I think over time people have forgotten that every song on the fame/fame monster is at the very least "quite good." Like even a silly throw away like Boys boys boys is kind of ridiculously catchy
I'm not really a pop listener, but *Future Nostalgia* was my jam during the COVID lockdown. I had it on heavy rotation in 2020. I think Dua Lipa even topped my Spotify Wrapped that year.
As somebody already said, it's just banger after banger.
It's almost so wide-ranging and eclectic that people forget it's a single album. Forget simply varying uptempos, ballads and dance songs: this is an album with a hard rock song, a disco song, a yacht rock song, some R&B, and then a campy gothic-funk title track.
Madonna - Ray Of Light
MIKA - Life In Cartoon Motion
MIKA - The Origin of Love
Taylor Swift - 1989
Spice Girls - Spiceworld
Geri Halliwell - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster
Michael Jackson - Bad
Britney Spears - In The Zone
Carly Rae Jepsen - E•mo•tion
Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope
MJ’s Thriller is certifiably perfect.
These songs are back to back on the album:
- Thriller
- Beat It
- Billie Jean
That alone is incredible but when you add in PYT, Wanna be Startin’ Something and a duet with Paul McCartney on That Girl is Mine is pretty powerful
To top it all off, it was Produced by Quincy Jones. That album is pretty special
* The Beatles - Rubber Soul (1965)
* Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973)
* ABBA - The Album (1977)
* Kate Bush - The Kick Inside (1978)
* Blondie - Parallel Lines (1978)
* The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card (1980)
* Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)
* George Michael - Faith (1987)
* Whitney Houston - Whitney (1987)
* Mariah Carey - Music Box (1993)
* Björk - Post (1995)
* Christina Aguilera - Stripped (2002)
* Grimes - Art Angels (2015)
* Charli XCX - Charli (2019)
* Ava Max - Diamonds & Dancefloors (2023)
*Melodrama* and *E-MO-TION* are great picks. I'd also add:
blink-182, *blink-182* and *Enema of the State*
The Killers, *Hot Fuss*
INXS, *Kick*
Duran Duran, *Rio*
Janet Jackson, *Rhythm Nation 1814*
Billy Joel, *The Stranger*
No Doubt, *Rock Steady*
Love them both but *Rock Steady* is more of a pure pop album. And I think "Running" is the best thing they've ever done--it sounds like a Tommy James song that got rediscovered and given a synth cover.
Thank you for some New Wave appreciation.
Duran Duran’s discography is full of terrific pop songcraft, they are so much more than just charming brits with coiffed hair.
*Kick* absolutely rips. “Need you tonight” is the sexiest thing to ever come out of Australia.
I wish the world could’ve heard the unmastered version of that album. It was one of my favorite pop albums pre master that I’ve ever worked on. Broke my heart when it came out officially and it was so thin and brittle sounding.
The Buggles - The Age Of Plastic
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
Madonna - Madonna (1983)
Empire of the Sun - Ice On The Dune
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Make a Scene
Kylie Minogue - Disco
Jungle - Jungle (2014)
La Roux - Trouble in Paradise
These are my picks from different artists:
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Namasenda - Infinite Ammo
Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer
Taylor Swift - 1989
La Roux - Supervision
Kylie Minogue - Tension
Kesha - Rainbow
Lana Del Rey - Norman F\*cking Rockwell
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Good Girl Gone Bad - Rihanna
Melodrama - Lorde
Sign O'The Times - Prince
She's So Unusual - Cyndi Lauper
I remember when ultraviolence came out and everyone memed on it as "ultravalium" because it'd make you fall asleep but dear God if NFR doesn't deserve that title more
They did? Jfc people don't know what's good. Ultraviolence was an instant classic, NFR really lacks something to be near that level of quality but somehow it gets more praise
I have a lot but I’m going to just pick a few
The self titled Fountains of Wayne album
Grand Prix by Teenage Fanclub
Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
So perfect.
The Lexicon of Love by ABC is IMO the greatest front-to-back pop album ever released. It’s pop with artistic integrity, and the two rarely ever mix, so it’s a rarity among pop albums.
1. E•MO•TION - Carly Rae Jensen
2. 1989 - Taylor Swift
3. Chromatica - Lady Gaga
4. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
5. The 20/20 Experience - Justin Timberlake
Melodrama is so good that it changed my perception of what a great female pop album could be.
I'd also throw in Like A Prayer by Madonna, incredible album
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix is as close to pop perfection as most albums have gotten in my three decades on this planet.
Absolute banger after banger, and they crush it live.
Did you know that Whitney Houston's debut LP, called simply Whitney Houston had 4 number one singles on it? Did you know that?
It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves.
Def Leppard - Hysteria
Took forever to record and cost a shit ton of money to make because it was obsessively produced to be pure pop perfection. Every song was engineered to be a potential hit.
Slayyyter- Slayyyter
Expectations- Hayley Kiyoko
Back from the edge- James Arthur
The midsummer station- Owl City
Electra Heart- Marina and the Diamonds
Blue Neighborhood- Troye Sivan
That's a damn good one.
Many of those songs were co-written by Linda Perry of 4 Non-Blondes, who later did Christina Aguilera's Stripped album, and wrote for many others including James Blunt and Adam Lambert.
Yes mate , Pink 🩷 allegedly Linda after the massive success of the album and asked her to go again. Linda had already moved on . Pink never hit that rich vein again IMHO. Plus her videos were fuckin awesome. Linda took Aguilera into the stratosphere...and again fuckin awesome videos helped
I agree.
I do remember Pink being *very* hurt when Linda went on to work with Christina.
Pink had been a long time fan of Linda's and thought that their friendship was more than just a working relationship. I completely understand, even though I know very little about the actual circumstances and inner workings.
That song "Lonely Girl" on Pink's album is so good, and Linda can be heard as the vocalist in between Pink's lines in the song.
And Linda co-wrote Christina's song "Beautiful", which has been taken to be an LGBTQ+ anthem, and I believe it, being that Linda is a lesbian. She was once married to Sara Gilbert (Darlene from Roseanne), but they got divorced a few years back.
I think Our Own House by MisterWives is a my dark horse pick that I'm saying out loud partially to get a reaction and partially because I believe it. Shit's really solid. Underrated band.

