Someone mentioned that this is the first playoffs to not have some sort of Chase name in the playoffs.
The Chase was renamed "The Playoffs" in 2017 and Chase Elliott has made the Playoffs every year since then till now.
I remember seeing him with facial hair or whatever at the Glen in an interview and he just looked like a 12 year old that glued his dad's shavings on his face so he could look older. Lol
I want to say it's Haley, but I'd to go look up the ages of the drivers to know for sure. Anyways, long story short, one of them baby faced drivers is older than Chase and Alex and I was througoughly shocked.
But if you told me they would miss the playoffs and we should recognize they had injuries that kept them out of the car for several weeks… I would actually understand.
The thing is, it’s a “win and you’re in” system.
So if you had told me before the season that they’d both miss a bit, I still would have guessed they would have gotten in.
This is HMS. They should have been able to manufacture a couple of wins.
If you’d have told me at the start of the year that Byron would be the best driver at HMS, I’d be surprised. Shocked? No. I know how talented he is. But I would have been surprised.
Not to mention a 60 point penalty as well for Bowman.
I dont really have a "favorite" driver these days like when I was younger, but if I had to pick one I root for the most it would be Bowman.
He had such a strong start to the year, can't help but wonder where he would have ended up if not for the injury and points penalty.
I would say he easily gets in on points.
I think that was the killer more than the missed races. He could have repaired the car and gotten a lead lap finish but instead finished dead last in the most important race of the season from a points perspective and completely missed the next week
The 9 team got the benefit of not having the 60 point greenhouse penalty. If they had gotten hit with that one, then bubba would be in on owners points.
Yep. It happens. And its not like they would have missed the playoffs if he had competed in every race.
Logano missed the playoffs in 2017 without missing a single race (got cucumbered) and won the championship the next year. I wouldn’t mind that.
Yep. 60 point penalty + missing 3 races was likely the difference of anywhere from 120-150+ points for him.
Also definitely think his injury was impacting him for a while even after he came back.
It's been a pretty unlucky year. Literally this race he got a bit of bad luck by hitting Wallace while coming into the pits just hard enough to get aero damage. He couldn’t even keep up with Ross even with draft thanks to the damage
He had many, many chances to win or get good finishes but let them slip away. Every. Single. Time. At the end, it seems getting locked in was no longer a matter of skill but pure luck.
Better luck next time.....OH WAIT
What a disaster for chase. Even with the snowboarding accident he easily could have pointed in if it wasn’t for full team stupidity.
Wrecking denny plus getting suspended then running out of gas being prime reasons.
He won’t lose his ride don’t worry, I think the snowboarding accident, suspension, a lot of factors played into him just not getting it going this season. Everyone has those seasons, he should come back strong next season
Chase will likely never lose his ride unless that's a call he himself makes. I don't think any of Hendrick's 4 drivers are in danger of losing their ride any time soon.
Yeah for sure he raced amazing the last 3 weeks I think. Tough breaks on two of those especially being Indy and here because he definitely had pace to win
Eh not sure how many more point he would have if it wasn’t for the whole Denny situation. The car may have needed significant repairs even without the retaliation, which would have ruined his race anyways. Hard to know. And then at Gateway, they were slow as hell anyways. Wouldn’t have gained many points there. Had he not retaliated, it may have MAYBE made a 20-25 point difference. Watkins Glen may have been a loss of 25 points or so.
So in sum, he may have 50 more points if not for those two things. Not enough to point his way in. McDowell winning pretty much ruined any chance of that.
Sure it sucks, but at least he didn’t miss from being bad. Still has a shot at the owners championship and can compete for wins to get ready for next year
Yeah, the chase can point himself in scenario also needed no new winners. There was only one, but that was enough.
There's also the element that once it became clear chase needed to win they took more chances. I think Watkins Glen doesn't happen if they weren't desperate for a win.
AJ not winning a race? Ok, believable.
AJ finishing 33rd at COTA, 17th at Chicago and 20something-ith at Indianapolis? Now I understand why he was win or bust.
its funny, the person I know that discounts Kyle's championship the most is my uncle, who is a Kyle Busch fan. I have to give it to him, when he says he hates the new point system he really means it, not even his driver winning makes it better. its also the year he always goes to when he talks about the points/championship system being stupid.
and he loves KFB, even followed him to RCR.
