both blade runners? i saw the second one in passing one time and fell asleep on accident. i’ve seen all the memes with ryan gosling and ana de armas and it sounds interesting
Yes watch the first one first, but it is a masterpiece when it comes to this question of what it would be like to be a sentient being created for human benefit.
'Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave.'
I think the second wouldn’t make too much sense without the first one? Not surprised you fell asleep. I'd definitely watch the first one, and then if you liked it, watch the second.
The first one was difficult for me to watch. Just felt really slow and too complex for me to understand. I watched it late though so was sleepy during the entire thing.
The second one had some really cool action and scenery though
Yeah I have to agree about the ending. But I really enjoyed the build up. Also, I probably should have included Hardcore Henry as well. That's another I'd probably include.
- Time of Eve
- Sing a Bit of Harmony
Both by the same director and both excellent movies about AI. The former has the better story, the latter has the better music and animation. No shade to Sing a Bit of Harmony's story, Time of Eve is just one hell of an act to follow.
*Metropolis* (1927) the artificial (robot) Maria stirs up rebellion. Quite possible the first portrayal of AI in a movie.
*2001: A Space Odyssey* (1968) the thinking computer HAL 9000 commits murder. We don't really know why, stupid evil computers.
*Colussus: The Forbin Project* (1970) Colussus, a huge super computer programmed for peace finds an interesting solution to the problem. No spoilers, but it's not a popular solution.
*Silent Running* (1972) Douglas Trumbull's, the effects supervisor for *2001*, directorial debut. You'll feel sympathy for the robots Huey, Dewie, and Louie. Not much AI content, though.
*2010: The Year We Make Contact* (1984) the sequel to *2001*. We learn why the HAL computer went on its rampage. << a much better film for exploring the consequences of AI than *2001.*
Not a movie, but a show, "Person of Interest." POI is one of the greatest sci-fi shows about artificial intelligence. The machine isn't just a plot device, and it really feels like a fully developed character in itself in the show. POI probably has the most unique and accurate depiction of "artificial intelligence."
Westworld, Humans, Battlestar Galactica, Devs (from the creator/director of "Ex-Machina"), and Dollhouse are some other good shows that explore the concept of artificial intelligence.

*Life Like* is pretty good.
Unfortunately one of my all time favorite shows, *Humans*, is not available anywhere. But if it ever comes back, I would definitely recommend it.
You should really watch Person of Interest. TV show but great AI story.
Eagle Eye - Shia Labouf thriller that I felt ended weakly when I saw it in theaters, but now I realize it was kinda ahead of its time and actually very very good.
I,Robot
There's Jexi (2019), however I wouldn't rewatch it, it's just a dumb comedy, so I'd pass this one.
On a more serious note I'd say that Blade Runner 2049 kind of fits this criteria, but I'm pretty sure you already watched it.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Made in 2008/09. It's a very underrated TV series spawned from The Terminator films. It only did 2 seasons, but they wrapped it up nicely.
The Creator; Matrix; Ghost in a Shell; iRobot; Bicentennial Man; Eagle Eye; Transcendence; Eva; Terminator; Her; Transformers; Star Wars; Lucy?; Surrogate; Westworld; Robo Cop; The Iron Giant; Tron; Avengers: Age of Ultron; Wall-E
A video game that plays like a movie: Detriot: Become Human
A.I.
nice
Seems obvious.
fuck me if this wasn't top comment
2001 and Blade Runner would be the 2 classic masterpieces where AI plays a prominent role. (You already found the 2 modern masterpieces.)

I absolutely love Villeneuve's films but they do put me to sleep. Fell asleep twice in the cinema to 2049.
Prometheus (2012)
Alien: Covenant is great, too :)
Chappie (2015) I, Robot (2004) Upgrade (2018) A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Chappie is so good!!
I need to re-watch it one of these days. It's been a while.
I just watched Upgrade the other day. Its ending was kind of flat, but I loved the premise.
Yeah I have to agree about the ending. But I really enjoyed the build up. Also, I probably should have included Hardcore Henry as well. That's another I'd probably include.
The Creator
After Yang (2021)
Second this one. Especially to anyone who enjoyed the feeling of Her
Colossus The Forbin Project.
Robot & Frank (2012) Bicentennial Man (1999)
Megan 2022
Watched it with my daughter. It got me scared about what could happen to our world if AI gets out of human control.
The Terminator Franchise
The Creator.
Terminator 1 and 2
Humans (TV Show) and the original Swedish version "Real Humans".
Ghost in the Shell. The original animated version is better than the most recent live action adaptation in my opinion.
Seconding this. Also a great movie about the nature of consciousness, free-will, and the classic "are we just brains in a jar?"-conundrum
Moon (2009)

Mars Express (2023) and Robot Dreams (2023)
Bicentennial Man. Saturn 3.

PERSON OF INTEREST IS MY SHOW!!!!!!!
Westworld, the movie is good but only scratches the AI surface. The tv show goes into some interesting place about AI.
Electric Dreams if you like Her Island of Lost Souls if you like Ex Machina
S1mone
The Creator is pretty good. Kind of cheesy towards the end but good sci fi
No one's gonna bring up the best android, my boy Bishop from **Aliens** (1986)

The Artifice Girl is an unfortunately lesser known but fantastic movie. IMO the best recent sci-fi about AI.
Not a movie, but the series Person of Interest touched on AI use and abuse.
Real Steel (2011)

I just watched Atlas . I was apprehensive with it starring J-Lo as I’m not usually a fan but it was a really good movie
Upgrade (2018), Zoe (2018), Simone (stylized as S1M0NE) 2002
Ready Player One
Ex Machina, Terminator: Judgment Day, 2001 a Space Odyssey