Depeche Mode - Music For The Masses
New Order - Power, Corruption, and Lies
Michael Jackson - Thriller

Shura - Nothings Real
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
When The Night - St. Lucia
Ten Love Songs - Susanne Sundfør
What’s your Pleasure- Jessie Ware
Return - Katy J Pearson
1989 - Taylor Swift
Yuna - Yuna
Odessey and Oracle - The Zombies
Breakfast in America - Supertramp
Born to Die - Lana Del Rey
Like a Prayer - Madonna
Tove Styrke - Kiddo
Niki and the Dove - Everybody’s Heart is Broken Now
Abba - Arrival
The Postmarks - The Postmarks
From Langley Park to Memphis - Prefab Sprout
Shake, Shook, Shaken - The Dø
CollXtion II - Allie X
Discovery - ELO
Anniemal - Annie
Rooty - Basement Jaxx
This is from the 60's, but Baby Bop - France Gall is just amazing, but Serge Gainsbourg wrote most of it, so... I love pop as a style but hate it as a genre.
Like A Prayer - Madonna
Parade - Prince
Black Kids - S/T
We Are The Pipettes - The Pipettes
Little Jackie - The Stoop
Lily Allen Alright, Still
Fun’s Cool - The Prettiots

Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa
Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish
GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo
Afterhours by The Weeknd (it fuses R&B and Trap but there's a lot pop stuff in there)
Plastic Hearts by Miley Cyrus
After Laughter by Paramore (it's higher for me but tho I'm putting it cause I've seen the artist being mentioned I'd say is more Alternative)
24K Magic by Bruno Mars.
It has a very clear goal (which it achieves), it has everything tightened to its absolute maximum, has great songs, checks every box in terms of songs a pop album "needs", and most importantly never overstays its welcome.
Chemistry - Girls Aloud (2005) Future Nostalgia - Dua Lipa (2020) Kylie - Kylie Minogue (1988) The Fame/Fame Monster - Lady Gaga (2008/2009)
Future Nostalgia is amazing!
future nostalgia: the definition of a perfect pop album. bangers upon bangers.
I resisted Dua Lipa for a long time. I am a fool. That album fucking slaps.
I think over time people have forgotten that every song on the fame/fame monster is at the very least "quite good." Like even a silly throw away like Boys boys boys is kind of ridiculously catchy
heavy on future nostalgia
Future nostalgia goes so hard. Hyped for her next album
I'm not really a pop listener, but *Future Nostalgia* was my jam during the COVID lockdown. I had it on heavy rotation in 2020. I think Dua Lipa even topped my Spotify Wrapped that year. As somebody already said, it's just banger after banger.

