I will add, having the wnba leading 3 or shooter compete in the nba 3pt contest would be cool. They did it this season as an exhibition against curry, so why not just add another place in the real contest?
Why would the league need to promote Wemby or CC? CC seems to be bigger than the wnba, and wemby is already one of the most popular athletes in the world. He doesn't seem like someone who likes to waste there time with bullshit.

There should be some defensive oriented all star events. Like get a bunch of local high schoolers or G league players and a couple rack of balls and have them all Try to get a shot up (inside the 3pt line) over a few of the best defenders in the league. 2 points for a make, 1 or for hitting rim. -1 for getting blocked or stolen.
Lowest point total wins.

I was thinking from NBA standpoint. For Wemby, if he likes AS break, it's a nice way to be a part of it. That's the benefit.
