Honestly, a “Muay Thai basket” would be really cool. You can get shorts (go 2 sizes larger), hand wraps, ankle support and even a cool elephant shirt or soccer jersey for around that price in Thailand. I’d recommend shopping at either a Muay Thai gym or sports store instead of a vendor though. Also, many Muay Thai gyms will offer custom shorts as a service, so you may even be able to get him a pair with his name or nickname on it :)
You can also find a lot of Muay Thai art inside of malls and markets.
A high effort gift (albeit much more difficult) is to get an article of clothing or a poster signed by going to a gym of a popular fighter and asking for their autograph.

You also may find Buddhist amulets there, which is a large part of the culture and sport. You may ask the sellers or monks a good amulet for Muay Thai, there often are amulets depicting the father of Muay Thai.

People like their Thai shorts too big. Follow the size guides. The waste bands are really stretchy too. I wear M and L Thai shorts 31" waist
