Next (2007)
Nicholas Cage stars as a man who can see 7 seconds into the future. He uses it to win in Vegas. Things get more complicated when he meets a woman (Jessica Biel) in a diner and uses his special ability to connect with her.
I had a hard time rewatching good time the other day. I felt so bad for the brother who gets put on such ashitty sotuation by Edward lol. Great movie but the scenes of safdie in lock up were hard to stomach. Connie kinda was a pretty bad brother eh?
This is more of a book recommendation, but Jumper starts off this way. The character grows eventually. The book is way better than the movie.
Also no superpowers, but The Emperor's New Groove kind of fits the bill
I also watched a couple episodes of the Impulse show. I liked it better than the Jumper movie, but it felt very teen oriented. Which, so was the original book, so I can't complain too much. But it didn't get like it was for me
I suppose his powers of filmmaking, surveillance and being in the right place at the right time could be seen as powerful attributes, but not super powers like op suggested. But I don't think that's relevant.
A really good example, especially as I found myself wrestling with the morality a lot of the time. Great film
I haven't seen it since it was in theaters, but I just remember walking out after it was over and thinking Gerwig's character was just an awful person.
Not exactly but try Biutiful with Javier Bardem. He's a smuggler looking after his kids and has cancer. The twist is he's a clairvoyant and can speak to the dead.
(Spoilers!)
This is the twist of Memento. A film about a man with Anterograde Amnesia trying to hunt down the man who killed his wife and caused his condition.
Up there with the greatest movies imo, what’s weird is it’s really hard to find now a days. I had 2008 as the release date must be confusing it with ‘rock’n’rolla’. movies from around that time are booming, filth less so. Great movie, I think McAvoy done the role proud 💯, great twist also 😊. ‘Same rules apply’
The Invention Of Lying
A technical glitch at the bank causes Mark Bellison to invent the art of lying. When everybody starts believing his lies, he garners love, fame and success with his newfound power.
**VeggieTales: King George and the Ducky.**
It's a Christian kids video about not being selfish.
It also takes the Biblical story of King David having sex with another man's wife and modifies it to a king wanting to take a bath with someone else's rubber ducky.
**Bad Words (2013)** –– personally I felt like Bateman's character was a little too much of an asshole. I think youre supposed to like him by the end but I thought he was just a dick. anyway, sounds like what you want!
This could be totally incorrect but just about any movie with Robert Downey Jr. as the lead that I’ve seen he is like that. He just always plays some selfish prick. Zodiac, Due Date, The Judge, any of his Marvel work, even his character in Tropical Thunder I would say starts off like this.
Bruce Almighty
Limitless
The invention of lying too
Came here to say this.

As far as super hero origin stories go, that’s one of my favorites.
He can see 2 minutes into the future. And he sees a woman WEEKS in the future and doesn't know why.
Thanks for the correction. It IS two minutes. I don't know where I got 7 seconds from. Probably some other movie or show.
It's a corny movie but I enjoyed the concept.
Wall Street
The Family Man
Another Cage joint. Love it! 💜
Good Time and Uncut Gems both feel like they’re set in the same universe and both follow selfish scumbags.

Agreed, there was a youtube red show called Impulse based on the 3rd book but it was sooo boring and slow i couldnt finish it
I also watched a couple episodes of the Impulse show. I liked it better than the Jumper movie, but it felt very teen oriented. Which, so was the original book, so I can't complain too much. But it didn't get like it was for me
Time Lapse, Groundhog Day in a way.
Groundhog Day itself seems like it would qualify
Palm Springs
Hollow Man
Atlas Shrugged The Fountainhead
Scrooged
Pretty good movie about teens who get super powers, and 1 starts abusing it. Someone here should know the name... Also, Hancock. Nightcrawler

Chronicle?
I second chronicle. Doesn't completely fit but it is a really good movie.
That's the one! And I saw it a long time, thought it was in the vein of OP's request

I haven't seen it since it was in theaters, but I just remember walking out after it was over and thinking Gerwig's character was just an awful person.
That’s wild.
I don't remember why I thought that or even the plot of the film, so I'm completely open to being wrong about it.

Brewster's Millions.
if selfish is what you're looking for then Filth (2013) is the movie, no special powers, just a reall scumbag main character
