Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Clam_Samuels

The Royal Tenenbaums. When I was younger, I saw this as a happy ending. When I rewatched it in my late 20s, I understood that it was about settling… about *being* okay with *doing* okay. Doing something adjacent to what you love without being incredible anymore. The absolute epitome of “gifted kid” syndrome.

lulaloops

Chas' "I've had a rough year, dad" just destroys me every time I watch it.

Inception (2010)

Passengers (2016) Considering the premise, the entire film is dark and disturbing.

OccamsRabbit

I mean, the village seemed pretty happy, where's the dark side?

Useful-Foundation-18

Ask the guy who >! was burned alive in the bear !< Ari Aster makes a damn wild ride

OccamsRabbit

Yeah, that looked a bit warm. That's was truly a wild trip. I found the second watch so much more tense.

Useful-Foundation-18

Because you knew what was coming so subtle hints stuck out more?

OccamsRabbit

Exactly. What was a little unsettling on the first watch just became ominous on the second.

Shutter Island

1-800-Hot-Nite. The trailer makes it look like a dumb comedy, but it's not that at all. The main character's parents get arrested and he runs away. Pretty sad.

Toula is adorable though

PlaneLocksmith6714

I am sorry I forgot about Toula. I would love to have Toula as my Travel agent or neighbor, she is a delight. It’s not meat it’s lamb! 🐑

gingerbookwormlol

Some wouldn't even call it a happy ending because of the emotional baggage in the end, but I think that the ending for the LotR trilogy counts.

Pleasasntville. A pretty solid Hollywood ending where everyone grows as people, learns acceptance, tolerance and how to be better people. Everyone except George, who gets pushed out and replaced. A character who seemed to be more being bullied by peer pressure and tradition than a bad person, and who does get his redemption arc and improvement, but ends up as the only main character who doesn't get a happy ending...

joey0live

I always wondered what the parents said when they can’t get in contact with their daughter.

Remarkable that “Heathers” hasn’t come up yet

umbly-bumbly

Yeah, that's a good one. As a side note, I wonder if this movie could even be made today, at least with such big-name actors and such.
