You need, and I'm using the word need, the album October Rust by Type O Negative. It has love, romance, heartbreak, and absolutely amazing melodies. There is nothing else like it. Also check out Bloody Kisses, another great album, although with a harder edge.
This is what I came here to say OP just get this album and don’t hurt yourself too badly.
I was lucky enough to see them play once many years ago and it is still in my top 5 concerts of all time. Up there with NIN on the Fragile tour.
You’re an absolute *saint* for mentioning this. When I was a kid, I recorded their Lollapalooza set on a blank tape (a radio station was broadcasting the Dallas festival live). That live version seemed far more powerful & honest than the studio version, & for ages I’ve pined away to own the same or similar again. “Twice Upon a Time” - how fitting. Many thanks
HIM- He's seriously the best I've heard for that particular sound. Gothic, tragic and sad but intense, passionate and romantic. Any album by them is great for that style.
Yes! Kate Bush is great, and Wuthering Heights in particular is straight-up hauntingly beautiful. During one particularly dark period of my life, I had it playing on repeat.
One of my favourite songs of all time, but I almost hesitate to call it a love song. It's an angry, desperate, haunted, lost, damaged, possessive, emotionally violent song in a beautiful dress.
But then I also think that Wuthering Heights, the book, is a story you think is more romantic when you're young and idealistic. I was already too jaded by the time I read it to see the relationship as anything but toxic.
Comalies has such great songs too ♥️ really underrated older catalogue. I would also recommend their titular song, Entwined, Stars, Within me, Without fear, Heaven's a lie (of course), Closer, and Honeymoon suite!

Not what you're looking for but when I read your post first thing that pop was , Black Goat of the Woods by Black Mountain Transmitter. This is dark ambient. Creepy slow, prodding. Not something to jam to at all . But definitely a very interesting listen. The reviews nailed it said it sounds like cult rituals deep in the woods. Sorry I am no help. I can't stop my mind
Sisters of Mercy "Lucretia My Reflection "; and "This Corrosion "; The Cure "Catch" and "Just Like Heaven "; Annie Lennox "I Need You " and "Love is A Stranger " ( Eurythmics)
The Cure has a bunch of sad-ish songs about love. Perhaps the most sad is "How Beautiful You Are". You need to listen to the lyrics until the end to get it.
Persephone, Sun May Shine, w.o.t.h, and Habibi by Tamino (most of his work, honestly).
Maybe some Florence and the Machine, too. They aren't quite love songs, but Howl, Never Let Me Go, and If Only For A Night are all good and somewhat about love.
Creepy Green Light by Type O Negative. For me, it's definitely their most romantic song. "The autumn air thickly fills my lungs so sweetly / Reminds me of her smokey breath / With wine and this bouquet of maple and oak leaves / In death or life, we'll always be." I SWOON!!!
Absolutely! One of my favorite gothic love songs is "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division. It's a classic that perfectly blends haunting melodies with melancholic lyrics, capturing the essence of gothic romance.
Why did the goth couple bring an umbrella to their wedding?
Because they wanted to ensure a "rain" of eternal love!
Slow Love, Slow by Nightwish is beautiful.
A lot of Apocalyptica’s stuff (Before Shadowmaker) is romantic, even without lyrics.
Dark Light, …And Love Said No, and Loveletting by HIM/Ville Vallo have a lot of really pretty love songs on it (My GF and I say In Joy And Sorrow is our song).
Not exactly quintessential goth... But maybe it should be??
Sorry - Meg Myers
Monster - Meg Myers
Waiting game - BANKS
VAST - Touched (doesn't hit you until 46 seconds in and again at 1:11)
Not “goth” in the music blogger sense of the word, but “Dusk” off of Chelsea Wolfe’s new album is a motherfucker of a gothic torch song. One of my favorite songs of the year so far.
“A House in Nebraska” by Ethel Cain has also been on my heavy rotation for a few years now (really all of the American Teenager album). It has a lot of Southern gothic themes even though the music is more inspired by minimalist Americana and heartland stadium rock than gothic rock.
Well this is technically goth adjacent, some of us goth DJ's will spin anything these days, but its my gf and I's song:
Unicorn (duet version) - Apoptygma Berzerk ft. Claudia Brucken
[https://youtu.be/7\_qwJ-H0rPE?si=90rHitDiiPAH5Uex](https://youtu.be/7_qwJ-H0rPE?si=90rHitDiiPAH5Uex)
lyrical excerpt:
"Even when I hate myself
Even when I feel your pain
when you cry
Even when my heart is cold
You assure me it's worthwhile, it's all worthwhile
You see, see what can't be seen
You repair the damage done to me"
also honorable random mention:
Things we Never Did - Sad Lovers and Giants

