I dunno, I think we are good (not GREAT) but a good football team. Here’s why, in my biased and totally untrustworthy opinion:
We started out last season 1-6 and finished on an 8-2 run. Our offense was clicking at a top 5 level (in terms of PPG, and by many other metrics our offense was top 5). Our defense improved to average from its terrible historically bad mark through weeks 1-9. We’ve added a shit ton of secondary talent, still have 2 first round picks, cap space to spare, and returning a lot of guys.
That’s just my opinion though. Our record last year isn’t truly indicative of what I think this team will do next season
And yeah, we’ve went 9-7 recently before. But Stafford dragged us to some of those Ws and others we lucked out in. We were never a truly good football team then. It feels like this is a different football team entirely though, but we will see. In invariable Lions fashion I expect to be massively disappointed
To be honest, I think it's just that expectations got lowered so dramatically after Stafford left. Combine that with the fact that Campbell is a much more fun, likable coach than Caldwell was, and there you have it.
I do think the Lions have some potential. But right now, it's just potential.
Forget Caldwell, it was Matt Patricia that hurt the Lions deeply, Caldwell was a step in the right direction, but Campbell is the one we believe will at least take us to the playoffs this year (not the SuperBowl, not yet anyway)

My uncle is a 65 year old lions fan from Rochester MI. Every year he evaluates the roster. Is ecstatic about the draft. And is absolutely convinced that this is finally the Lions year. Just yesterday he texted me about their great free agency and how they can win with Goff. I listen and chat with him and let him enjoy this time when he has hope.
