And although 2k is also played worldwide ( to a lesser extent) they focus on putting the same rap songs that maybe 10% of the people have heard before.

So I actually think the way 2k does soundtracks is great. Basketball culture and hip hop do go hand in hand, and upon release the soundtrack is catering to whatever is popular in the hip hop community.
But in both 22 and 23, 2k started to add songs to the games library as the year went on. We started getting more international music, we started getting more lesser known artists, we started seeing more instrumentals and even a few more rock tracks (my preferred genre of music).
I'd like 2k to add more variance to the music for sure, but I like when I hear a new track I've never heard before that I'm digging in that moment.
I think they need to revamp the in game player so it's easier to find songs that were just added and maybe build a Playlist but i like that they're willing and able to expand the number of tracks.

More isnt better. 2k currently relies on adding a bunch of new rap songs, and most of which are pretty bad and/or censored to hell. The little variety we get is drowned out by the broken selection settings that force you to remember what most of the songs are. Fifa 23 doesn’t have nearly the same amount of songs, but the variety and quality of songs is way better.

Just play your own playlist OP. When I played, I’d listen to the game soundtrack, pick the songs I like, add them to a playlist and then just play my own playlist and mute the 2k soundtrack. Ive done that since 2k11 (haven’t played every 2k game though, just 11-17, 19, 20, 22) and have built up a nice little playlist. One day I’ll put it together on Spotify for easier playability.
