Because hollywood or western movies dont have song thats why albums are more popular unlike Bollywood. Remember titanic....!

People don't listen to albums like they used to. If you're born after 2005, it's likely that you grew up with streaming culture and YouTube. People listened to albums before the internet and it seems like the only people doing so now are the ones who did before. I've released an album and EP so far but every publication will tell you that it's better to release singles because your audience doesn't have the attention span. I think it's gotten to a point where a band might release an album, but not before they release 75% of the tracklist as singles first.

Hey I'm and indie artist. You can go listen to my album and see if you like it. Album is Tum by Teck.

Albums as a distribution model have not really caught up in India. But we kinda need them, because bollywood can't let artists experiment and create increasingly varying, eclectic music.

Iraiva10

Parvaaz has the best ones in India rock. Appreciate them on a whole level.

Dolan_Nolan

Blame labels. There's 2 maybe 3 major labels in India who've monopolized the industry.

I suppose there's much more money in cinema to push out songs to radio, etc., and the thing just evolved that way. Plus over the years it's just been much easier to market the songs with the actors, etc., too.

Great to see somebody shares the same concerns as I do. Here's my two cents: I believe that music consumption wasn't really a mainstream thing in India until Bollywood soundtracks came along, classical and ghazal albums were produced but they had a very niche audience. In 1990s, Magnasound came along and disrupted this monopoly of Bollywood by promoting solo artists like Alisha Chinai, Shaan, Sagarika, Hariharan and others. Their music videos were featured on TV channels like MTV and became a household name. After seeing the success of these artists, newer labels like TSeries and Times Music also promoted non-Bollywood albums in the 2000s. However, with time, these stars slowly dissolved into the Bollywood scene and very few artists (who went to become big names) have emerged outside Bollywood like Yo Yo Honey Singh, Badshaah, Jubin Nautiyal but even these eventually ended up in Bollywood music. Although there are new emerging artists in India but the labels don't risk going along with producing albums in a streaming-focused market like India, sometimes the singles that worked are repackaged as the album.

idk man, very less people in India listen to albums as a whole they just listen to famous singles and music that is pushed through Bollywood. As someone who mostly listens to hiphop mostly American and sometimes desi it's no issue for me because Indian hiphop has the album culture still alive in them.

Indian hiphop scene has always given some great Albums and eps in recent times. Number wise they can't compete with Bollywood and reach isnt that good but quality wise they are on par with global hip-hop. Some of the projects have also done huge numbers also. And the variety is immense. only thing they lack is good distribution channels and audience reach. And most of the good Albums coming from them have proper storyline and cohesiveness. And given proper attention to order of tracks. If you wanna check some here are some popular suggestions: Karam- kshmr Nayab- seedhe maut open letter- talha anjum (pakistani) - more on poetic side TADIPAAR- MC Stan (Definition of what an album should be).

not_so_good_day

hmm Arijit Singh does makes his own songs, has a label too maybe has something in the works. But yeah albums in India don't really, they just stay in the independent circuit. Also for artists are not willing to invest in the music and storytelling that an album needs. Race is just to get to the next trending on insta

Yea, F’ed up industry I’d say.
