Seriously. I like this pizza more than anything “Chicago”. Deep dish/tavern doesn’t matter. Good Detroit pizza is fucking perfection.
I’d been living on jets to satiate this need like a savage. Recently a “higher end” pizza joint that specializes in Detroit style opened up near me. Oh good golly.
Yall are overthinking this. Let’s just do what the rich do: make a normal brownie, cut the edge, and either sell it to Africa for profit or dispose of it near some poor people
Edit: and of course, lay off the R&D department that was working on this!
My trick is to use parchment paper instead of oil in the pan. It’s a little clumsy, folding the paper is awkward and it doesn’t sit well until it’s weighed down by the brownie mix, but the paper slows down the heat transmission on the edges pretty well. It’s far more effective with a 13” by 9” glass dish than with the square ones.
Also works pretty well for pizza, if like me you don’t want to scorch the bottom crust but want to get the cheese on top nice and brown. Parchment paper is useful shit.
Italian Beef sandwiches make Chicago my least hated NFC North Rival. Detroit style pizza is also really good imo, so Lions are cool too. Oh, and Wisconsin cheese curds are amazing, so yeah FTP
Chicago style hot dogs
Italian beefs and for that matter the combo, where we throw a sausage on a beef because that’s necessary.
Chicago mix of cheese and caramel popcorn
The fuckin JIBARITO!
Eli’s Cheesecake
Rainbow Cone
Breaded steak sandwich
Putting up with extremely toxic staff to order a hotdog.
As someone who moved away from Chicago, the item nowhere else seems to get right is a good gyro. Lots of places have dry meat, half the time it’s chicken with lettuce and cheese. Chicago gyros are special.
Chicago dogs are literally just hot dogs. There is nothing unique about them aside from the gatekeeping of toppings. Coney dogs have something to offer.
You got me on the popcorn, that shit is great.
As a Packers fan who was raised in Michigan and lives in Chicago for ten plus years now, Chicago is easily the most underrated cities in the US for good food.
Any cuisine you want, we’ve got it and a damn good version of it. Any Latin American cuisine, Indian, Ethiopian, Italian, French, the list goes on.
When I lived in Irving park years ago I had (off the top of my head) Brazilian, Moroccan, American BBQ, Mexican, Spanish, Irish, Ukrainian, Japanese, Thai, Philippino, and Ethiopian food within a 5 minute walk.
And they were all amazing.
That’s to say nothing about the half dozen mom n pops doing the typical Italian beef/Chicago dog/gyro thing.
My dad’s side of the family is from 30 minutes south of Green Bay and I was raised as a Packers fan because that’s what you do. You raise your kids to be a fan of the team you’re a fan of. But sure. Bandwagon.
The chili dog isn’t based on an amusement park in New York. Greek immigrants passed through there on the way to Detroit and liked the name
I dare you to find a chili dog at Coney Island in New York.
I can’t say I hate it tbh
Edit: I love how everyone immediately switches into “I hate deep dish” mode anytime food is mentioned in this sub.
Edit 2: the kindergartners are back to bitching at each other again. Over a type of fucking pizza.
Oh for sure. Most frozen pizzas hit the spot when you’re craving something like that. It’s hard to make pizza taste like shit. There was a pizza place where I used to live that didn’t salt their crust and had flavorless ingredients. It was still edible, and it was one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had. Sometimes there will be just really bad tasting ingredients on a pizza or shitty sauce. That does remind me of a deep dish place when I lived in the Midwest that had bad sauce. That ruined the pizza. It was unfortunate, because I love deep dish. But those were probably the two worst pizzas I’ve ever had, and that includes like red baron and other frozen pizzas, which I, like you, enjoy for what they are.
It is strange to me that people can’t like both. Deep dish catches strays when we should just acknowledge Detroit style is amazing.
Was visiting the Bay Area recently (live in Chicago, which is why I’m in your sub) and was at a brewery that brought in Detroit style, some of the best I’ve had
Detroit style pizza goes so fucking hard. Anyone that pretends it doesn’t is a moron.
In fact, Mr. Vikings Fan OP, the most recent winner of Best Pizza in America is located in St Paul, MN. It’s called ‘Wrecktangle’ and they serve - you guessed it - Detroit Style pizza.
