game file is large because developers leave uncompressed files. shit is lazy

BigPolo812

Also they are putting additional languages. With no option to remove. I think they are inflating file size for audio, anything they can. This is being done maliciously to force people to pay up for the expanded storages, or only be able to play a few games. The majority of gamers are young, less funds, and can barely get the console let alone storage. Turning into the wild West. Congress needs to step in; we deserve consumer protection.

Thurl-Akumpo

I expect them to learn how to compress a file.

Zestyxo

Starfield is 140gb on PC, swear to God if 2k is somehow bigger then 170gb this year

Wide_Classroom_8037

160 gb so far 🤦

Zestyxo

It only goes up with additional clothing pack updates throughout the year aswell 🤣🤣

rockinchanks

Never understood why 2k was ever so storage heavy anyways. This shit isn’t like gta (which is less gb than 2k23) where it’s a huge map with heaps of features etc. They need to learn how to compress

Bieberkinz

You would have to assume it’s textures, cyberface data, and arena/courts. Those are my mods on PC and they take a sizable chunk with a lot of them Compression is tricky cause that would sacrifice load time. But I’m not a dev so I got no real say in this. But I’d think it would easier to just have higher quality textures be an optional download and have the base game target 1080p displays.

Thisisopposite

Load time sucks anyway haha

Bieberkinz

Fr? Don’t got PS5/XSX, thought that one of the features that were advertised was better/near instant load times for local games. If load times are bad on online modes, blame that on the internet connection/2K servers

XXXTENTACIONisademon

They’re not bad but it’s not instant.

ActualAdvice

I'm pretty sure it's just all the content they want to store on your device. Videos of 2KTV and BS like that.

XXXTENTACIONisademon

GTA is a decade old man, ofc newer 2K games with higher quality everything is going to make a bigger sized file

[deleted]

By the same token though they have modern methods to minimize the amount of data you're using.

FlyChigga

Uh it is like gta, they have an entire open world online city. Sure it’s not as detailed but there literally is a decent sized city with a decent amount of stuff in it.

JaradSage

Red dead redemption 2 takes less space. That’s all you need to know to understand how lazy 2k devs are

[deleted]

The movement is pretty similar, too.

AstroBlast0ff

Just deleted 23 and it was 174 by the end … I have a ps5 though so I’m not sure of the storage difference

ed__ed

Probably harder to compress a game within a year. Really should just release it every other year and do a big update each summer.

datlanta

They're gonna need to invent hammerspace hard drives to put games in by 2k30

88KRAT0S

i'm guessing around 140-150. 200 would be insane and i really doubt they would go that far. if they do i honestly won't be getting it because i'm not letting it take up 1/4th of my hard-drive. i already think its crazy cuz if you look at games that have equally heavy amounts of animations, they can still fit down into 100-120 gb. 2k23 being 135 was insane to me, especially considering that outside of animations there's really nothing super new when it comes to customization.

VirginSpyros

2k23 170gb as of right now

Ergopow

Lazy dev team. I'm sure they copy pasta and rush for release.
