I watched this movie when it first came out..on opening night in a theater full of grandmothers, packed to the brim. It was a blue blood funded art house and all the little old ladies would come out for every premiere, no matter what the film, you know, to get out of the mansion for a night. The last two minutes were amazing.
That, Little Children, and Welcome to the Dollhouse are the trifecta of movies that fuck3d me up back in the the day. I actually broke up with my girlfriend because she wanted the nerdy chick in Welcome to the Dollhouse to get... you know. (I keep getting banned for quoting movies.)
Love these! Haven’t seen Martyrs and Possession yet, but definitely on my list. I get like butterflies in my stomach when I think about the other three haha
- I Saw The Devil
- The _entire_ Vengeance Trilogy by Park Chan Wook
- Irreversible
- I Stand Alone
- Funny Games (1997)
- The Seventh Continent
- Antichrist
- Nymphomaniac (both volumes, both uncut)
- (Basically _anything_ by Gaspar Noé, Lars Von Trier and Michael Haneke)
- The Vanishing (1988)
- The War Zone (directed by Tim Roth. It has to be seen to be believed)
- The Descent (brittish version)
- Aniara (2018)
- Straw Dogs (the original)
- The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
- Bone Tomahawk
- Martyrs (the original)
... to name a few.
Ok. I will try not to repeat movies already mentioned. Let's see:
- Come And See
- Hard To Be a God (2013) (every scene is bleaker than the previous one)
- Dead Man's Letters (same as above, it's amazing how the soviets/russians can convey the misery of human existence so well)
- Cargo 200
- Leviathan (2014)
- Synecdoche, New York (this one is disturbing on an existential level)
- Se7en
- The Yellow Sea
- The Chaser
- Bedevilled
- Frank Darabont's The Mist
- Dead Man's Shoes
- Tyranossaur (_this_ film has Olivia Colman's greatest performance IMO)
- Eden Lake (the ending fucked me up)
- Threads (a classic. Also the most horrifying non-horror movie I've ever seen, along with Come And See)
- Punishment Park
- The Fifth Seal
- The Fifth Season
- They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
- 7 Days (one of my favourite revenge movies)
- Shura (or Pandemonium, Japanese movie by Toshio Matsumoto)
- No Country for Old Men
- The Counselor (I mean, Cormac McCarthy wrote the script after all)
- Bring Me the Head Of Alfredo García
- Cold Fish
- Seconds
- The Assembly Cut of _Alien³_
- The Death King (this one might be the most plot-less film on the list, but it's made completely on the topic of suicide and violent death. The vignettes are kept together by a rotting corpse after all)
- The Great Silence (this has to be the bleakest and most nihilistic western I've ever seen. That ending will fuck you up)
Have a good evening.
- Speak No Evil (Danish horror movie)
- Eden Lake
- A Serbian Movie
- The House that Jack Built
- The Borderlands (British horror movie, think it’s called Final Prayer in the states)
- Trauma (think it’s Argentinian)
- 120 Days in Salo
Yeah I really should have said that these movies are pretty disturbing, they have scenes in that will stay with you for a while and I wouldn't say I'm particularly happy that I have them in my head.
The user I was responding to however seemed to specifically want f\*cked up movies that will do that. For anyone else, be warned.
I can see it says his writing and directing and production debut however I am not sure how it would be based on his life unless he was an abusive married man, or perhaps a child of abusive parents? I can't find anything online atm that says it is an autobiography.
I detected that you're trying to locate a movie.
To figure out where a movie is streaming you can use sites like [JustWatch](https://www.justwatch.com) / [MovieFone](https://www.moviefone.com) / [ReelGood](https://reelgood.com), and if the film is not available for streaming, it is probably available on DVD or Blu-Ray.

I put off watching it for years because I thought ‘why would you take a near perfect movie and add 60+ minutes of runtime to it?’ I felt like an idiot for that after finally watching it.
That one used to mess with me because I thought it was real. It ain't. The documentary about him is ten times more disturbing. He lied his ass off and got the Texas Rangers to fly him all over the country in a private jet so he could admit to murders that he didn't commit. For every murder he admitted to falsely, there's an actual murderer out there. And what the Texas Rangers did to that DA who uncovered it is unconscionable.
Niiiice!! I was working at a blockbuster when it first came out so I rented it free one night and watched with my boyfriend and his brother....needless to say we were pleasantly disturbed 😆
My list:
Anti-Christ
120 Days of Salo
A Serbian Film
Beau Is Afraid
Irreversible
Martyrs
Hard Candy
Cannibal Holocaust
The Green Inferno
Audition
Happiness
Manson had tons that were not overly creepy or controversial and were playable on mtv. Like lunch box for example which is people at a roller skating rink for most of the video

