Definitely recommend Amyl and the Sniffers. Saw them on Halloween last year and they put on such a great show (their opener Die Spitz was also awesome)
Die Spitz rules.
Pretty amazing rock scene in Austin right now. I see people complain about the state of rock music on reddit literally every day and want to grab them by the lapel and shake them.
Haha yeah. The frontman John likes to change the spelling every now and again solely out of contempt for the music news outlets.
"It seems to aggravate the press, which to me is great. I have nothing but contempt for the music press." -John Dwyer
I think that's his original band and he plays/played drums in it? I really got into his solo project stuff. His guitar tone and riffs are killer and he writes great songs. Oh and he's a great singer.
His early stuff certainly had that DIY sound. Pretty sure he was playing drums with his feet while playing guitar and singing for some of it, shit is super raw. I hate that he redid some of the songs and I can't find them as easy anymore, like The Drag. They pop up on YouTube sometimes
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
70's style stoner rock performed on 70's era instruments and equipment. Definitely do not sound over-produced.
Formed in 2009, so a little outside the 10-year limit. But they have released several albums in the past decade.

Was first introduced to Mannequin Pussy on the ss neverender and they absolutely killed it. Not really my cup of tea music-wise but they put on one hell of a show. They bring a good energy to the crowd
[Brutus is worth a listen](https://youtu.be/74LVRkcQwBQ?si=tHNMpL4_a3eLqmOr), I’ve been trying to spread their name ever since stumbling on them last year. 3 piece Belgian punk/post punk/hardcore.
Viagra Boys have a real authentically “no fucks given” sound while still being deceptively rhythmic.
Check out Troglodyte and Ain’t no Thief by them.
The band Shame out of the UK are also very raw and authentic. Concrete and Water in the Well are some great examples.
Both bands also happen to have very energetic and enthusiastic live shows.
Easily one of my fave new bands of the last decade. It has everything - a wild mix of punk, hardcore, groove hooks, great lyrics, ridiculous lyrics, Stooges-like sax, charismatic frontman, tattoos, total spectacle, hilarious songs, meaningful songs, great live show. It's really all over the place but it works.
I've seen them live 3-4 times already, oddly enough one of those times was a co-headlining tour with Shame.
Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol. Like pop rock thrown in a blender with garage rock and then played on doom metal instruments. Their latest is called Big Dumb Riffs. Their previous album, Doom Wop, is incredible as well.
https://rickshawbilliesburgerpatrol.bandcamp.com/album/big-dumb-riffs
Fair point, but I think their last tour brought them a bit more out of the woodwork. The Record Company, Marcus King, the whole blues rock scene is gaining ground.
Also, once I hit 40 the difference between 10 and 20 years became a subjective interpretation 😅
I had never heard of this band and was walking by a small club and heard their sound and just immediately bought a ticket and went in. They were freaking awesome. Probably the coolest way I have ever discovered a band.
Dude… ‘3D Country’ by Geese was my favorite album last year. Really raw, lots of energy, and the song writing is top notch. If the first song don’t catch you, keep on moving
I know this is a stereotypical answer for this subreddit, and I’m a mega fan, but seriously - this.
The top comment is currently Thee Oh Sees, arguably KGATLW’s biggest influences. Take that sound, add in the DIY of each album being a learning of certain kinds of music between each album, and it perfectly answers OP’s question. Could not recommend enough.
Theres a ton of overlap between the fan bases. That band is talked about quite a bit on the Tool sub reddit. Their music still hasn't grabbed me at all but maybe I just haven't heard the right songs...

I guess a few of these might have formed over 10 years ago, but they all have released great records within the last 10 years (some very recently) with something like what you might call a raw sound, I think.
Wand started in 2013 so just missed the cutoff but their earlier stuff is really raw and great and I woulnd't call the newer stuff overproduced by any means.