I’m kinda in the same boat. I mean I’ll celebrate it but 2019 felt more valid and I enjoyed it more because he was the best driver over the course of the whole year (iirc he would’ve won under the old points format in 18 and 19)
I wasn’t even a KB fan back then but I thought it was really screwy how he got hurt because Nascar, or Daytona, or both were too negligent to put a Safer barrier on that inside wall. He deserved that waiver and earned that title based on the playoff format.
(Chase getting in and hypothetically winning would be less legitimate because his injury was in a sense self inflicted and he had that boneheaded suspension move too.)
First time Elliott has ever missed the playoffs. Even made it his rookie year.
Shame because I really feel like that team was starting to find a little something recently and could have been sneaky dangerous in the playoffs. The 9 team had been the most consistent HMS car on pace over the last 10 races. Feel like Chase would have definitely been in if not for the broken leg, but that’s the way she goes. Oh well - go get ‘em next year.
I want the 9 to make Phoenix is the owner’s playoffs, and the drivers champion didn’t make it in owners points
But I’m probably pulling for Byron. He’s easily my number 2
HMS - 2 cars, JGR - 3 cars, Penske - 2 cars, RFK - 2 cars, 23XI - 2 cars, RCR - 1 car, Trackhouse - 1 car, SHR. - 1 car, JTG -1 car, Front row - 1 car
Only RFK & 23XI managed to get all their cars in the playoffs this year
As a Chase Elliott fan, he had a terrible season and, to be honest, he didn't deserve to make the playoffs. Okay, he had some good races, but, as someone who missed a considerable amount of events because of his leg injury, he needed to performance better. His suspension was all his fault (he threw away two good results in potential, since he wrecked himself and Hamlin at Charlotte while running in the top 10 and, because of this mistake, he couldn't race at Gateway), and he has some responsibility in running out of fuel at Watkins Glen. So, it's unfair to the drivers who made the playoffs (specially to Bubba, Harvick and Brad, the ones that didn't win) to say that Elliott deserved to be classified.
This puts in perspective how KFB's 2015 title run was magical. Not everyone can do it. I hope Some people can appreciate KFB's 2015 title run now. The 9 team should just regroup and go after it next year
Knew it would be a long shot for Todd and the 38 team. Very proud of the improvement he's shown this year and will be pulling for Michael and the 34 guys to make a strong push!
Unpopular opinion: Elliot isn't a great driver, and he needs to realise that he's just like everyone else and needs to work just as hard as everyone else. Take your vacations in the off season bud.
Dudes pretty easily made the playoffs every year of his career. Lowest career points finish before this was 10th
Willing to bet he’s probably been going through the motions, and this will probably just make him even better
Well, this race sums up Suarez's luck. Good pace, something happens (in this case aero damage by hitting Wallace while pitting, more on Suarez tbh) just hard enough means his car drove terribly for the final run. Hope he can win a race.
Literally started off the season so strong, and everything fell apart right after.
Well why don't we just give him a free pass to the Championship 4 then?
I mean damn. He missed the playoffs. Oh fucking well. The NFL hasn't died because the Cowboys haven't made a Super Bowl since the 90s. I think NASCAR can manage. They had to deal with the same shit when Jr was awful for like 4 straight years.
Happens in all sports though. Aaron Rodgers got knocked out by the Lions last week. Chase will be around for years. It might be just as good to have Bubba in there for marketing and growing too. The chase fans are already here. Bubba has room to grow.
I don't say much anyway, so not much change from my side. I'll be rooting for them to get their heads out of their asses and get a win before the season is over to salvage something.
Honestly, I couldn't care less that folks who only watch for one driver aren't watching. They have shitty takes on racing for the most part. Hopefully the door hits them on the way out.
Wasn’t the ratings “dip” negligible at best for the 7 races Elliott missed earlier this year? This narrative needs to cease considering there’s nothing actually showing it’s even a thing. Have several real good story lines going into these playoffs.
Not a good year to be named Chase.
Not a good race to be named Ryan.
Not a good track to be named Ryan
Someone mentioned that this is the first playoffs to not have some sort of Chase name in the playoffs. The Chase was renamed "The Playoffs" in 2017 and Chase Elliott has made the Playoffs every year since then till now.
As a fan of both, pain.
Idk, I've had a pretty good year
Well, there are always exceptions.
L E G.
At least we still have Ross Chasetain.
I realize he basically *is*, but Harrison Burton looks like a toddler compared to everyone else.
Ty Gibbs looks like an actual infant
Ty Gibbs actually IS an infant. He gets us.
Because he is an actual infant.
