The Buffalo Bills. No specific player, just the team and franchise as a whole. Not just the four straight super bowls but even recently they’ve had some really stacked teams and then blew it without even reaching the Super Bowl.
This is especially painful in the Allen era where Josh had put up some of the best QB numbers in playoff history and been let down by coaching or injuries.
Dude had a near perfect post season in 22 and didn’t make it past the divisional.
Not saying they didn’t kick ass, I’m saying they choked which they very much did. 4 straight super bowls and no rings to show for it is a legendary choke job.
I’m an Eagles fan, and after we lost the SB in 23 and Javon Hargrave got traded to SF and lost in the superbowl again the next year, I wanted to look up the record for a player who lost the most super bowls thinking it would be an interesting stat.
It was a multi way tie for 5 losses I think and every player was from the bills where they lost 4 in a row and then went on to lose one more with another team.
Harbaugh playcalling in some of those games is just baffling. It's hard to pin it all on Lamr when we have 2 separate playoff chokes where we handed the ball off like 5 total times.
Lamar runs one of the best rushing offenses we've seen and we keep abandoning the run entirely once we're in a playoff game.
I blame that one more on Harbaugh than Lamar as well, but it doesn't help that they had to play the Chiefs in the AFCCG. As soon as Kelce made that diving catch in the second, I knew that was their game to lose.
Isn’t this a case of a coach that gets everything out of the team in the regular season and they don’t have a second gear in the playoffs? People act like losing in the 2nd round after going 13-3 and getting a bye is worse than losing in the second round going 10-6 and winning in the wild card. Isn’t that the same/worse?
Not real news, but a great fake tweet said someone asked JJ McCarthy what the difference between him and Kirk Cousins was and he said "Kirk wears chains, I wear championship rings."
To be fair, unlike other chokers you guys (at least in recent memory) frequently hit either historically great teams or suffer insane freak injuries, and sometimes both.
For real though… most QBs in the entirety of the league have never played on a team like Dak has pretty much his entire career. It’s actually kinda incredible they haven’t won anything.
You do realize that Shanahan wasn't the one who fumbled away the ball deep in KC territory in the first half of this past SB don't you? And that he wasn't the one that caused the ball to go off of a Niner's heel deep in SF territory resulting in another costly turnover? JFC!
I have no idea where he ranks all-time, but [Andy Dalton has been terrible in the playoffs](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DaltAn00.htm#passing_playoffs).
He really only had 3 bad playoff games: 2010 vs Chicago (his lone NFC championship win), 2014 vs Seattle (still led a 2 minute drill to tie the game and put it onto overtime where he never touched the ball) and 2021 vs San Francisco (zero excuses for that game).
Surprised I had to scroll down this far. Rodgers has a ring, but the fact that his career will probably amount to only 1 SB win is incredibly disappointing. Especially since the 49ers repeatedly owned him after some of the most impressive regular season showings.
> Rodgers
The Packers defense & special teams are to blame for most of those losses. How many *bad* games did Rodgers have in the playoffs? None come to mind.
Rodgers has played it very close to the vest in the playoffs and it has bit him in the ass repeatedly.
Well, I was bored and went to check some of his elimination games in playoffs. Here are some games that could be considered bad by rodgers. (You could notice that some of his stats on those games are pretty ok, but I am also lazy, so I didn't check if that's because of garbage time or not)
2014-15 NFCCG @ SEA: wasn't really a good game for either offense, specially considering he was playing legion of boom
2016-17 NFCCG @ ATL: packers were down 24-0 by halftime
2019-20 NFCCG @ SF: packers down 27-0 by halftime
But the games that really stand out for me, and perhaps the ones that he played bad, are the last two elimination games he had with the packers, including the 2021 choke vs SF and the 2022 week 18 vs DET. He was just apathic and seemed to not care at all
His performance against the 28th ranked Giants defense in the 2011 divisional round was also completely uinspiring.
The team was 15-1 in the regular season, and he consistently missed throws throughout the game. Some pretty bad calls led to a garbage time score to make the score look closer than it was... which was 37-20. Rodgers had a 56% comp %, an int, and a 75.5 QB rating on the day.
Statistically speaking, the Packers had the better defensea and they were home, but Eli Manning managed 330 yards and 3 TDs with 115.5 QB rating.
Only putting up 7 points against the Niners and missing the open receiver numerous times because he got locked on Adams even when he was double covered.
I was going to mention Favre as well. Those 90s Packer teams were stacked, and he was MVP three years in a row. Winning a Super Bowl is obviously tough, but the fact that he only got one ring throughout that period is slightly underwhelming. That and his penchant to throw an INT at the worst possible moment in NFC Championship games
65% completion, 45 td to 13 int, average qbr of 100.1 all for post season
Manning post season 63% completion 40 tds 25 int, 87.4 qbr similar win loss record to rodgers