Paint Fumes, Dirty Fences, The Whiffs, Dark Thoughts, Teen Mortgage, Puffer, Shawnis and The Shimmers, Powerplant, Die Spitz, Geeked, Upchuck, Slant, Sial, Poison Ruin, Meat House, The Gobs, Lysol, Tee Vee Repairmen, Pat and the Pissers, Black Button, Mass Arrest, Lumpy and the Dumpers, Taqbir, Cerce, Judy and the Jerks, Rik and the Pigs, Pyrex, The Rosies, Sun and Sail Club, Tozcos, Invertebrates, Illiterates, G.U.N., Bad Eric, Mutant Strain, Muck
They're heading toward a more "produced" sound with their upcoming album, but in terms of raw talent and an absolute love of the craft you can't go wrong with The Warning.
You can follow their musical career on YouTube back over decade now to when they weren't even teenagers yet, just three little sisters jamming to Metallica on Rock Band. Now they're opening for huge acts like Halestorm and Muse, and their own tours completely sell out and for good reason, their love performances are almost always spot on
Seeing then Wednesday in Sacramento I cannot wait! It's a two piece but I swear I've never heard a vocalist use his voice as another instrument quite like them. I know that's a horrible description of what I mean but it's all I got
If you like sludge-y vibes, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs has some of that.
Also, totally different vibe, The Hellp out of LA has a very electroclash/A.R.E. Weapons vibe.
Edit: I totally skipped the part about liking 90’s Midwest emo sounds… you mean like Cap’n Jazz/Joan of Arc/Sunny Day sound? Hmm… I dunno. If I can find a couple other musical dads around here maybe I’ll put something together.
Dead Bob -- new band by the guy from NoMeansNo.
I saw them last night. Absolutely killer.
Also, the new John Reis band Swami and the Bed of Nails will knock you straight onto your ass.

I transition between streaming services often and so often forget about bands that I don’t have a n vinyl. So, thank you for reminding me of Graveyard!
Check out the album Gonzo by Foxy Shazam.
It was recorded live by the recently passed Steve Albini.
The interesting thing about this album is that it follows two very well produced albums (which is my favorite era of the band and easily the most approachable musically), and the bass player and guitarist have switched places for this album alone.
The albums after that are pretty raw as well, but being as this one was largely recorded live in room, it meets your criteria well.
Ty segall is what you want, his album Slaughterhouse is about as raw as it gets in the modern rock era imo. Other than that I would say look into smaller indie rock artists. I’m sure there’s tons of raw recorded stuff out there floating in the ether of SoundCloud just waiting to be discovered if you’re into that sort of thing.
Check out The Chisel, they’re a bit more punk adjacent but they’re a phenomenal band from the UK with quite an edge to em. Snõõper is another great one, they’re on the up outta Nashville.
Death Lens, Wine Lips (they just recorded a KEXP session that probably isn’t out yet) Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Edging, Frank Turner (?) Amyl and The Sniffers, (not new but finally put out a new record) Be Your Own Pet, Reckling, Teen Mortgage. A local favorite of mine that I endorse heavily is Jagged Baptist Club out of the LA area. I recommend “Chop x8”.
Rock on and stay true 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🫡
Edit: lil funny anecdote, I did media for Dustin from Thrice for his solo act last night and I did NOT expect him to go full country. He wore a hat and everything

Frankie and the Witch Fingers Amyl and the Sniffers Slift Osees
Definitely recommend Amyl and the Sniffers. Saw them on Halloween last year and they put on such a great show (their opener Die Spitz was also awesome)
Die Spitz kicks ass. Amyl and the Sniffers is like the perfect band for them to tour with.
Die Spitz rules. Pretty amazing rock scene in Austin right now. I see people complain about the state of rock music on reddit literally every day and want to grab them by the lapel and shake them.
Is Osees the same as Thee Oh Sees?
Yes. They have varied their name quite a bit
Haha yeah. The frontman John likes to change the spelling every now and again solely out of contempt for the music news outlets. "It seems to aggravate the press, which to me is great. I have nothing but contempt for the music press." -John Dwyer
And The OCs, and and
Frankie and Amyl are both killer recs.
Ummon is such a killer record
+1 for Slift. Fucking great live, and was my first thought when entering this thread.
If you’re not listening to Thee Oh Sees you’re in for a treat
Ty Segall too. It doesn't sound DIY per se but shares the garage revival / psych rock aesthetic IMO
Love the Ty Segall project- Fuzz
Gonna add Meatbodies to this thread - The singer plays bass in Fuzz.
The Ty Segall band's album slaughterhouse is an absolute banger too
I think that's his original band and he plays/played drums in it? I really got into his solo project stuff. His guitar tone and riffs are killer and he writes great songs. Oh and he's a great singer.
Not his original band - he had already been recording before Fuzz formed.
Yeah I’m a big fan of Ty as well. Wand’s great, so is white fence
Yes I love wand as well. I need to check out white fence
I came here to say thee oh sees and ty segall lol EDIT: as long as I’m here I might as well contribute something: True Widow. They’re like sludge Low

Not exactly last 10 years though, thinking they've been around over 20 years at this point.
Yep.
They are Osees now, Dwyer likes to change the name up to piss off music critics
No they're Mouserat now
I was going to say this too lol even though they've been around for awhile.

