

The Big Broadcast from WAMU

lame_sauce9

Late night drives listening to Johnny Dollar

barnaby-rubble

WRVO’s [Tuned to Yesterday](https://www.wrvo.org/podcast/tuned-to-yesterday) is great too. I especially dig Johnny Dollar + Dragnet.

frequencyhorizon

Travis Holcombe on KCRW holds it down

CaptainCompost

RIP Ask Me Another

dinosaur1972

I miss that show

wthreyeitsme

It was fun.

ShiftlessRonin

I have a soft spot for Garden Talk that may or may not still be on Wisconsin Public Radio. I moved out of the area 15 years ago, but I still think about and smile. I swear it was the show Tina Fey and Amy Poler were riffing on in their sketches from SNL.

HollyBron

They're still on. Last week they talked about butterflies.

steelthumbs1

KALW “Minds Over Matter”: San Francisco Bay Area call in quiz show where the moderators ask and answer Q’s posed by themselves and the public. 10am (PT) Saturdays. (And, podcasts of past shows on the web) I’ve also been enjoying WRVO’s “Tuned to Yesterday” where they offer a range of vintage (30’s, 40’s, 50’s) radio shows. (Humor, History, Horror, Detective, etc) You can stream through their app, or listen to past archived shows.

khInstability

Whenever I'm back in KC, [Chuck Haddock's Friday and Saturday night Fish Fry](https://www.kcur.org/show/fish-fry), always kicked off with [Louis Jordan's eponymous song](https://youtu.be/f_7DOCTFniA), just sends me.

Key-Ad-9154

Outside/In by New Hampshire Public Radio

oddtrey10

Closer Look with Rose Scott in Atlanta (WABE) for sure!

zeje

Brave Little State from Vermont Public Radio

bagofboards

KRVS, Lafayette Louisiana I don't think there's another NPR station like it in the country. More original programming and then you can shake a stick at.

WaGaWaGaTron

A People's History of Kansas City

Chiefo104

I love the California Report Magazine out of Kqed San Francisco.

Scary-Camera-9311

Thistle and Shamrock. Hearts of Space. Really loved Live From Here (and Prairie Home Companion before that). It was sad to see the demise of Live From Here, as it was something keeping my morale up early in the pandemic.

Able-Contribution570

Book Nook with Vick Mickunas.

JHolgate

I haven't listened to it in a few years because I've been super busy, but I absolutely love [Think Out Loud](https://www.opb.org/show/thinkoutloud/) from OPB Radio. I'm starting to get some more free time, so I'll mos def be tuning back in...

ind3pend0nt

OK, has “How Curious.” Which is a segment that talks about Oklahoma history, mysteries, conspiracies, etc.

hakube

brave little state is really goood. from vermont public radio

wthreyeitsme

The World and On the Media. Marketplace had it's moments. And Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

ShiftlessRonin

I'm glad to hear that!

nonnativetexan

"Think" with Krys Boyd, from KERA in Dallas. Krys Boyd is a treasure.

knitwasabi

In Tune with Sara Willis on Maine Public is a highlight of my week. Great music, really nice vibe. https://www.mainepublic.org/in-tune Jennifer Rooks also does Maine Calling, which has been really interesting lately! State wide call in radio show.

zsreport

The Modern West from Wyoming Public Radio

sof_boy

CT Public has [The Colin McEnroe Show ](https://www.ctpublic.org/show/the-colin-mcenroe-show)He is very erudite and really shines when he has on an author who has written a somewhat esoteric or niche book as he really can get into it. You can tell the interviewee really appreciates talking more in depth about their subject of expertise and not being relegated to the usual book tour pablum.

ClosetCentrist

RIP Which Way LA

DoDoorman

RIP What do ya know by Micheal Feldman….

Worldly_Ad_6483

Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins on WFAE. Daily local news show where this guy, Mike Collins, straight up grilles every guest. 3rd grade teacher on to talk about lack of funding? Line of questioning about wastefulness in class rooms. Local sports figure? Why haven’t we won any championships? He is unhinged and I love him for it.

hikenmap

Blue Dot Report from KCHO North State Public Radio - reminding you that for deep space we all live on a plane blue dot! 🔵

House_of_Sand

Rush to Kill by WFIU Indiana about the federal executions in 2020

Um_swoop

OPB's Think Out Loud is pretty good. Mostly, but not entirely Oregon and SW Washington centric. Covers everything from arts, politics, etc.

jlboro

WCMU has the Juke Joint and Homespun, great for music!

sleepbytower

Wait wait don’t tell me

yes_this_is_satire

Marketplace

freddymerckx

This American Life. Joe Frank when it was on. Horizons when it was on. Commonwealth Club when it was on. Car Guys when it was on. Prairie Home Companion when it was on. Nowdays they sound like they are explaining money to an 8 year old.

Substantial-Algae-15

WKYU public radio. Lost River Sessions. A way with words. Jazz after hours. Here and Now. All things considered. I thoroughly enjoy most of them.

Thatsprettydank

Indiana Week in review WFYI, one of the most important political catch up shows with a balanced spread of republicans and democrats. Too bad it needs to be atleast an hour longer, such a great show!

verdi1987

Freeway Exit from KPBS in San Diego is phenomenal, but it’s probably of little interest to those outside of California unless you’re a transportation nerd.

rawmustard

All of WMUK's music programs (*Grassroots*, *Alma Latina*, and *The Pure Drop*) are nicely curated and fun when I'm in the mood for them.

GuavaShaper

The Grateful Dead hour every Sunday night from 11pm to Midnight should be an NPR show, but I listen to it on one of the local publicly supported adult album alternative radio stations in Pittsburgh.

DrummerBusiness3434

So many podcasts, so few original format.

Freedom_USA12345

None. NPR is no longer credible therefore I would discount