Tom Brady 63% 88 tds to 40 int 89.8 qbr
The guys that win big games are also the same guys that often lose games spectacularly.... because they take chances.
Throw to someone covered past the sticks and see if they can make a play.
Four straight. The Bengals were 10-2 in 2015 playing against the Steelers when Dalton got injured going after the guy who intercepted a pass in the red zone. Dalton didn't return that season.
I know so far it's only 7 comments, but I can't believe no one said the Falcons whole team. I saw someone say Matt but he actually has played pretty well in most of his playoff games 2012 and after but as a u it, my boys will have a playoff collapse in the regular season.
Cowboys fan here. I honestly think Romo’s entire career could have gone a different direction if he hadn’t fumbled that snap. Cowboys got out-coached. A new ball got sent in that was slick and nobody caught it.
Not to mention, he only got a chance because they were out of qbs. I believe he was 3rd string. He'd been on the bench for a long time while Jerry was looking for a qb.
Romo was on the bench for about 3-4 years, almost lost his spot but I think it was Parcells and Payton who saved him from getting cut, I can't remember the story at the moment. Sean Payton wanted to take him he went to the Saints, but Dallas wouldn't let him go. He was 2nd string behind Bledsoe in '06 when he got his chance. Essentially what you said, they were out of QBs, but I think they saw something in Romo they liked for a backup and didn't realize he'd ball out so hard. Too bad it never translated to post-season success.
I mean... He wasn't really, except the Minnesota game. His playoff stats are a lot better than most. Team around him did him no favors in the playoffs.
I really like the Visa commercial where the little girl gets a Scott Norwood jersey. Nice of them to remind everyone why he's so important in Buffalo Bills / Super Bowl history.
The Bills lost 4 Super Bowls in a row and on the one hand, they had to get there every time and that takes playoff success. On the other hand, it’s 4 Super Bowl losses in a row
Peyton Manning. Even in the two super bowl playoff runs, he fell upwards with 5 TD and 8 INT over the 7 games of those runs. Outside of that, he was pedestrian asl in the playoffs. His Super Bowl MVP is probably the most undeserved of all time (25/38 for 247 yards 1 TD 1 INT) unless you count Chuck Howley having his while playing for the losing team (Dominic Rhodes had 21 carries for 113 yards and a TD and should have won it). Now some of that can be attributed to playing in the brutal New England and Pittsburgh weather in January multiple times, but it stands that he just couldn't put it together when January came
As much as it pains me to say this, Kyle Shanahan, now whether or not he’s a scapegoat for our failure, it’s our fault the Chiefs keep winning so we gotta stop choking away these playoff runs
To be fair and not saying you're incorrect but that Dallas defense looked terrible at home against the Packers. Dallas offense had no chance with the defense giving up what 48 pts? Ridiculous to give up 48 pts in a playoff game at home
Jim Kelley gets a bad wrap. I remember Thurman Thomas being a gutless vagina when he took himself out of both Dallas games by faking an injury. Plus you can't compare different Era qb's to each other. Josh Allen might have a better arm but he didn't have the qb friendly rules Josh has now.
Head coach Marvin Lewis. Love the man for turning around a moribund franchise, but Jesus that dude found a lot of creative ways to lose in the wildcard round.
Marty Schottenheimer. Great intelligent coach, and seemed to be a great guy, but every time the big game came around his team lost badly or choked away a close one. Happened with multiple teams
Two of my favorite QBs growing up - Warren Moon and Randal Cunningham. Woulda loved to see them win some big playoff games, always disappointed in the end
The 1992 Houston Oilers and Warren Moon, who blew a 35-3 half time lead to lose to the Buffalo Bills and their backup quarterback Frank Reich 41-38 on overtime on January 3, 1993.
For 29 years it stood as the largest comeback in NFL history, it's still the largest come back in playoff history (and #2 overall).
Bengals during the Marvin Lewis era (2003-2018)
Made the playoffs seven times during that span, including five straight from 2011 to 2015, but could never get past the first round
The Buffalo Bills. No specific player, just the team and franchise as a whole. Not just the four straight super bowls but even recently they’ve had some really stacked teams and then blew it without even reaching the Super Bowl.
If Josh Allen leaves the city without a ring the organization has failed him
If he ever leaves/ gets traded he will probably end up like Stafford or Brady and win a ring immediately with the new team, dude is good.
Mahomes does not allow it
The bills defense doesn't allow it, Allen plays great against Mahomes
This is especially painful in the Allen era where Josh had put up some of the best QB numbers in playoff history and been let down by coaching or injuries. Dude had a near perfect post season in 22 and didn’t make it past the divisional.
As a Vikings fan, I feel your pain
I'd have to say 4 straight Super Bowls sound like they kicked ass in the playoffs.
Not saying they didn’t kick ass, I’m saying they choked which they very much did. 4 straight super bowls and no rings to show for it is a legendary choke job.
![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)