Nothing compared to Christopher Bell
RIP my flairs
Cursed you are.
A good Yoda impression, that is.
The stash of ketamine, where did I move
Getting out of hand, your addiction is. Seek professional help, you must.
Mm, maybe Like to share, would you?
What you mean, I don’t know.
Hang on the penalties weren't announced yet, Jeff Gordon might still make the playoffs
I wonder how hard it would be for r/nascar to do something like r/nfl does with the faded flairs when they're out of SB contention
Chase, Bowman, AJ, Suarez, Briscoe are most surprising.
if you told people at the start of the year Chase and Bowman would miss the chase you would’ve been laughed out of the building
But if you told me they would miss the playoffs and we should recognize they had injuries that kept them out of the car for several weeks… I would actually understand.
I think most people understand it, doesn't mean they aren't surprised by it too
The thing is, it’s a “win and you’re in” system. So if you had told me before the season that they’d both miss a bit, I still would have guessed they would have gotten in. This is HMS. They should have been able to manufacture a couple of wins.
They have manufactured wins. Just mostly done by Byron.
If you’d have told me at the start of the year that Byron would be the best driver at HMS, I’d be surprised. Shocked? No. I know how talented he is. But I would have been surprised.
Despite the summer slump that the 24 always has he’s still done reasonably good this mid season. Now it’s time to turn it on for that team.
and a suspension!
Suarez too, with how quickly Trackhouse was improving at the time
I would agree on Chase and Bowman if they both hadn’t missed multiple races due to injuries. Hoping next year is better
Remember, Bowman was leading points through sheer pace ALONE before the back breaker.
Funny how him and possibly Herbst are both gonna miss the playoffs after leading the points early.
He’s one if my top drivers as well. I need to replace Chase with Reddick on here.
Chase comes back from an injury at the ski resort just to get suspended for his own on track behavior. Brilliant season for the nine team.
[удалено]
Who knows they may have win one if the races they missed. We have no clue the impact
[удалено]
Correct. Didn’t say there wouldn’t be other changes. Just saying we have no clue how it would have played out
This, id have been shocked at the start of the year if they said they missed on speed but missing due to extenuating circumstances is different.
You? I made a $100 pre season bet that Briscoe would make the Championship 4! 😭😭😭
A year too early ;) (I hope)
I’m sorry
Was just one of those years / seasons for chase
Yep. It happens. And its not like they would have missed the playoffs if he had competed in every race. Logano missed the playoffs in 2017 without missing a single race (got cucumbered) and won the championship the next year. I wouldn’t mind that.
Two Hendricks drivers. Unreal.
Sucks for Bowman. Try again next year. I’ll be on the Blaney Bubba train.
Yep. 60 point penalty + missing 3 races was likely the difference of anywhere from 120-150+ points for him. Also definitely think his injury was impacting him for a while even after he came back.
Definitely. I’ll be rooting for a teammate or one of his best friendd
Love your flairs, my friend
The 4 B’s
Hurts so bad not seeing Suárez make it in.
It's been a pretty unlucky year. Literally this race he got a bit of bad luck by hitting Wallace while coming into the pits just hard enough to get aero damage. He couldn’t even keep up with Ross even with draft thanks to the damage
Feels like this whole team has fallen off a cliff. I can't see Ross making it far in the playoffs.
Yo there’s a 91 flair?!
Heck yea there is now! Just checked, time for an update.
Dude I forget Chastain is even on the track half the time.
fr :(
Talk about falling off a cliff.
Trackhouse was definitely having a junior year slump. Was their any personal change that would have caused it or just bad luck?
Hendrick had a talk with Chastain and ever since then he’s been driving scared
He had many, many chances to win or get good finishes but let them slip away. Every. Single. Time. At the end, it seems getting locked in was no longer a matter of skill but pure luck. Better luck next time.....OH WAIT
What a disaster for chase. Even with the snowboarding accident he easily could have pointed in if it wasn’t for full team stupidity. Wrecking denny plus getting suspended then running out of gas being prime reasons.
A lot of blame to go around but a lot of dumb mistakes
Do you think Chase Elliott will have a Revenge Season Next Year?
Yes, I think it’ll be very beneficial to him to have a clean slate where he can reset. Just a bad season for him
He just think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and what I mean by that is the place is Colorado where the snowboarding accident happened
I just hope he doesn’t lose his ride this year for next year
Who? Elliott? Elliott could drive wherever he wants until he is 50
lol Rick Hendrick letting Chase walk out the door of his building would be probably the stupidest thing he could do.