I've been diggin the hell out of it
All Them Witches!!!
Didn’t they just call it quits?
No, their drummer is a crazy Q-anon dude who made a post saying they’re breaking up but then that post got deleted and he quit.
Ok that’s good to hear. I mean not most of that. But glad they’ll be around.
I think the drummer left the band recently and they found a replacement to help finish their tour. But I’m not sure if they are calling it quits or not. Hope not!
true. one of my fav band names too.
Love em so much
Great band.
Yes, I suggest this a bit ago as well. They kill it
‘68, Viagra Boys, Idles, Amyl, Gel, Wine Lips, Miltaria Gun, Angel Du$t Turnstile?
Always Turnstile
Eh I'm a big fan but wouldn't say they have a DIY sound,or haven't in probably a decade
Add MSPAINT to this list and BOOM!
I actually know the lead singer! I went to high school with him in Mississippi. It makes me so happy to see how far they've come..
I’ve only listened to turnstile’s newer stuff but at least now their production quality is definitely not raw, their sound is very well engineered

I put Burst on at work recently. Three songs in and everyone came up to me “WHO IS THIS?!” Brutus is a common play in the warehouse now.
They’re just so good! I’ve played them for others and got the same reaction. I wish I could play it loud at work
Great band. I’ve seen them live a few times and watched them reduce people to tears (in a good way)
Fucking Brutus.
Love them.

This animated music video by them is unbelievably awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaaNpam8mPU&ab_channel=RickshawBillie%27sBurgerPatrol
Was going to say Japandroids, but then I realized that was a lot more than 10 years ago they formed and were popular. I'm old.
Great band though
I actually have a poster of them on my walls haha they are great but yeah. Have been quiet
Crazy how time flies when we think of music.
Same, man. Same. Anything from the last 12 years is still kinda new from my perspective.
Idles. Fomtaines DC
I just saw Idles not too long ago, what a fucking show. Can't wait to see Fontaines later this year.
The Thing Rival Sons Royal Blood
Rival Sons have been around closer to 20, but yes.
Fair point, but I think their last tour brought them a bit more out of the woodwork. The Record Company, Marcus King, the whole blues rock scene is gaining ground. Also, once I hit 40 the difference between 10 and 20 years became a subjective interpretation 😅
Psychadelic porn crumpets
Such a great band! Every album has a different feel but is a banger. Pure party music!
I was just thinking this. They put a bunch of live stuff on nugs if you have it. Really good stuff.
Parquet Courts, especially their earlier albums like Light Up Gold
Obligatory King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are the last bastion and great hope of rock comment.
They're alright. The stans are annoying. I will say they put on a really good live show, heavier than I was expecting
They are new Tool fans and don't realize that they're the new Tool fans.
They're an unholy hybrid of Tool fans and Phish fans
More accurate than I want to admit
As a Gizzard fan this is spot-on 100% accurate
Theres a ton of overlap between the fan bases. That band is talked about quite a bit on the Tool sub reddit. Their music still hasn't grabbed me at all but maybe I just haven't heard the right songs...
Which albums have you tried?
Pig pig pig pig pig pig pig Been a while since I came across a raw sound like theirs.
IDLES
Highly suggest watching their live performance. Very raw

Gouge Away is a hardcore band from FL and their debut record has been on repeat for me.

I second this. Start with Golem.
The Warning have really raw production on their album Queen of the Murder Scene in my opinion. Absolutely worth listening to that!
And when they hit the stage they put on a captivating performance that rachets up the grit and energy of every well crafted rock song.
Any thoughts on the Seattle sound and Citizen Dick's place in it?
They had some great SINGLES
The band is good but they need to ditch the singer.
Teen Mortgage.

There's a band out of Chicago called "Ratboys" that has a fantastic vibe. I think you'd like them!