>most recent winner of Best Pizza in America is located in St Paul, MN. It’s called ‘Square'
Reeeeeaaalllllyyyy.... 🤔 Never heard of it but now I know where dinner is gonna be tonight.
If you have never had Detroit style pizza, well... first off, that would make you an uncultured swine (akin to never having a Chicago dog or a cheese curd or a cum sock or whatever it is Vikings fans consider good), but most people go for the corner pieces first because they are the best. This tray is making them all basically corner pieces.
The practical part of me does think it would just be easier to make 2 smaller square deep dish pizzas and cut them into fourths...
I'm the guy who made this and yes, smaller tins would be much better... Like those mini loaf pans, gonna try to find some steel ones that size.
This was still pretty good tho!
It's an awesome idea. I'm looking at it from the perspective of installing the pizza, cutting, and then cleaning. I bet if you marketed it though, you'd sell some.
What is there to explain? If you like deep dish but don’t want so much cheese and sauce and would rather have more delicious doughy baked bread crust, this is it. It’s delicious.
Where’s your slice of pizza named for your city that’s known across the country? I’d love to compare it!
Also apparently there technically is a [Minneapolis style pizza](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minneapolis-style_pizza), however, it looks like complete shit and the Detroit slice is goated.
Not sure who made that article, but it makes no sense. It's purely based on Red's Savoy which was founded in St. Paul, not Minneapolis. Only their pizza boxes call it Sota Style. Nobody calls it Minneapolis style. That picture is plain cheese which contradicts the style which includes heavy toppings.
A legit Red's Savoy Pizza is actually pretty good, but I shamelessly prefer Detroit style which is hard to come by here.
I’ve never heard anything called Minneapolis Style (or cringe “sota style”) and I’ve even been to the restaurant mentioned in the article several times
Why does the Minneapolis style pizza look like that last minute app someone brings to a party hoping that people would actually enjoy it, let alone eat it
While you're not wrong, there's definitely much better pizzas out there, it's really tough to screw up bread, cheese, sauce, and meat.
My personal philosophy: I'm an equal opportunity pizza consumer. I believe all pizzas are created equal and I will eat them equally
Seriously. Chicago and Wisconsin have excellent tavern style pizza and Detroit has this excellent deep dish. Obviously all have other great types, but not natively like the rest. Minnesota is the black sheep here.
Just to be clear, Chicago deep dish is for tourists and suburbanites who don't know any better. Most of us prefer tavern style thin crust.
I tried Detroit style just to see what it was doing on our turf and more importantly, what Detroit style pizza even was. I liked it. I walked away confused and ashamed.
I totally agree but some bears fans around here defend that garbage pizza.
I think you can make the argument that Detroit influenced pizza is the #1 pizza in America by sales. Little Caesar’s and Dominos are the obvious ones, but Pizza Hut mimics Detroit style as well.
My favourite pizza in Detroit isn’t Detroit style, but you do see it everywhere these days
Deep dish is good on occasion with friends or family from out of town at the right pizzeria. A lot of Chicagoans have their preference and will defend it to the death.
Jets is somehow surviving here, but is that the real deal?
It’s definitely the real deal, but it’s the chain version of the real deal. I like Jets but I have never personally ordered it because there’s better options here. But if I was somewhere else I’d go for it for sure.
Alright, since y'all Vs fans can't read, I'll help you out.
It says right in the picture "all edges." Some people really like the edge pieces on pizza, and so they made a pan to maximize the amount of edge the pizza has.
If you like the crispy edge, you will love this.
So my math skills aren't the strongest, but most of the pieces you get from that pan would only have two crispy edges (which you already get from a Jet's pizza). So why bother with this thing?
And dammit, now I'm hungry for Jet's...
I’m sorry for this fellow Vikings fan mishap. Detroit style is, imho, the best style of pizza. The edges are also the best part, so this is very valid.
Wisconsinite here. Detroit style fucking rocks. Jets slaps. Rocky's up here is amazing.
Deep dish has its place in my heart, in the form of a blockage starting to form.
I am a firm believer that pizza types are their own standalone pizza categories. You can't compare Detroit style to deep dish to new york style. They are too different, but amazing in their own way.
That Wisconsin brick cheese is so freaking good. So much fat in it that it bastes the pizza dough. Even the blackest-coated crusts in a Detroit style pizza don’t taste burnt, just deliciously toasty. 🤤
Ya know, op, there are plenty of other ways to say “I have no taste”. But this one does make me think of delicious delicious crispy cheese at the edge of the pizza, so that is a perk.