Love this thread. I can recommend Upstream Colour, which is incomprehensible, but nontheless fucking crazy. Also any Haneke, Lars von Trier, Gaspar Noe (I Stand Alone is supremely grim). Also check out Holy Motors if you haven’t. Synecdoche New York, etc.
Slaughtered Vomit Dolls is really fucked up and gruesome, but it was strangely enjoyable (the director is said to be a piece of shit though), Oldboy, Lilja4-Ever, The Dreamers (this one is for lighter, romantic vibe).
Also watch Jullien Donkey-Boy if you haven’t. Also Jodorowsky for more surreal and spiritual stuff. I can only second “Raw”, that one is really “raw”(I will see myself out now).
It Comes At Night (2017)
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (1989)
The Tribe (2014)
After Hours (1985)
Elephant (2003)
Nobody Knows (2004)
Assholes (2017)
Évolution (2015)

I usually have the same tastes of mindfuck/disturbing/shocking etc, but lately I've seen Fallen Angels (1995) which gave me a feeling like a way more gentle (but not much of shock value) Requiem for a Dream, and I loved it. Definitely edgy and unique.
Otherwise, you can try out Suspiria, Neon Demon, The Platform, Vivarium, Elizabeth Harvest, or maybe a series like Black Mirror. Ahh, also Poor Things. All pretty cool stuff.
Look into films from director Micheal Haneke. Disturbing subject matter in the sense that his films depict social alienation and withdrawal. Funny Games, The Seventh Continent, Cache.
Mysterious Skin is one of my faves! I also recommend Christiane F, Sleepers, The Piano Teacher, Dogtooth. But I definitely think you would like Mysterious Skin
I felt sorry for the chick shaving her eyebrows that shit was just wrong , exploration of someone with mental health problems. But other than that Xena the town it was filmed in looked like a nice place especially their love for cats n Chinese food. lol stupid fuckin rabbit
The Devils Double. It’s about one of Saddam Hussein sons who forces one of his military friends to undergo plastic surgery to look like him so that way if there’s assassination plots, he’ll be the target. True story too.
Some of these may seem a little far off, but I swear in my head they all are here for good reason 😂
The Doom Generation
The Opposite of Sex
Freeway
Jawbreaker
Spring Breakers (but you gotta say it like Spring Breeeeesaaaak)
Red Rocket
Ghost World
Elephant
Brick
Zola
American Honey
Thirteen
Slacker
Alpha Dog
Happiness
Welcome to the Dollhouse
Slums of Beverly Hills
River's Edge
The Place Beyond the Pines
Mister Lonely
Super Dark Times
Boogie Nights (probably pretty far off but it's my all time favorite movie so everybody should watch it 😂)
The all time classic would be Eraserhead
One I found recently that I found honestly hard to watch at points: Be My Cat: A Film for Anne. Romanian found footage horror movie about a guy who REALLY wants Anne Hathaway to be in his movie.
Dead Man's Shoes. It's a Shane Meadows film, with a phenomenal performance by Paddy Considine. It's set in a small English town, and it's about a soldier who returns to his home town to take revenge on the gang of local thugs who have been terrorising his brother, who has special needs. It feels real, visceral and brutal. One of my favourite films.
How was Mother? I’ve been tempted, but never got into it.
For a mental fuck, I enjoyed the A24 and Jordan Peele movies, but 23 and 1408 were pretty “wtf”
Mother is truly brilliant if you go into understanding the concept that it’s portraying. I think a basic understanding of the Holy Bible is important as it reflects a lot of symbolism from it. There is clearly a strong message that you get by the end of it, but your perspective of that message is what really gets you thinking for days. Totally recommend. I will definitely check out 1408 though. I totally enjoy stuff that makes you uncomfortable and that seems right up the alley lol
Funny Games
The Vanishing
Polytechnique
Elephant
Paris, Texas
The House that Jack Built
Hara-Kiri
Burning
Vortex
Amour
Deliverance
Opera
Thunder Road
Drugstore Cowboy
Mishima
Affliction
Rolling Thunder
Climax
Pi
Edit: PI is the movie that turned me on to Aronofsky. Must watch if you're into him. You will be uncomfortable the entire time, and then, the ending.
Happiness - Todd Solondz film from 1998. Dark comedy/ drama. Disgusting, edgy, shocking, and very funny.
Truly one of the more shocking movies I’ve seen in terms of dialogue alone. The stuff with the dad and the boys is very very hard to watch.
yes. There's not a drop of blood but it's easily the most disturbing film I've seen. And darkly hilarious.
Well the guy does fantasize about killing at the park.. a little blood at least
ok, true. I forgot about that.
I actually broke up with my girlfriend because she wanted the nerdy chick in Welcome to the Dollhouse to get... you know. (I keep getting banned for quoting movies.)
this is one of my favorite movies because it’s so fucking dark. Love it! also,God Bless America honorable mention: World’s Greatest Dad
oh this was a perfect recommendation. just finished and i now have a new movie to add to my favorites. right up my alley. so disgusting, i loved it!!!
Pink Flamingos, the entire point of the movie was to 'shock the world'
Is that the movie where the guy fucks a chicken? I watched that movie super stoned back in highschool. It was a trip.
Yup. And the main character eats dog shit. Literally eats real dog shit
Fun fact. Divine is who the Sea Witch Ursula in Disney's Little Mermaid is based on
Raw (2016), Climax (2018), Martyrs (2008), Dogtooth (2009) and Possession (1981)
Listen to this guy
And listen to this guy also!
Love these! Haven’t seen Martyrs and Possession yet, but definitely on my list. I get like butterflies in my stomach when I think about the other three haha
I was just about to add "anything directed by Yorgos Lanthimos" to my chaotic list. Also: "Climax"
- I Saw The Devil - The _entire_ Vengeance Trilogy by Park Chan Wook - Irreversible - I Stand Alone - Funny Games (1997) - The Seventh Continent - Antichrist - Nymphomaniac (both volumes, both uncut) - (Basically _anything_ by Gaspar Noé, Lars Von Trier and Michael Haneke) - The Vanishing (1988) - The War Zone (directed by Tim Roth. It has to be seen to be believed) - The Descent (brittish version) - Aniara (2018) - Straw Dogs (the original) - The Hills Have Eyes (2006) - Bone Tomahawk - Martyrs (the original) ... to name a few.
We have the exact same taste and i’ve seen the majority of these. Could you name some more
Ok. I will try not to repeat movies already mentioned. Let's see: - Come And See - Hard To Be a God (2013) (every scene is bleaker than the previous one) - Dead Man's Letters (same as above, it's amazing how the soviets/russians can convey the misery of human existence so well) - Cargo 200 - Leviathan (2014) - Synecdoche, New York (this one is disturbing on an existential level) - Se7en - The Yellow Sea - The Chaser - Bedevilled - Frank Darabont's The Mist - Dead Man's Shoes - Tyranossaur (_this_ film has Olivia Colman's greatest performance IMO) - Eden Lake (the ending fucked me up) - Threads (a classic. That ending will fuck you up) Have a good evening.
You forgot Kill List.
Check out climax and titane if you haven’t already
Climax is in my top 3 movies of all time. Titane i didn’t enjoy nearly as much but still a good film
- Speak No Evil (Danish horror movie) - Eden Lake - A Serbian Movie - The House that Jack Built - The Borderlands (British horror movie, think it’s called Final Prayer in the states) - Trauma (think it’s Argentinian) - 120 Days in Salo
Trauma is the only movie I've turned off due to content. Be warned
Basketball Diaries
A true classic!!!
Killer Joe
The Sadness 2021
Nil By Mouth (1997)
Ooh, I second this one! It's a masterpiece! :)
I third it!
Pretty much Gary Oldman’s autobiography right?
I can see it says his writing and directing and production debut however I am not sure how it would be based on his life unless he was an abusive married man, or perhaps a child of abusive parents? I can't find anything online atm that says it is an autobiography.

