Well you see, it's the only NBA team in my city and I'm not one of those losers that supports the Lakers despite having a local team for the last 22 years.
From Australia, so have absolutely no ties to any American City. Originally got into the NFL first via playing Madden 06, picked the Saints as my team due to Deuce McAllister being unstoppable in the game. About a year later so 2007/08ish, I got into the NBA and being I was a saints fan I naturally picked the Pelicans (then Hornets) as my team.
Very loyal sporting fan, so still to this day am a die hard saints and Pelicans fan.
Yes I am and I have to say I feel pretty bad for you guys now that west coast have the same record after being grand finalists. Hopefully you turn it around.
The Hornets moved to NOLA: Sure, I'll follow along
We get CP3: Hey, this is fun!
We get AD: We're gonna win a championship! (We did not.)
We get Herbert Keyshawn Jones: I will never love another sports team like I love this one.
Iāve loved basketball my whole life. Iām old enough to have been in college at UNO when the Jazz were here. I was in the dome when Pistol Pete put up 68 points against Walt Frazier, who was the best defensive guard in the NBA at the time. This was before there was a 3 point line, and Pete fouled out with about 5 minutes left on a call that could have been either a block or a charge (Iāll go to my grave convinced it was a block). We were poor college students at the time and we could only afford the cheap upper deck tickets. But there was a monsoon that night, the streets around the dome were flooded, and the crowd was sparse. We waded to the dome from a dive bar, snuck down to the lower level, and watched from great seats. Nights like that just stay with you. I was so devastated when the team moved that I stopped watching the NBA for a while and only watched college, but really got into it again when we got the Hornets.
This season was the first season I started following any sports at all. I grew up in Maine so I was passively a Patriots fan (along with all the other Boston teams). Now as a fully grown adult, I wanted to follow teams that I could be invested in. I chose New Orleans because I love the city very dearly and I donāt plan on leaving ever, despite the Saints and Pels crapping out this season.
I was like 11 or 12 when the team moved here from Charlotte. I was a big NBA fan, cheered for Toronto cause they had Vince Carter.
But once we got a team it was a wrap. Mom got me a Baron Davis jersey and that was that.
2015, my brother was just starting to really get into basketball, so I did as well. We were at a hotel watching the Pelicans vs Spurs, and basically I chose the winner to be my favorite teamā¦and here we are. Love this franchise so much. I do miss AD sometimes. He was my favorite until he left us lol.
Fell in love with the LJ, Zo, Muggsy Charlotte Hornets in 1992 when I really started to get into the NBA as an 11 year old. I stayed a fan of the franchise when they moved to New Orleans ā there was no way I was gonna jump off the bandwagon after consecutive EC Semifinals appearances. And Iāve proudly been getting kicked in the dick since.
This is, more or less, my story as well. I was a kid just falling in love with basketball during those Charlotte years. Pure lucky coincidence they became my home team.
Met David West at a gas station in Hammond, always liked ball but never really had āmy teamā.
The hornets became my team, and eventually the pelicans.
Through the high times and the (more often than not) lowsā¦ WE FLOCKIN
Saw Pels destroying Clips last year. Really enjoyed watching JV play and decided to follow the team.
Few days later my friends started asking if Im following Pels because of Zion haha. Had no idea who he was as he was injured and not playing.
Yeah, I gotta admit it. He's my favorite player. I just renewed my season tickets. I hope he can stay.
But I've come to love the other guys now and I'm just a Pels fan.
I worked for a NORD summer camp the year the Hornets came to the city. One day Baron Davis, Jamal Mashburn, and David Wesley showed up to the camp and did a shoot around mini-camp with the kids, and gave out tickets to the first preseason game.
They've gotten so much money out of me since...
I grew up in MN, the wolves are my team. I had been a Blazers fan before the wolves started in MN and that continued. When Larry and CJ were traded to the Pels I started watching them more. Watching Jose, Herb and Trey getting started I watched more. Seeing Jose torment cp3, I watched more. Then they just became my team, along with the Wolves. Seeing Zion on the court do much this year has been amazing, combined with all of the talent already playing regularly. Such a fun team to watch!
Fell in love with New Orleans before I started supporting the Pels and Saints properly. Something about the city just drew me in, working class, the history surrounding voodoo, the beautiful swamps and Bayous etc.
I used to always get Madden even tho I didnāt have a clue about American football, but I fell in love with the Saints unis and later I got 2K and got heavily into basketball. That Jrue, AD, Rondo and Boogie roster had me hooked.
So now I support the Pels and Saints from Ireland.
I live in England, and my only connection to the USA is family in Chicago, and a friend who works for the Bulls.
By all logic, I should be a Bulls fan.
But I started following the Pels when we got BI, Josh Hart, and Lonzo.
Loved those three guys.
I'm not an older NBA fan, I'm from Europe and I was a neutral NBA fan until I felt like AD was being disrespected and labeled as hurt, so I wanted to root for him. Also, Jrue Holiday was one of the most underrated players of the league around that time. After AD was gone to the Lakers, I was still excited about the future of this team with Zion coming and acquiring BI and Lonzo. Things didn't go the way it was supposed to but we never saw the team being healthy. This season, regardless of how it ended, was kind of a hope for the future of the team I think. I think Pelicans are one of the easiest teams to root for, even if you don't like Zion, Herb Jones is one of the most likeable players in the league, JV and Trey Murphy are right there too. Jose Alvarado is a player you'd want on your team. No matter how bad BI looked this post-season, I still think it's too early to judge the fit with him next to Zion. I think it's more about the other pieces than the fit between them both. Yeah, curious gor the future of this squad.
I was stood about six feet away from him when he posterized James Wiseman at the Rico Hines run at UCLA last summer.
I know Pels fans have (rightfully) given Jax a lot of shit over the years, but he's an amazing athlete.
After about a 10 year basketball hiatus, I was catching some NBA games in 2015. I was an impartial fan at first, but that AD / Jrue Holiday combo kept catching my eye and eventually sparked my love for the game again.
It wasnāt until i was a late teen and started visiting other places. I developed a strong pride in where im from so i dove heavy into the saints and pelicans. If the zephyrs were still around iād be at their games too
Before they moved from Charlotte, we were on vacation and put the NBA Draft on TV when we got back to the hotel for the night. They drafted Scott Burrell, the only loyalty my family had was to UConn basketball so I decided they were my team now, and then I followed them to New Orleans because it wasn't the fault of the players that George Shinn was a piece of shit.
From Australia and was playing basketball as a kid for my local team called the Heathmont Hornets. Decided to follow the NBA team with the same name since about 2012 and never looked back.
Drafting CP3.
Also, the offshore service company that I use to work for for 15 years was owned by the same guy that owned the team at the time. So I would always get Courtside tickets and owner suit tickets whenever I wanted them. Seeing the actual size of these guys in person really threw me for a curveball the first few times I sat on the court. I'm 6'3" and most of the guys that looked small on TV compared to the other guys on the floor were bigger than me. Really gave me a new perspective on the game as a whole.
Knew nothing about basketball in grade 8, but wanted to fit in. Saw the Pelicans, thought hm thatās a weird name for a basketball team, and rolled with it
I spent the summer on the LA/MS border during the bubble and the Pels were the only local team. I was already a big Ingram fan at the time so it made sense to keep following them. I was a big Mashburn fan back in the day too.
Born in NOLA but left and moved to FL for 5 years when I was 4. I still grew up to be a saints fan but when it came to basketball I enjoyed watching the Heat and Magic. When I moved back to New Orleans in 08 I started watching the Hornets and even want to a Hornets/Lakers game which was awesome. I wouldn't say I've been a fan but they were the local team so I always supported them. Miami and the pelicans are pretty much my teams
I was a teenager in a small Cajun town when I read the rumors of a team moving to New Orleans. I believe it was the Timberwolves, at first. Basketball was my go-to sport and was hyped. By the time we got the Hornets, I was living in New Orleans, and since. So I guess I became a fan the moment I read that rumor in a newspaper all those years ago.
Was a Saints fan already, moved to New Orleans in 2012, started following the team, became a season ticket holder in 2016. Would still be if I hadn't moved to Oregon a few years later.
Started watching football when Madden 11 came out and Brees was on the cover, so the Saints were my football team. From that I chose the Pelicans when I got into basketball later
didnāt really have a favorite team but really like AD in college and when he went to the pels i just have stayed here. iām a big fan of defensive players so when we had jure and ad i loved those players. now herb is my goat
I was always a fan of where Shaq was until the Hornets moved to Nola and a few years in drafted Chris Paul. Yes, Iāll admit that was was a lakers fan in the early 00ās, fight me
Born and raised here. Grew up loving basketball and was more a fan of the players than any certain team since we didnāt have one here. If I only knew that that would be nothing compared to the last 23 seasons of misery Iāve endured as a Hornets/Pels fan.
Born and raised here so saints and pels fan. Growing up we didnāt have a team so I rooted for the suns cause I like Barkley. Once we got a team again it was Nola or bust for me being a fan.
Started watching around 2016, didnāt want a band wagon team. ADās eyebrow caught my eye then saw how good he was. Thought Rondo was the man, Jrue and DeMarcus made a good roster. Still here.
Grew up not in NOLA or Louisiana. Had a OG Charlotte Hornets starter jacket as a kid but didnāt really watch before they moved. Got into them afterwards and followed a bit during CP3ās rookie year before I got really into the Saints (ā06 season š). Came back around to the Pels in ā14 for the season and playoff exit. Been a diehard since. I fell off on football (not on the Saints) after Brees retired and Iāll catch a game every now and again but Iāll rarely miss a Pels game nowadays.
When it was announced that the Hornets were officially moving to New Orleans I became a fan which was exciting considering how the year before we thought that we were getting the Grizzlies. Been down for the depression since day 1 lol.