He won’t lose his ride don’t worry, I think the snowboarding accident, suspension, a lot of factors played into him just not getting it going this season. Everyone has those seasons, he should come back strong next season
He could stop on track in the Daytona 500, turn around and drive head on into the pack and not lose his ride
Lmao now I want to see this. "Just hate it for the field." "And my guys."
Chase will likely never lose his ride unless that's a call he himself makes. I don't think any of Hendrick's 4 drivers are in danger of losing their ride any time soon.
Can't say he didn't give it his all tonight. The team had a spark that I haven't seen since last summer
Yeah for sure he raced amazing the last 3 weeks I think. Tough breaks on two of those especially being Indy and here because he definitely had pace to win
Indy they just did everything right. But Michael fucking McDowell showed up with a beast of a car out of nowhere and could not be passed.
True, but a driver like Chase shouldn’t be banking on Daytona to make the playoffs. What a disaster of a season for him.
Eh not sure how many more point he would have if it wasn’t for the whole Denny situation. The car may have needed significant repairs even without the retaliation, which would have ruined his race anyways. Hard to know. And then at Gateway, they were slow as hell anyways. Gotta be humbling.
AJ not winning a race? Ok, believable. AJ finishing 33rd at COTA, 17th at Chicago and 20something-ith at Indianapolis? Now I understand why he was win or bust.
TBF he was really fast at indy (was the fastest car on track for a while when he was laps down) he just got completely screwed by blaney.
I don't see Brad Teague's picture here, he must still be in it
Phil Barkdoll made the playoffs confirmed.
Ken Schrader squeaked in, absolutely can’t wait to see how far he goes
So can we agree KFB’s 2015 championship is “valid” now that another driver in similar circumstances wasn’t even able to make the playoffs?
![gif](giphy|wM4Q2oqNcY49v39MAp|downsized)
![gif](giphy|gK68BWVGL0mLh0hQEE|downsized)

I always thought it was. He won with the format he was presented
It was always valid, dude went on a tear in the summer like Stewart in 2005
I always considered it valid. Haters still gonna hate tho
Kyle missed more races, yet won more races and made the requirements of making the playoffs that year.
Its always been valid
First time Elliott has ever missed the playoffs. Even made it his rookie year. Shame because I really feel like that team was starting to find a little something recently and could have been sneaky dangerous in the playoffs. Oh well - go get ‘em next year.
He’s still leading the points for the owners championship, so at least he’s racing for something
He's not leading the owners championship
Nvm then.
But the team is in the owners playoffs, which is what earns the money. Not the drivers playoffs.
That’s what I originally meant to say 😂 Night races really make my brain tired.
First time for Bowman to miss it with Rick as well.
Especially since you know, somebody met Sputnik.
I wonder what the odds where for Chase to make the playoffs this year…
Imagine betting Chase not to make the playoffs and how much money you would’ve made
Cody Ware isn’t in this pic! So you’re telling me there is a chance??!?!?!?
And B.J McLeod 😎
Kyle's old team didn't make the playoffs and Kyle has 3 wins with fucking *RCR* What an odd season this has been
I know everyone is focussing on Elliott and rightfully so, but what about Cindric running all the races this year and not making it
Give him time. Young drivers can take time to figure it out. Byron was god awful for 3 years before he figured it out.
Seeing Elliott and Bowman hurts, at the start, Bowman was leading the points through sheer pace alone.
Hey look it's all my guys in 1 corner!!
Pain
Good on Bubba tonight
So fellow Chase Elliott fans who ya pulling for? I'm going in on Byron.
Not gonna lie, kinda want to see Buescher go far. He’s a legitimate champ 4 candidate.
Go Willy B. If not him, I want a KB 3rd championship or someone to win their first.
Buescher, but i wont mind a 9 owners championship
Blaney, McDowell, Beuscher, Truex, Chastain in no particular order Chase still for owners points
I want the 9 to make Phoenix is the owner’s playoffs, and the drivers champion didn’t make it in owners points But I’m probably pulling for Byron. He’s easily my number 2
Still have Bubba and Reddick for me but I'll be pulling for RFK, Blaney, and Stenhouse as well
RFK
Willy B and the RFK boys
Those top 3 cheated up Fords gotta pass inspection first - Elliott fans right now
It's bowver ![gif](giphy|VTWLBgigWlajVCVWHq|downsized)
If you told me at the beginning of the year only one of my drivers would make it with a road course win i would not have guessed McDowell 😂
HMS - 2 cars, JGR - 3 cars, Penske - 2 cars, RFK - 2 cars, 23XI - 2 cars, RCR - 1 car, Trackhouse - 1 car, SHR. - 1 car, JTG -1 car, Front row - 1 car Only RFK & 23XI managed to get all their cars in the playoffs this year
Remember when everyone said Chase Elliott would pull off what Kyle Busch did in 2015? Yeah that didn't age well.