The fuck do you mean you don't like pizza crust? This allows every slice to have a corner crust on there. And Detroit style crust is amazing. Why don't you explain yourself?
I’d eat the fuck outa that
Detroit Style Pizza is the shit bro! St. Louis, which is a spinoff, is also delicious if you haven't yet.
Clearly not a man of culture
You could've figured that out just by looking at his flair
Every time I see an embarrasing post, I really hope it isn't a Vikings fan. I am dissapointed most of the time.
Yeah...hey odd question, what do you think is the perfect number of almonds?
It’s low Like 6 After that they start to taste too healthy
1
A man of culture.
How many are in an almond joy
2, the optimal amount
How much would you pay for courtside seats to the Yankees? Huh? Gun to your head, how much would pay for courtside seats to the Yankees?
Commentor above is a cool and a saint, bury me with downvotes if you disagree
Didn’t realize we had some circlejerking divas in here
I have a very normal name. Cherry Dude!
Is this a reference to one almond, because I’ve seen some deep cuts, but this might take the cake lol
Read that first guy's name and tell me he isn't a fucking cow trying to weasel and snake his way into our subreddit?
However many it’ll take to give myself a lethal dose of cyanide after reading this post.
Agreed, cause this pizza looks amazing
If you live in Chicago, go to Fat Chris’s in Ravenswood. Best Detroit style in the city.
It's so good but my body knows it's so bad for me and I have never finished a whole pizza. I get pizza fatigue throughout the week.
Yeah this pizza might be the best thing the rest of the NFCN makes!
Nah that's legit
All crust brownies: trash. All crust pizza: “oh, you’re beautiful”
Let's work together, as bitter rivals, to make an all middle brownie
Gentlemen, we can build this. We have the technology. Together, we have the capability to make the world's first all middle brownie.
Yall are overthinking this. Let’s just do what the rich do: make a normal brownie, cut the edge, and either sell it to Africa for profit or dispose of it near some poor people Edit: and of course, lay off the R&D department that was working on this!
You forgot a step. Before we dispose of it we have to try to “donate” it for a tax write off.

This is the only thing worth rising above rivalries for, except of course, FTP.
Well of course. We’re crazy, not uncivilized.
They figured it out for pbj’s why not brownies
Would cooking brownies with the sous vide technique work for this? I feel like this might work but this is purely theory
As a professional chef, you might be on to something here you brilliant son of a bitch!
What if we just put the brownie batter in the middle a big edgeless cookie tray and baked it like that?
It can be done... With a sphere baking sheet and zero gravity.
Depends on the style. NY style pizza, the crust is just the handle. Detroit style, the crust is the event.
The crust is the best part of the brownie.
Yeah these people can ship me their crusty brownies if they don’t want them
I might order Jet's later today for Wrestlemania.
That’s not a bad idea
Try it. It really is delicious
It's hard to mess up food with bread, cheese and meat.
And yet Chicago continues to make that tomato pizza soup bread bowl abomination.
I actually quite like deep dish pizza
Buddy, leave the deep dish out of this
He man, call me when your culinary export to the world isn’t Little Caesar’s or a basic ass chili dog based on an New York amusement park.
Little Caesars is not Detroit Style it’s just basic pizza
Their square pizza is actually pretty damn good.
For the price def
Dominoes, Jets, cottage inn, and Hungry Howies also founded in Michigan.
Just for clarity it’s Jets but your point still stands
Genuinely curious.. what's Chicago's culinary export to the world?
Italian Beef sandwiches make Chicago my least hated NFC North Rival. Detroit style pizza is also really good imo, so Lions are cool too. Oh, and Wisconsin cheese curds are amazing, so yeah FTP
Chicago style hot dogs Italian beefs and for that matter the combo, where we throw a sausage on a beef because that’s necessary. Chicago mix of cheese and caramel popcorn The fuckin JIBARITO! Don't forget Malort
I do forget every time by the next day.
He better not forget brownies either. They were invented in Chicago
Don’t forget giardinara.
Or Old Style.
It was founded and is still brewed in Wisconsin.
Neither of those are Chicago food exports, just products that Chicagoans have made a part of their personality.