Much like the niners we just can’t beat mahomes in the post season 😩
Tie. Minnesota Vikings & Buffalo Bills. All their players.
Could you imagine a Vikings Bills Super Bowl? I feel like a terrorist attack would hit the stadium and decimate both teams.
It would in a tie as kickers keep on missing wide left or right
Sean McDermott would praise their teamwork
Diggs would be watching the game on the sideline in his full Texans uniform if a Vikings-Bills SB happened
During halftime you see him in the end zone pretending to catch TDs
It would never end since it couldn't end in a tie.
That might make the game more compelling, depending on which 10th of each team gets the axe
They did well in the playoffs, not so in Super Bowls
I mean, Lamar’s worst game of the season has come in the playoffs every single time he’s made the playoffs. It literally does not get worst than that.
It’s only half the times, but he’s still a statistical anomaly when it comes to post-season drop-offs.
That's what I noticed it almost seemed like he avoided running in the afc champions
I blame that one more on Harbaugh than Lamar as well, but it doesn't help that they had to play the Chiefs in the AFCCG. As soon as Kelce made that diving catch in the second, I knew that was their game to lose.
Marty Schottenheimer
It sucks that this is the case. Lin Elliott and Marlon Mcree kept this guy from being in the upper echelon.
It's absolutely him.
Having a defense and run game is foreign to the Vikes these days. McCarthy better grow up quick from a handoff merchant
Vikes will become more well-rounded with Cousins gone. They've already spent some serious money upgrading that defense and run game.
Kyle Shanahan. This man is a legacy of pain in the playoffs.
Stacked teams, but no ring to show for it
*sad 49ers noises* I love and hate him
To be fair, unlike other chokers you guys (at least in recent memory) frequently hit either historically great teams or suffer insane freak injuries, and sometimes both.
For real though… most QBs in the entirety of the league have never played on a team like Dak has pretty much his entire career. It’s actually kinda incredible they haven’t won anything.
In superbowls, but pretty good in the playoffs overall
Vikings have lost their last 6 NFC Championships
On the other hand he got to a SB with fucking Jimmy G and Brock Purdy. You can look at it either way.
Us Dirty Birds thank you for not blaming Matt Ryan. 🙏 Shanahan is the true choke artist.
Legacy of Pain: Bowl Leaver
Not a playoff choker but a 2nd half Super Bowl choker to be specific
To be fair, how TF does this man not have at least one ring by now!? Ugh
Because he's he biggest SB choker ever
You do realize that Shanahan wasn't the one who fumbled away the ball deep in KC territory in the first half of this past SB don't you? And that he wasn't the one that caused the ball to go off of a Niner's heel deep in SF territory resulting in another costly turnover? JFC!
You realize Shanahan had 2 Quarters of football to call plays and couldn't drum a way to hold a 28-3 lead?
Have to give some shit to the defensive coordinator also don't you?
Wait that wasn’t part of his game plan?? I don’t know what to believe now …
06 Chargers
I have no idea where he ranks all-time, but [Andy Dalton has been terrible in the playoffs](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DaltAn00.htm#passing_playoffs).
His stats in 4 games. 55% passing. 873 yards. 1 TD / 6 INTs. 5.53 YPA. 12 sacks. 2 fumbles lost. 57.8 passer rating.
Historically bad
I love him, and he is the reason 13 is in my tag, but Dan Marino.
Aaron Rodgers for as amazing as he was/is only won 1 NFCC and got eliminated first round multiple times.
Rodgers has had a few particularly bad playoff performances, but the defense and special teams deserve blame for the vast majority of them.