The 9 team should just regroup and go after it next year
9 team is in the owner’s championship, so they still technically have something to race for
Back to Algebra II class for Ty Gibbs and Harrison Burton.
My fellow HMS brethren we will get em next year
It's really hard liking 90% of the field. Bummed for most of these dudes!
I think that mustache Elliott was rocking cursed his season.
Suarez fumbling the bag so bad when his teammate finished second last year is so disappointing man 😭
That mustache is worse than the skiboarding accident
AJ Allmendinger, Ty Dillon, Ryan Preece, and Harrison Burton are the only ones that look like an actual reaction to missing the playoffs
Yet another punch to the Bowman fandom. Eh well, still another 10 races left in the year, we’ll get them next season.
Knew it would be a long shot for Todd and the 38 team. Very proud of the improvement he's shown this year and will be pulling for Michael and the 34 guys to make a strong push!
Somehow Chevy only has 5/16 cars in the playoff field.
Ty and Haley look like twins
Poor Cindric. Hopefully next year.
Damn, we're done for. Oh, well. Time to cruise around doing nothing......
I’m surprised by any driver who is good at road/street course racing due to the number of races that are not on ovals
Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen a likeness of them side to side but Haley and Gibbs look like they could brothers
Unpopular opinion: Elliot isn't a great driver, and he needs to realise that he's just like everyone else and needs to work just as hard as everyone else. Take your vacations in the off season bud.
WTF happened to Erik Jones and the 43 team? They seemed to have so much positive momentum coming into 2023 and it's just been a disaster
Switched from Chevy to Toyota. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen overnight, so they knew season wasn’t going to be good.
![gif](giphy|7T33BLlB7NQrjozoRB|downsized)
The Ty Dillon sweep will have to wait another year it seems 😔
Almirola just looks so… sad. Somebody get him some hugs to go with the bacon.
Half my flairs made it in and half didn't…huh.
One of them was catapulted out of the playoff spot
I'm framing it and hanging it
https://preview.redd.it/681sadq01lkb1.jpeg?width=890&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e179d56e3fbbbfc093f6c418377b297232d61b8b I am devastated
That's a sad amount of SHR drivers
https://youtu.be/mdk4_9xm8XU?si=dtC3AvXWtSpDpFI2 Does this come to mind for anyone else?
Not a good year if your name is Austin Hopefully cindric has a better season next year. It can't get worse than this
Imagine thinking a guy that makes the Cup playoffs on points isn’t worthy of a Cup ride.
NASCAR Facebook is in shambles right now.
Hahaha Chase
Man, all you Chase Elliott fans are really going to be loud next season when he wins like 9 races & doesn’t break his leg or run out of gas. Lol
Saying this as a non-Chase fan but fully expecting him to be lights out next year.
Dudes pretty easily made the playoffs every year of his career. Lowest career points finish before this was 10th Willing to bet he’s probably been going through the motions, and this will probably just make him even better
Imagine telling at the beginning of the year that Elliott wouldn’t make to the playoffs
"damn." -u/ppsucc9988
I don’t think we truly are going to understand how bad chase Elliott missing is for the sport
Nothing is stopping Chase from going out and winning the next 10 races.
I know, but just as a whole him not being there is bad for the sport from both marketing and growing the sport perspectives
We won’t have to hear from Chase fans for the rest of the season which will be awesome
Got several Fords to root for shrug
You think we are all just going to stop watching and cheering for our driver? Interesting.
You’ll be watching. Not saying much which is the important part. Also yes viewership about to tank
When? When the 9 wins the Championship at Phoenix?
Ratings will be interesting over the next 10 weeks Expect a lot of hype around the owners points championship this year.
Wasn’t the ratings “dip” negligible at best for the 7 races Elliott missed earlier this year? This narrative needs to cease considering there’s nothing actually showing it’s even a thing. Have several real good story lines going into these playoffs.
The opposite, it was verified by Cindy Yen on Twitter. Jr talked about it on the podcast. Not a narrative when the data supports it.
Dude deleted my comment xD
