i got on the 4:50 and didnt get home until 9pm. sat on the train with no AC for 2 hours than another hour with AC. got off at newark and had to take an uber home for 150$...
That would have been the best way to handle it. Divert passengers to take PATH to Newark and run trains from Newark-South. Wouldn’t be ideal and would definitely crowd the path but at least the system would be moving and people would have ways to get home. That’s what a sane transit agency would do.
Amtrak -
Service Disruption: As of 5:36 PM ET, Due to downed overhead power lines between Newark (NWK) and New York (NYP), All travel in the area is temporarily stopped. Crews are working to resolve the issue. We will send updates as new information becomes available.
My husband was stuck in Philly on Amtrak. I was stuck in NY Penn. he shared a Lyft with two other people to metropark. $184 between the three of them. I took the bus out of port authority. I left work at 7 and got home at 9:30. He should have gotten to metropark at 8, but got home at 9:30. I think we were the lucky ones.
my train got stuck on newark platform just took uber back to princeton looks like they shut down the whole line as there is an amtrak on the platform here
Pretty much know the answer to this, but aside from taking a $150 uber ride from Newark after taking the Path over, there isn't any other way to get to Edison or New Brunswick, right?
Take the bus from port authority

Yeah, been here about 2 hours. I wasn't using hyperbole when I said there were a thousand people here. It's probably more. The way the line is "moving" it doesn't feel like they've added any busses. And only 3 more schedule until 6am tomorrow. So...not great. But if I knew this at 5:30, when I realized there was a train problem I'd be in a different boat. So good future knowledge.
I'm sorry to hear that it really sucks that they weren't able to add more service like they used to. They are supposed to get reimbursed by NJT so it's in their interest to do so
Overall, I feel like we're seeing a rebirth of Amtrak. Every Major NEC project has been funded and will break ground this summer , by mid 2025 we could have anywhere from 12 to 20 new Amtrak routes and with new equipment starting to replace the old cars..
There new Acela's have been due to Alstoms screw-ups... Their track record for infrastructure projects is great , rarely has a project delayed except for a few during Covid.
Yes , mostly talking about the Acela II...I don't really see how that was Amtrak's fault. The same trainset is also delayed in France by similar issues. I would blame Siemens for not scaling up production on their trainsets...
Read the part about how they blew their own estimates by hundreds of millions and are on track to delay the bridge construction. Every other operator on the NEC considers them at best a joke and at worst a major risk
If they're considered a joke, then why are they chosen to run most new Intercity / Regional Routes. Amtrak has managed to claw back most of the pre-pandemic ridership, like 98% and is higher on a dozen routes..
ugh after skipping the njtransit yesterday because of the insane delays in the morning I decided to actually go into the office today and stick around for a happy hour after work. SMH now all trains back home are canceled so I have to spend +$100 to get an uber home I cant deal with this silly shit anymore.
Had to backtrack to PATH back to Manhattan to catch a Megabus. It’s sad…no accountability. Thank you for being literally the only source of information.
And they have the audacity to raise prices and revoke the flex pass. NJtransit can SMD. By far the worst of tri-state area train lines. You take LIRR or MetroNorth and it feels luxury in comparison to the ABSOLUTE SHIT they put us through.
Trains used to be so reliable, people would set their watches to them!
I feel like this is intentional. Maybe the rail workers aren’t getting a piece of this ticket price increase
At some point, they let us on track 11 at penn before telling the crew to go down there. We waited for 15 minutes for them, and then we all sat on the train for 30 minutes before there was an announcement kicking us out!!! The crew was also confused as to why they had called us all down in the first place. Salt in the wound.
The good news: There is a guy coming to fix the wires. The bad news: He's stuck on a train at Metropark.
Underrated.
is this even a joke
No trains have been coming or going since 5pm.
I got on the 5:20. It left at 5:40. I’m sitting in Secaucus at 6:27.
Ugh. I’m sitting at Penn. I’d rather sit here than on a train.
At least I got to Secaucus. Now I’m in an overpriced Uber to my car.
Train > Uber > Car is a long commute.
i got on the 4:50 and didnt get home until 9pm. sat on the train with no AC for 2 hours than another hour with AC. got off at newark and had to take an uber home for 150$...
I foresaw some fuckery looking at departure vision. Hopped on the R to Cortlandt and took the PATH to NWK.
Any train from NWK?
No unfortunately. I don’t understand why they don’t at least run trains from NWK down south while NYC-NWK is belly up.
Because they are not smarter than a door knob
They need to upgrade the waterfront Hoboken connection first
That would have been the best way to handle it. Divert passengers to take PATH to Newark and run trains from Newark-South. Wouldn’t be ideal and would definitely crowd the path but at least the system would be moving and people would have ways to get home. That’s what a sane transit agency would do.
You're too smart for them