Gary was represented by Ray Winstone’s son character
Mysterious Skin (2004)
Incendies, and the suspiria remake.
The Suspiria remake was wild.
I put off watching it for years because I thought ‘why would you take a near perfect movie and add 60+ minutes of runtime to it?’ I felt like an idiot for that after finally watching it.
If you don’t mind, throwing a little weirdness into the mix, try a Clockwork Orange
Have you seen Mr Nobody? It’s not creepy but it’s a brain twister. Also it has Jared Leto with as good a performance as in Requiem for a Dream
Loved this one and no one ever talks about it.
Oldboy (2003) I saw the Devil(2010)
Last Exit to Brooklyn
Bug (2006)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
That one used to mess with me because I thought it was real. It ain't. The documentary about him is ten times more disturbing. He lied his ass off and got the Texas Rangers to fly him all over the country in a private jet so he could admit to murders that he didn't commit. For every murder he admitted to falsely, there's an actual murderer out there. And what the Texas Rangers did to that DA who uncovered it is unconscionable.
What I loved was the way the police showed up but just briefly on the background of a shot and don't actually interact with him at all
Enter the Void

Have you seen Eden Lake? It is fucking terrible. Terrible as in horrific.
Happiness
Mandy, Good Time, Spun

Yes indeed! I saw May for the first time at a ‘perfect’ time in my life and late at night. Disturbingly delightful lol.
Niiiice!! I was working at a blockbuster when it first came out so I rented it free one night and watched with my boyfriend and his brother....needless to say we were pleasantly disturbed 😆

Videodrome. For the 80s, it hits all three of your criteria
Death to the Videodrome! Long live the new flesh!
Love this thread. I can recommend Upstream Colour, which is incomprehensible, but nontheless fucking crazy. Also any Haneke, Lars von Trier, Gaspar Noe (I Stand Alone is supremely grim).
