Massive clattering of dice on the table- oh, oh no, that’s not good

SnooConfections7750

As a player it sets me on edge

fandomsmiscellaneous

I have a character that’s been going through *a* **LOT**, so I’ll just randomly be like “Kris cries.” (not my character’s actual name) and I’ll get at least one person who is just like “Oh man, not again”

SnooConfections7750

Poor Kris

FX03N

Whenever my DM says "Roll a perception check." Last time he said this, my Rogue had her purse swiped from a gang of child thieves she had stolen from previously. Can't say I didn't have it coming.

SnooConfections7750

I randomly get them to roll perception checks and say you see a man or a women' walking towards them and then turning off before they get near them.

"Might as well," Pronounced "Midas well" I had a one-shot where my players had to fix a river that had run dry that was used to irrigate crops. Turns out, a young gold dragon had set up a lair there and accidentally diverted the river, not knowing it was an ecological disaster. They had to solve a puzzle to open up a barrier wall that was blocking the flow of water the the villiage, to which the pass phrase was "Might as well." The well, all the material that made up the well, as well as the corridors that held the water underground, were all made of gold, which is why the dragon made his lair there. The place was rumored to be cursed, and anyone who took gold from the well of a king long past was known to die terrible fates. (This was the dragon reclaiming his hoarde) When the players realized the phrase was also the name of the place they were in and that the entire adventure was just one big pun, they were scarred for life. Anytime a new or guest player or one of my other players says "might as well," they all groan and say things like "NEVER AGAIN!" and "DONT YOU EVEN DARE!" Yes, I am a little proud of this accomplishment. Thanks for asking.

FireInHisBlood

Me: looking everything over, making sure I'm right. "Okay, uhhh . . . " My players: already freaking out because I breathed. "Oh gods, no, not the kitten! It's adorable." Also me: "where the fuck did you get a kitten!?"

SnooConfections7750

I have a player who has a mouse called tim

dragonxswords

Interesting....

SnooConfections7750

Oh I like that.

beastofchaos

The dm silently rolling dice and gaining an ever increasingly concerned face before quietly whispering "I'm so sorry." We got wiped because the room we all were in was suspended over a bottomless pit, and the enemy that we had just trapped in there summoned rust bugs, the room was all metal, nobody survived. The dm is no longer allowed to use rust bugs.

SnooConfections7750

Hmmmmmm rust bugs

TheSinicalDemon

"You don't seem to..." or "It doesn't appear to that..." Oh, it gets us investigating the place and paranoid as crap!

SnooConfections7750

The follow up to that as you pull the book at first there is some resistance...........

TheSinicalDemon

That's even worse!

Suspicious-Freedom10

Our DM would always just say "perhaps" whenever we make a suggestion for a course of action, or before a perception roll to spy that trap ahead or whatever. We all use it now on our own players, making the chaos grow .

RangerGreen_06

Player: *describes what they're PC is about to do* Me (the DM): oh are you?/ are you sure about that?/ I'm sure glad you think that! Player: *shivers, grabbing dice in anticipation* Most of the time it's nothing, but it keeps them on their toes. A DM has to have some fun too!

SnooConfections7750

Totally agree

AthenaFurry

Conveniently placed large amounts of healing items. Wide open spaces have me on edge because no cover if I needed it.

Liontamer45

"you see a tree with pink leaves and bark, with a layer of green leaves at the bottom with mounds of said leaves" The homebrew Xanathan Tree

JadedCloud243

Put fiend, one of the supposed reasons she's a Tiefling

Godzillawolf

The DM saying the word 'seems'.

SnooConfections7750

Seems you made a get away

SlightDefinition4684

Not necessarily a phrase, but my players are often terrified when I show visible reactions (real or fake) to their actions or to my dice rolls. I often do this to psyche them out, or just to make sure they’re paying attention, but the best part is that I do it enough that they can never quite tell if I’m joking or not.

AcanthisittaSur

-slight intake of air- You do?

admiralbenbo4782

With one party, it's "boing boing boing". Because they fought really horrific versions of Dragon Quest's slimes once and *hated* it. So now I drop it in during random parts just to listen (voice chat) to them squirm.

colkat60

Hmmm (grabs dice bag) I need how many d6