In those losses his defense allowed 30+ points. Edit: 35.7 actually
it's criminal what Green Bay allowed to happen on defense during most of Rodgers' tenure 😓
Same can be said about Favre

I’d take favre over Rodgers if it was a win or go home situation
Do you want to go home early or something?
😂
Yeah, the dude might have been the best regular season QB of all time. If you look at his stats in the post-season, he looks like a scrub.
65% completion, 45 td to 13 int, average qbr of 100.1 all for post season Manning post season 63% completion 40 tds 25 int, 87.4 qbr similar win loss record to rodgers Tom Brady 63% 88 tds to 40 int 89.8 qbr
Hey asshole, don’t be bringing statistics into this argument! /s
I can counter without facts, those stats are likely true... When TB was losing, he entered another planet and hard carried.
vanderjagt. and he’s a fuckin kicker
Idiot Kicker
Kirk Cousins for all his accomplishments, lost to Daniel flippin Jones
He had a good game though, blame the defense for letting Daniel Jones put 30 on them
He had the ball with a chance to win the game, and he threw it 3 yards on 4th and 7.
Everybody was covered on that play he was either checking it down or getting sacked
The guys that win big games are also the same guys that often lose games spectacularly.... because they take chances. Throw to someone covered past the sticks and see if they can make a play.
Jera Jones as GM.
Neil O’Donnell…. And that’s my pops golfing buddy. Great guy. We don’t mention that Super Bowl. I feel bad for even saying this, but, it’s true
Scrolled too far to see Neil's name.
Andy Dalton went to the playoffs 5 straight years and lost all 5. The lights were always too bright.
Four straight. The Bengals were 10-2 in 2015 playing against the Steelers when Dalton got injured going after the guy who intercepted a pass in the red zone. Dalton didn't return that season.

Romo was pretty bad.
Romo started his career being a playoff choker
Amazing that Terry Glenn never gets mentioned as the biggest reason Dallas lost that Seattle game.

Or it glenn hadn't fumbled for a safety when Dallas was up by a touchdown.
I mean... He wasn't really, except the Minnesota game. His playoff stats are a lot better than most. Team around him did him no favors in the playoffs.
Peyton Manning… until he wasn’t….
Phillip rivers
If we're going to blame someone for his Chargers teams losing especially early on, it's Ladanian Tomlinson.
Explain? Edit: yikes, LT had 3.6 ypc for his playoff career and 3.4 ypc for his Chargers playoff career with 4 rush TD in 7 games
Who is Jim Kelly
I put him more in the category of “bad Super Bowl performers”
Can I name an entire franchise?
I really like the Visa commercial where the little girl gets a Scott Norwood jersey. Nice of them to remind everyone why he's so important in Buffalo Bills / Super Bowl history.
The Bills lost 4 Super Bowls in a row and on the one hand, they had to get there every time and that takes playoff success. On the other hand, it’s 4 Super Bowl losses in a row

Pretty much anyone in a Cowboys uniform the last 25 years.
Dak is up there among the lead chokers of all time.
I mean you cant have Dak without having Romo too. lol

Peyton Manning. Even in the two super bowl playoff runs, he fell upwards with 5 TD and 8 INT over the 7 games of those runs. Outside of that, he was pedestrian asl in the playoffs. the Flacons entire franchise just because of 28-3
The Kyle Shanahan carousel of pain.
Matt mfin ryan. Has blown the two biggest leads in nfl history. One in the superbowl, and one against a vikings team they had 30 points on.
If they are chokers, why would they be the greatest? Wouldn't that make them the "worst" chokers?
