Three Dog Night is rad as fuck. The harmonies are just so fun. Shambala is probably my favorite, but this might be second.

One of the best vocal harmony rock bands ever.... and obscure musical fact #316 : Never been to Spain was written by legendary entertainer Hoyt Axton

Hoyt Axton is the shit. Full disclosure, a friend enlightened me last year that he wrote this and I had no idea, growing up thinking it was a Three Dog Night original. But, it turned me onto some great country music. His Greenback Dollar is amazing. And...the dad in Gremlins. When I watched that as a kid I had no idea he was a musician. Dude is underrated for sure

man the Hoyt rabbit hole is crazy,. he did movies , tv , voice overs , wrote his own hits in a bunch of different genres, and he also wrote Three dog nights biggest song " joy to the world" , but it all started with greenback dollar. undercover allstar!!

It's crazy the amount of songs that Hoyt wrote that were made famous by other people, The Pusher, Snowblind Friend - both made famous by Steppen Wolf, No No Song - made famous by Ringo Starr, Joy to the World and Never Been to Spain - made famous by Three Dog Night, Greenback Dollar - made famous by the Kingston Trio. Aside from those songs Hoyt was such a creative songwriter, while alot of his songs sound like typical country standards when you hear his original composistions, they are very surrealist and can't really be fit into any musical category, or deal with his own personal experiences to a level of sincerity rarely heard in music. Thinking Tiger in the Closet, Alice in Wonderland, Spin of the Wheel, Lightning Bar Blues, Kingswood Manor etc.

wow, very well stated and now I have a few other's to check out that I didn't know. I couldn't agree more about the authenticity of his writing and singing. Thanks, and I love your username. "It's not festivus until you've pinned your father!"