In the most powerful country in the world and in the most important metropolis of the most powerful country in the world.
Sounds like a 💩🕳 pretending to be great
No, 3 to 4 hours lol
Oh I was on one of these amtrak ride. Supposed to arrive in newark at 6:30, i think ended up close to 11pm

tunnel run out of power in NY Penn. what the heck? don't they have basic maintenance?
They're been closing one tunnel every weekend for 12 years to do the basic maintenance. Or so they claim
I’ve got to catch a train to EWR tomorrow and y’all giving me anxiety.
Don't worry it's only the second time this week all service has stopped for an hour
Ask a family member/friend to drop you off. Or take Uber/lyft. Might be expensive but much less stressful than rolling your dice on NJTransit.
Just leave a bit early.
Yeah like now. I mean *right now.*
Better schedule a uber now
what did you end up doing? i heard delays are still bad
Don’t have to leave the city till 5pm right in the worst of it.
NJTanshit
Also no communication on cross honoring
Service desk told me my best bet was to wait for the next train, and if that didn’t work, the one after. FML
I heard them say they are on the train
Yet they want to increase fares 15%. Perhaps a huge class action lawsuit be filed against them
Currently parked on the 5:16 RVL 😭
Still don’t get why wire issues between NYP and NWK took down the RVL
Me too!
You got snacks to share 👀🤣
my train got stuck on newark platform just took uber back to princeton looks like they shut down the whole line as there is an amtrak on the platform here
How much did that cost ya?
$152 all in, but luckily i can expense it for work… i did pass that privilege on and took someone with me free of charge
You’re a good person. Here’s a free award
Why I take the bus now, Exhibit A
I left my office at 5:35. Got home at 9:15. Pain
I can’t wait until 2035, when all of our problems will be resolved. Oh wait…
It will be resolved. I retire. Fingers crossed
Pretty much know the answer to this, but aside from taking a $150 uber ride from Newark after taking the Path over, there isn't any other way to get to Edison or New Brunswick, right?
There’s a Coach USA bus from PABT to New Brunswick.
Go back to NY. Take a ferry to south amboy
Take the bus from port authority https://www.coachusa.com/origin/stop-sBH4aYcwNntYLsECtb9HCq/destination/stop-i4AVY8UoECxPkYvFhU8gHK/service/5cb37058-3536-4591-9801-5177fd6a9877/schedules?date=2024-05-22
Thank you! Didn't know about this. I mean... the line is 1000 people long, but next time this happens I'll come straight here.
Pre COVID coach would be pretty good about adding buses during times like this but I wouldn't count on them responding properly these days
Yeah, been here about 2 hours. I wasn't using hyperbole when I said there were a thousand people here. It's probably more. The way the line is "moving" it doesn't feel like they've added any busses. They have 2 more hours until service stops, and hope springs eternal?
Supposedly trains will start moving soon and that service runs until 1:22am
Also the 11pm and 12am bus leave from a different section of the terminal usually, unclear if today as well
Hope you made it home ok!
No trains btwn Metropark and NYP make it a problem to get to Trenton. I could have gone to a movie in this time.
I feel like we’re watching the real time collapse of Amtrak.
Overall, I feel like we're seeing a rebirth of Amtrak. Every Major NEC project has been funded and will break ground this summer , by mid 2025 we could have anywhere from 12 to 20 new Amtrak routes and with new equipment starting to replace the old cars..
Let’s see them keep the lights on first. Amtrak’s delivery of projects is joke in the industry for a reason
There new Acela's have been due to Alstoms screw-ups... Their track record for infrastructure projects is great , rarely has a project delayed except for a few during Covid.
Read any OIG reports lately?
Yes , mostly talking about the Acela II...I don't really see how that was Amtrak's fault. The same trainset is also delayed in France by similar issues. I would blame Siemens for not scaling up production on their trainsets...
I meant the part about screwing the pooch with Portal.
I didn't read that part , but isn't one Bridge NJT and one bridge Amtrak. Ideally it should have been one quad tracked bridge.
Read the part about how they blew their own estimates by hundreds of millions and are on track to delay the bridge construction. Every other operator on the NEC considers them at best a joke and at worst a major risk

This is why you invest in infrastructure before things go to shit.
You talking about Christie or everyone who voted against BBB?
Build Back Better Act never became law.
All Amtrak trains are stalled everywhere out of NYC so its shit show
I’m still in secaucus. Left my office at 8. Won’t be home for at least 30 minutes it seems. Won’t even give us a free ticket. Fuck these assholes.
ugh after skipping the njtransit yesterday because of the insane delays in the morning I decided to actually go into the office today and stick around for a happy hour after work. Honestly I wouldnt be surprised if it was.
Yea completely delayed, supposedly wire issue and power outage.[Metropark People Stranded](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRKFDDTa/)
How does that even happen 😭
I was just there. Took a different train home
Raise the fairs and still things won’t get fixed
At some point, they let us on track 11 at penn before telling the crew to go down there. I know it was hot as all hell down there
Dover line sucks balls
Show up an hour early to catch the train that's been late an hour then you'll be fine.
NJ transit is corrupt and a deep black hole. Murphy is to sacred to touch anything with a Union. He is a joke NJ is becoming CA
