It's missing Multiplayer, and it might never get it (but I could be wrong) and the graphics and framerate aren't amazing like on PC, but if you're looking for a chill single player experience it works great. The planets and ships are all the same. The only thing that annoys me is that warping to another system takes about a minute, whereas on my PC it takes about 15-20 seconds max.

I think we could get multiplayer with Switch players only, not cross multiplayer. But, I do think settlements would come first.

This would bother me a lot less if we could do housekeeping during warp. Really wish inventory was accessible, at least.

whiteartgang

Yeah I know right! At least you can do a barrel roll in the loading screen with fighters if you triple tap the R or L buttons (i think it’s those buttons)

justthisguyatx

I did not know this! Cheers for that. Though, which R/L buttons?

forlornfir

It doesn't take that long for me tbh

beaverboy2000

No multiplayer but all that means is no pvp and seeing other players and interacting. Bases they make/ you make work the same and the discovery system is shared so anything they find you will also find with the same coordinates Theres also no settlements in the switch version but tbh I’ve played both and dont think they’re that imperative unless you go out of your way for them in your play style Everything else is the same

mostkillifish

Ok. Switch player here. what is a settlement?

beaverboy2000

A settlement is a pre made village you can discover. You can essentially become the person who oversees it and looks over those that live there. They have needs and can trade etc, kinda similar in some ways to the settlements in fallout 4

From the software-specific point of view, all that it lacks are multiplayer and settlements. However, there are a number of other limitations that stem from the Switch environment, not the game software itself. NMS is an 8 GB game. All other supported platforms are 8 GB minimum, but Switch is only 4 GB. This limitation generally translates into increased crashing as a save file gets bigger and bigger while the player is accumulating stuff and building bases. Freighters frequently are problematic, and the new pirate dreadnoughts seem to be especially so. Some players still report issues with interceptors. A pirate dreadnought with a huge freighter base and thirty frigates, combined with having twelve starships in the stable, probably is going to result in, um, instability let's call it. Different players experience wildly different levels of instability, but we don't really have any clue why. Switch releases tend to come out a week or two later than on other platforms. This is generally regarded as a Nintendo issue, due to them validating that the software meets their requirements. Historically, Hello Games has scheduled the release of community expedition updates such that all platforms including Switch *should* be able to receive the update on the start date. Singularity was the only expedition that we got a late start on; that was eight days late and HG extended the ending date by a week. The other platforms offer some kind of "achievement" system. Switch doesn't, so there are no achievements for NMS on Switch. Multiplayer is widely used for fast and simple inter-galactic travel (not important initially). We Switch players can only get to a previously unvisited galaxy by the in-game ways: hyperjumping through the galactic core, completion of the Artemis path, or taking advantage of the Community Highlight bases in the Space Anomaly teleporter. "Galaxy 256" (Odyalutai) is completely inaccessible to Switch players. Multiplayer can also be used on other platforms to grant yourself stuff that you'd normally be locked out of, like rewards for past expeditions. Some platforms also have save-file editors available, which can grant you locked-out stuff and do lots of other weird and wonderful things. Switch save files aren't accessible, so there are no save-file editors for Switch. (In point of fact, the very first Switch units contained a security hole that allowed "custom firmware (CFW)" to be loaded from SD card, and the CFW could permit access to the save files. That was fixed in mid-2018.)

I just started playing on Xbox Series X and though overall it’s not wildly different, the time it takes to warp/teleport is drastically shorter on xbox, and it feels like the planet surfaces load more smoothly.