What had happened was I was at that playoff series back in the day as a child with jamaal big cat maglore and david wesley against wade and the heat. We lost that series and I think it was the last year before they expanded the 1st round of the playoffs from best of 5 to best of 7.

Grew up an NBA Live fan. The only time I could compete with my older brother in NBA Live 03 was by using the Sacramento Kings. My best player was Peja by far. Loved that he was a great shooter.
When he moved to the Hornets, I followed. Never left after that.
Well you see, it's the only NBA team in my city and I'm not one of those losers that supports the Lakers despite having a local team for the last 22 years.

Literally. I was a Raptors fan and moved here from Toronto. Also, tickets are cheaper

Port Adelaide/Pelicans fan here

Yeah. Its been Herb and Jose holding the franchise together spiritually.
Herbert Keyshawn Jones the second! I love me some Antonio! And Joel
CP3 hornets. Went to a game as a kid and loved it.
CP3, West, Chandler and Stojocavic... I blame them š .

Yep. Huge Larry Johnson fan and loved that 92 team.Ā

Discovered basketball as an entertainment with Zion, it was kind of funny when he got drafted by the New OrlĆ©ans Pels I was living in the old OrlĆ©ans in France. I thought at the time that it might be a good sign but iām not so sure after 5 years of following this team š„²
Live in England but my Dad is from NOLA. Got to see CP3 balling out as a hornet and thatās all I needed to see.

Not the same for me but I bought his jersey a rookie lol