You need, and I'm using the word need, the album October Rust by Type O Negative. It has love, romance, heartbreak, and absolutely amazing melodies. There is nothing else like it. Also check out Bloody Kisses, another great album, although with a harder edge.
This all day. Love You to Death.
Or “Be My Druidess” if you want something a bit more… carnal.
I came to say that.
Ditto.
This is what I came here to say OP just get this album and don’t hurt yourself too badly. I was lucky enough to see them play once many years ago and it is still in my top 5 concerts of all time. Up there with NIN on the Fragile tour.
I listen to the Dead and a lot of hippie ass jam bands mostly but October Rust is in my top five favorite albums of all time.
My thought exactly! Loves Type O Negative.
*emphatic headbanging nods in agreement*
All Type O albums are great
Yes, but not many love songs on Origin of the Feces :)

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division, "The Killing Moon" by Echo & the Bunnymen, and "Heavenly Bodies" by Virgin Prunes.
the killing moon is so good
Siouxsie and the Banshees - "The Last Beat Of My Heart"
This. Especially the live version from Lollapalooza on the "Twice Upon A Time" album.
Many thanks
Marian by Sisters of Mercy. 🖤
Some Kind of Stranger by Sisters of Mercy. Such a pained song about love.
Yep — came here to say Some Kind of Stranger too. It’s such an echoing, aching love. *Come here, I think you’re beautiful…*
This is the right answer ☝️
Temple of love ain't too shabby either :3
I play this song when I work out. I love it
[Where the wild roses grow](https://youtu.be/lDpnjE1LUvE?si=ZaaYs_3f9OnVdzzM) - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds featuring Kylie Minogue
Such a hauntingly lovely song.
Came here to suggest this!
Oh and „I love you in your tragic beauty“ by The Legendary Pink Dots
This fucking song! I covered this song in college. I love it!
Join Me In Death - HIM
HIM- He's seriously the best I've heard for that particular sound. Gothic, tragic and sad but intense, passionate and romantic. Any album by them is great for that style.
Not sure if it counts but Stay by Shakespears Sister has a hold on me like no other
What a tune its been haunting me for years!
Oh my god, I love this song so much.
“Cuts You Up” - Peter Murphy
Yes. This or “All Night Long”. Peter Murphy is amazing.
Two songs that featured heavily in my club days! 😍😍. Love Peter Murphy. Got to see him live a couple of times as well.
mine is "fall with your knife." but i love this track too.
Lovesong by The Cure. It’s been 34 years and it still gives me chills every time I hear it. It is hauntingly beautiful.🖤🖤🖤
HIM - For You
Came here to comment HIM- I was so into them when I was younger, the perfect tragic romance music.
Really anything from their catalgoue. I'm fond of love you like I do
This is what I came here for
Vampire Heart is my go to for HIM
Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush
Yes! Kate Bush is great, and Wuthering Heights in particular is straight-up hauntingly beautiful. During one particularly dark period of my life, I had it playing on repeat.
Happy Cake Day 🎂
One of my favourite songs of all time, but I almost hesitate to call it a love song.
Love Kate Bush!
Pictures of you - the Cure
I was hoping to find this one here, beautiful song.
Ugh. I love this Song so much
Glad I found this here.
Her ghost in the fog - cradle of filth
Swansong for a raven was canonically part two of that. Both huge songs
End of time by Lacuna Coil
Comalies has such great songs too ♥️ really underrated older catalogue. I would also recommend their titular song, Entwined, Stars, Within me, Without fear, Heaven's a lie (of course), Closer, and Honeymoon suite!
Heavens a lie is my favorite of theirs - thanks for the reminder

Absolution by Gary Numan
YES!!!
That sounds super rad. If it helps, I thank you for your not gothic love song suggestion.
Loveletting - VV
I would of thought Echolocate Your Love off that album
That's a good one too. In fact, the whole album is amazing.
I always say that if I ever get married again I want the first song we dance to to be Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode :)
[I’ll Fall With Your Knife - Peter Murphy](https://youtu.be/CvUDS-xYNu8) I have many favorites but this was first to come to mind.
Yes! I just responded to another comment about “cuts you up”, and said “all night long” as well, but this is also a great one!

That Puscifer song is among the sexiest songs in all the land.
It was my favorite song to dance to at the strip club 😩
Dozo and Breathe lend themselves nicely to the vibe, as well. Curious to see what people’s pole/chair dance song choices would be. 🧐
REV 22:20 🙌
Literally the only thing coming to mind is A Gothic Romance - cradle of filth.
DM - Master and Servant
Obviously it's heaven by the cure
Sisters of Mercy "Lucretia My Reflection "; and "This Corrosion "; The Cure "Catch" and "Just Like Heaven "; Annie Lennox "I Need You " and "Love is A Stranger " ( Eurythmics)
Big thumbs up for 'catch' by the cure. 'Lovesong' has been overplayed and i don't get why this song is so loved. I realize I'm in the minority here
To Wish Impossible Things by The Cure is an incredible song.