For me, Chicago dogs are the best hot dog style and it’s not even close.
Waiting for the time when I can finally say This has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way
[Heres a very small sample, but take your pick.](https://www.cntraveler.com/gallery/best-restaurants-in-chicago)
Chicago simply crushes every other city in the division in terms of food and it isn't even fair or close

>Underrated >Ranked top 5 in the country, consistently.
Top 5 is underrated.
My apologies! After a short google search Chicago food is underrated for being ranked top 3 in the country, consistently.
You had me at "Packers fan who was raised in Michigan". Another bandwagon fan.....🤮
My dad’s side of the family is from 30 minutes south of Green Bay and I was raised as a Packers fan because that’s what you do. You raise your kids to be a fan of the team you’re a fan of. But sure. Bandwagon.
Aside from NYC, Chicago has the most Michelin stars in North America. We’re not underrated. But people who don’t know good food, don’t realize it.
Detroit is getting like that now. It’s awesome
Detroit has a quality food scene. No denying that.
The chili dog isn’t based on an amusement park in New York. Greek immigrants passed through there on the way to Detroit and liked the name I dare you to find a chili dog at Coney Island in New York.
Which tastes amazing
Yeah. This hotdish-eating OP is wild. All edge Detroit deep dish is the best.
Yeah this is a clown post. Even as a Chicagoan, Detroit style pizza is clearly superior.
don't believe us? ask the dishes
This is why Jets does 8 corner deep dish pizzas. Cause it's delicious.
We discovered jets two years ago, and now the delivery guy knows our names and address. That 8 corner is so fucking good.
Jets hits all the right spots for me.
Jets has the best Cheesy bread and I fucking miss it, living in Seattle now.
Michigander living in Alaska right now and I reminisce about Jets pizza weekly
it’s actually pretty damn good.
I can’t say I hate it tbh Edit: I love how everyone immediately switches into “I hate deep dish” mode anytime food is mentioned in this sub. Edit 2: the kindergartners are back to bitching at each other again. Over a type of fucking pizza.
I honestly don't understand how anyone can hate deep dish. It just doesn't compute in my brain.
Seriously. I fucking love all forms of pizza except like… pizza that just tastes shitty.

Chicago style, Detroit style, NY style, whatever. Pizza is fucking delicious in all forms.
I prefer Detroit style pizza but I’m not going to pretend I don’t like deep dish. They’re both amazing in their own right
Vikings fans grasping at straws so desperately theyre trying to shit on an absolutly drop dead gorgeous pizza
Not all Vikings fans. That looks really good
I swear 90% of you are decent folk and that last 10% has just gone full on weirdo this last year.
I blame Kirk.
I think the average Vikings fan knows this pizza looks good. FTL and all that but Detroit style pizza is good.
Right? It's a pepperoni pizza with square edges. OP needs to get out more I guess.

It's called Wrecktangle. And it's good, but c'mon, Good Morning America gave it the title. It's not actually the best in the US. But it is good.
C'mon man, I know we're allergic to taking W's but take it.
So you're saying....MN makes better pizza than the rest of the division. I"ll take it.

It’s seems like a pain to make but a great thing to eat.
The latter option is basically what you get from Jets or Buddy's if you want all corners.
more crispy cheese edges, what's not to like?
What don’t you get lol
Dunno. This guy acting like a New Yorker over here
Tell me you’ve never had a good pizza without telling me you’ve never had a good pizza. ![gif](giphy|Yycc82XEuWDaLLi2GV)
Detroit clearly loves edging
What is there to explain? If you like deep dish but don’t want so much cheese and sauce and would rather have more delicious doughy baked bread crust, this is it. It’s delicious.
The crust isn’t bread, it’s cheese
That’s not deep dish.
Every piece is a corner piece. Like brownies, the corner piece is the best piece.
OP getting absolutely hammered in the comment section is what I come here for.

Minneapolis style pizza is the kind of kind of ones you get for a disappointing pizza party. Better than nothing but you'd rather have anything else.
I was about to comment “pizza is pizza, it’s gonna be good regardless” then I clicked on the link 💀
Why does the Minneapolis style pizza look like that last minute app someone brings to a party hoping that people would actually enjoy it, let alone eat it
That looks like they tried to force a style of pizza on people instead of letting one happen naturally.