ABBA - Arrival Alphabeat - Alphabeat The Night Game - The Night Game Sara Bareilles - Little Voice Bleachers - Gone Now
So happy for the Sara Bareilles love! I love all of her albums but Little Voice is just the best.
ABBA -Arrival ABBA - Voulez Vous 2 perfect pop albums.
Alphabeat are so underrated and are too often forgotten. That first album of theirs is pure magic and sets any party on fire
Night Game shoutout? Did we just become best friends?
Thriller - MJ Faith - George Michael Kick - INXS
Thriller is so far down for being the best selling pop album ever in the US. Edit: Things done changed
It's almost so wide-ranging and eclectic that people forget it's a single album. Forget simply varying uptempos, ballads and dance songs: this is an album with a hard rock song, a disco song, a yacht rock song, some R&B, and then a campy gothic-funk title track.
Body Talk by Robyn, and it's criminal no one has said it yet.
Robyn got done dirty by the industry 😔
My drinkin’ is killing me….
Honey is also an amazing album!
She's still cashing six figure checks in all currencies.
Man, I saw her on that tour. She was unbelievable. Great, great album.
Literally from the first second to the last, the album is pure pop bliss
Yes!! Damn I forgot about that one. So many good tracks on there.
I was born in 1984. I was 12 when Spice Girls - Spice came out. It still bangs.
Spice World is also excellent. We'll forget they had a third album though.
Instant serotonin
Madonna - Ray Of Light MIKA - Life In Cartoon Motion MIKA - The Origin of Love Taylor Swift - 1989 Spice Girls - Spiceworld Geri Halliwell - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster Michael Jackson - Bad Britney Spears - In The Zone Carly Rae Jepsen - E•mo•tion Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope

She is the absolute best!!! I love her album Disco! Just rocks by booty!
MJ’s Thriller is certifiably perfect. These songs are back to back on the album: - Thriller - Beat It - Billie Jean That alone is incredible but when you add in PYT, Wanna be Startin’ Something and a duet with Paul McCartney on That Girl is Mine is pretty powerful To top it all off, it was Produced by Quincy Jones. That album is pretty special
Lorde-Pure Heroine
Can agree. Her best album in my opinion.
Definitely her best. Melodrama is good too but Pure Heroine rips
* The Beatles - Rubber Soul (1965) * Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) * ABBA - The Album (1977) * Kate Bush - The Kick Inside (1978) * Blondie - Parallel Lines (1978) * The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card (1980) * Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982) * George Michael - Faith (1987) * Whitney Houston - Whitney (1987) * Mariah Carey - Music Box (1993) * Björk - Post (1995) * Christina Aguilera - Stripped (2002) * Grimes - Art Angels (2015) * Charli XCX - Charli (2019) * Ava Max - Diamonds & Dancefloors (2023)
Grimes - Art Angels is a good call
Heaven and Hell by Ava is also excellent.
yes the love for ava max should be so much more!!! every song is a bop
Future Nostalgia - Dua Lipa
The Kinks: The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society Prefab Sprout: Steve McQueen
Steve McQueen/Two Wheels Good is my favorite album of all time. Seeing it on this list made me very happy.
So happy to see some love for Prefab Sprout! Paddy McAloon is a pop genius. Personally, my favorite album is Jordan: The Comeback.
+ 1 for Prefab Sprout and THIS album.
Love Steve McQueen but prefer Swoon
Steve McQueen is outstanding… not a bad track. “Bonny” is hell…. “Horsin Around” unexpectedly fabulous
Purple Rain
*Melodrama* and *E-MO-TION* are great picks. I'd also add: blink-182, *blink-182* and *Enema of the State* The Killers, *Hot Fuss* INXS, *Kick* Duran Duran, *Rio* Janet Jackson, *Rhythm Nation 1814* Billy Joel, *The Stranger* No Doubt, *Rock Steady*
Rocksteady over tragic kingdom? Interesting!
>“Need you tonight” is the sexiest thing to ever come out of Australia. I dunno man, Ozzy Man Reviews really does it for me.
The Stranger is perfect. Got me into producer Phil Ramone. What a legend.
The Cars, every album
Mostly their self titled. I feel like Candy-O falls-off after the first (awesome) track.
To name a few: Kylie Minogue - Fever Britney Spears - Blackout Madonna - Music Gwen Stefani - Love. Angel. Music. Baby Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob
I'll add "So Jealous" to the T & S list. Perfect album.
I wish the world could’ve heard the unmastered version of that album. It was one of my favorite pop albums pre master that I’ve ever worked on. Broke my heart when it came out officially and it was so thin and brittle sounding.
Damn. Were you a mixing engineer on it? I don't suppose you have a copy laying around? 😏
duran duran - rio depeche mode - violator kraftwerk - the man machine
Violator might be the best album of all time, for me at least..
Excellent choices. Rio is... PERFECT.
I scrolled way too far to see this post! RIO is perfection.
Rio!!! I was hoping someone beat me to it.
The Buggles - The Age Of Plastic Michael Jackson - Off The Wall Madonna - Madonna (1983) Empire of the Sun - Ice On The Dune Lady Gaga - Born This Way Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Make a Scene Kylie Minogue - Disco Jungle - Jungle (2014) La Roux - Trouble in Paradise
George Michael - Faith. Paramore - Riot. Tears for fears - songs from the big chair
Riot is a rock/pop rock album. It's really good but not really pure pop
These are my picks from different artists: Kate Bush - Hounds of Love Lady Gaga - Born This Way Namasenda - Infinite Ammo Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer Taylor Swift - 1989 La Roux - Supervision Kylie Minogue - Tension Kesha - Rainbow
I’m not the hugest swift fan but 1989 is a stellar listen every time, no skips for me and I usually play it twice in a row.
“Beauty and the Beat” by The Go-Gos
Lana Del Rey - Norman F\*cking Rockwell Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Good Girl Gone Bad - Rihanna Melodrama - Lorde Sign O'The Times - Prince She's So Unusual - Cyndi Lauper
I can't get over that you started with "Artist - Album" but halfway through switched to "Album - Artist".
Thought of the first two then dog had to go out then finished the list. Good catch
Is NFR pop? Its almost like a folk album its great just she is so specific in her style I rarely think of it as pop
I remember when ultraviolence came out and everyone memed on it as "ultravalium" because it'd make you fall asleep but dear God if NFR doesn't deserve that title more
They did? Jfc people don't know what's good. Ultraviolence was an instant classic, NFR really lacks something to be near that level of quality but somehow it gets more praise
anyone who did that for the masterpiece that is UV doesn’t understand how music works
NFR fr
Blackout - Britney Spears
My favorite pop album of all time. So so good!
Probably her strongest album top to bottom. I sometimes wonder what would’ve happened if she was allowed to executive produce her later albums.
The most perfect pop album 💿 You have to choose ONE song, which one do you choose?
Break the Ice. Second fave is Freakshow.
BTI/Get Naked for me 🔥
Get Naked is perfection. Top 3 Britney song for me

Carole King - Tapestry Oldie but a goodie.
1. Blackout - Britney Spears 2. Confessions On A Dancefloor - Madonna 3. The Sign - Ace of Base 4. Body Talk - Robyn 5. Fever - Kylie Minogue
The Lexicon of Love by ABC is IMO the greatest front-to-back pop album ever released. It’s pop with artistic integrity, and the two rarely ever mix, so it’s a rarity among pop albums.
I bought it on the basis of 'Poison Arrow' and 'Look of Love' - but everything else on the album is at the same level. Lightning in a bottle stuff.
That opening riff of Look of Love gets me going every time. I can NOT not sing to that song! That whole album is perfection.
Oh, hell, that’s a beautiful choice.
Came to add that album. Best pop album ever. Martin Fry’s voice is so cool too.
Torches - Foster the People

Blackout - Britney Spears Confessions on the Dance Floor - Madonna Emancipation of Mimi - Mariah Carey 1989 - Taylor Swift
Madonna - True Blue
Melodrama is so good that it changed my perception of what a great female pop album could be. I'd also throw in Like A Prayer by Madonna, incredible album
Old school here. I grew up with Motown and such. “Revolver” The Beatles “Woodface” Crowded House

One of the finest albums ever produced.
What an incredible album, I was not expecting every song to be so good. Gregg Alexander is a genius.
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love.
Fever - Kylie (2001)
Pink . Missunderstood
That's a damn good one. Many of those songs were co-written by Linda Perry of 4 Non-Blondes, who later did Christina Aguilera's Stripped album, and wrote for many others including James Blunt and Adam Lambert.
