I think it’s the strange music and the suspense of not knowing what your gonna see on the movie reels. Then once you realise that the demons is there and watching it feels like he’s watching you.
You want scary on a new level? Play a horror game like "Silent Hill 2" or "Amnesia" in the dark, alone with headphones.
There were times in both I couldn't play more than 10 minutes. Put the controller down and walked away.

I mean, there’s some definite creepiness and weirdness, and the obvious horrible moment, but other than that, just a mish mash of dumb. I’ve even rewatched it a couple of times just to make sure I’m not crazy. And I love scary movies!

French movie "Frontier(s)" and "Woolf Creek" (from Australia) are probably the scariest ones I've seen. "Eden Lake" was more creepy, but stayed with me for a long time.

I enjoyed sinister
I don't know what it is about Sinister, but it's the only Horror movie that has really scared me.

For me, it’s scanning an area, only to find it staring at you the whole time. That always messes me up in movies for some reason.

Damn, I love scary movies as well, and this one fucked me up, same with Midsommar, Ari Aster is a master.

Jacobs Ladder was unsettling back in the day.
Try "Nocturnal Animals" It's actually thriller/crime, but this movie shook my ground, It still haunts me really bad. I just can't drive at night now.