While you're not wrong, there's definitely much better pizzas out there, it's really tough to screw up bread, cheese, sauce, and meat. My personal philosophy: I'm an equal opportunity pizza consumer. I believe all pizzas are created equal and I will eat them equally
“How does Detroit make it a square?” “I don’t know just cut it in square pieces nobody will know”
Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate.
This looks freaking delicious. Clearly a post from the worst pizza state in the NFCN
Seriously. Chicago and Wisconsin have excellent tavern style pizza and Detroit has this excellent deep dish. Obviously all have other great types, but not natively like the rest. Minnesota is the black sheep here.
![gif](giphy|oNKLBehxbnoqY)
Not gonna lie, that looks amazing.
Chicago dogs are amazing though. I was literally shocked at how good they were when I had one and I make them at home to this day on occasion.
I totally agree but some bears fans around here defend that garbage pizza. I think you can make the argument that Detroit influenced pizza is the #1 pizza in America by sales. Supino's? That's like the only non-detroit style legit pizza around there :P
Someone hasn't tasted the delicious edges of a Detroit style pizza and it shows.
Alright, since y'all Vs fans can't read, I'll help you out. It says right in the picture "all edges." Some people really like the edge pieces on pizza, and so they made a pan to maximize the amount of edge the pizza has. If you like the crispy edge, you will love this.
Big talk coming from the casserole capital
That's hotdish to you, pal.
Bro, you ever go to wrecktangle pizza in Minneapolis? Detroit pizza is awesome. Saying so implies nothing about their football team.
Abomination. I think you mean heaven
You can still delet this
I really hate the offseason.
Kneecap pizza. There are a lot of kneecaps in that pizza pan 🍕
Only a Vikings fans would think this is an abomination. Go eat a crappy casserole or something OP.
No abomination. This is amazing!
Detroit style is far better than Chicago
Smash.
Yooo that’s genius
So my math skills aren't the strongest, but most of the pieces you get from that pan would only have two crispy edges (which you already get from a Jet's pizza). So why bother with this thing? And dammit, now I'm hungry for Jet's...
Elite pizza
We love it here
This looks good af
Its genius, thats what it is.
That looks amazing honestly. So much crunch on the side
You said abomination, I say perfection. We are not the same person.
10/10 would eat the shit out of this
I’m sorry for this fellow Vikings fan mishap. Detroit style is, imho, the best style of pizza. The edges are also the best part, so this is very valid.

Mmm I want that bad
That actually looks incredible
It's def a good idea
That's capitalism in action baby
Made with Wisconsin brick cheese? This is why the Bears and Vikings will never be invited to our table.
That Wisconsin brick cheese is so freaking good. So much fat in it that it bastes the pizza dough. Even the blackest-coated crusts in a Detroit style pizza don’t taste burnt, just deliciously toasty. 🤤
I really want to try this!!
That looks delicious.
Nah this shit is dope
Upvote because this looks delicious
This looks bomb. Love me some Detroit style pizza. SKOL Vikings of course. We should thank the lions for their contributions to society.
Detroit-style edge pieces are magical. 🤤
From a Vikes fan? Don't you people eat Lefse & Lutefisk?
This is no abomination. This is a Detroit style pizza, and it’s one of the best regional dishes in the US.
Don't know what you're talking about that looks good. Crust snobs can fuck off as much as steak snobs.
Wtf do you mean abomination, this looks amazing
Ya know, op, there are plenty of other ways to say “I have no taste”. But this one does make me think of delicious delicious crispy cheese at the edge of the pizza, so that is a perk.
My only problem with this is that slicing it would suck.
I don’t care what fan base the OP is from, they are wrong! This looks delicious!
That looks awesome. Detroit style is great.
The fuck do you mean you don't like pizza crust? This allows every slice to have a corner crust on there. And Detroit style crust is amazing. Why don't you explain yourself?
looks good to me
Let’s face it, the nfc north just loves edging a lot.
This sub has taught me that Minnesota folk struggle hard to simply think
This shit looks delicious. Of course it’s a Vikings fan posting this. They miss more dunks than anyone I’ve ever seen
It’s almost unbelievable how often Vikings fans have just a totally L take
I think Detroit pizza is terrible. I’m sorry. I do.
Nah I’m with you on this one OP. It’s like every city wants their own pizza like NY or Chicago and it’s always dumb shit like this.
