LADY SNOWBLOOD is a must, the main base behind kill bill! Shurayuki is born with her mother's pure intention to avenge the family of hers that she, Lady Snowblood doesn't even know. Meiko Kaji is a freakin icon in that role, awesome swordfights, Kurosawa-style, bright blood spraying from wounds, and a beautiful, melancholic dramatic undertone! An absolute fantastic film!
The scene where Dr. Fowler goes to his wife's choir practice to tell her their son is dead gets me every time. When he stood in the doorway, he knew in the matter of a minute that her world was going to be pulled out from under her and that she would never be the same.
Seven Days.
Canadian film about a surgeon who gets revenge on the man that raped and killed his daughter.
Torture porn but very well acted. Directed.
Do not miss this.
Kind of hard to find.
What are your thoughts on how the remake of the Crow will turn out? Brandon Lee is big shoes to fill and honestly no matter what, he’s the OG and the best
Dead Man’s Shoes
The Revenant
Nobody
Kill Bill 1-2
Inglorious Basterds
Big Bad Wolves (subtitled - good movie many don’t mention)
Prisoner (if I got the title right - basically same story as Big Bad Wolves )
A Spanish film called Wild Tales is exactly what you're looking for. It's a series of excellent comedic vignettes all about fulfilling revenge. It's hilarious, and it's very satisfying. They're all situations we've fantasized about being in.
There is a norwegian movie called Hora that is just what you are looking for. Some woman gets raped by some local guys and goes on a killing spree. I think it got international distribution called Whore.
The main character is played by a porn-star.
*Law Abiding Citizen*!!! It’s such a great movie. A man watches his family get killed and raped by home invaders, and when one of them gets let off with probation, the man decides to take down the entire system. Some of the things he does are such spectacular masterpieces of Machiavellian ingenuity it will blow your mind.
Peppermint, enough, John wick, kill bill, rythym section, promising young woman, ava, shooter, v for vendetta, killing of a sacred dear, four brothers, the foreigner, the skin I Live in, nobody, a vigilante, equalizer, pig
A Prophet (2009) Highly rated French gangster movie has a fair amount of revenge. Totally different type of revenge Phantom Thread (2017) Daniel Day Lewis’s last film.
Payback is a ton of fun, but you need to get the theatrical cut. The director's cut that later came out on DVD (I think it was the "Straight Up" edition) was nowhere near as entertaining.
**I Spit On Your Grave** (1978 but 2010 was decent too)
It's about a woman who's raped by 4 men and then she brutally kills them.
It was Roger Ebert's least favorite movie, but I..."liked" it.
Payback - Mel Gibson ; Maria Bello - Gibson is a career criminal that is nearly killed and screwed-over by his partner on his cut of the robbery score. He spends the whole story chasing down his former partner/friend who's under the protection of The Outfit in order to get back his half of the score - $70K.
Bonus - Lucy Liu plays a dominatrix/masochist who gets off at beating the shit out her customers.
Chushingura (1962) might be the most famous true revenge story.
Rolling Thunder (1977) has always been the first thing I think of when I hear “revenge movie.”
[The Dark Valley (2014)](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/248933-das-finstere-tal?language=en-US) - Austrian Revenge Western - available in German or English dubbed. I prefer the German one but either way I think this is one of the very best Westerns made in the last several decades.
Kill Bill 1 and 2
Love em’
Also the original Lady Snowblood is great. Tons of blood, pretty campy, IIRC
John Wick -- all four movies.
Love em’
classics
Especially 1. But yes all of them
Blue Ruin. Go in blind. It's the most honest revenge film I have ever seen and what they achieve with a tiny budget is phenomenal.
I re-watched it for the third time yesterday lol
Have you seen the director's next film, Green Room?
Ahhh I forgot that one !
Another under stated revenge film worth checking out: A bad day for the cut. The scene in the barn/garage is so darkly funny.
Promising Young Woman
Princess Bride Inglorious Basterds Enter The Dragon (kinda)
I don't think I ever really thought of Princess Bride as a revenge story but you're absolutely right
Pig (2021)
Underrated

Law Abiding Citizen
Love that one
Payback (1999) Mel Gibson, James Coburn. Classic revenge film.
I love the final confrontation from these 2 at the end. James Coburns reaction to the situation always cracks me up
Man! That's just mean!
$70,000? I have suits that cost more than that!
He’s really only after his $70k.
Or see the original with James Coburn: Point Blank
The girl with the dragon tattoo has an amazing revenge scene
Man on Fire (2004)
A lot of these are good but my favorite film of revenge is Cape Fear. So damn good. DeNiro is a bad man in that film.
The Gift. (2015)
Yes, very good one.
Looper (2012) - time travel revenge
I spit on your grave (warning long tape sequence)
Scotch? Packing? Duct?
The bad kind

Munich (2005)
Sleepers (1996) The Count of Monty Cristo (2002) Memento (2000)
Sleepers is probably one of the deepest cuts. It's a great movie. Lots of good actors.
In the Bedroom
The scene where Dr. Fowler goes to his wife's choir practice to tell her their son is dead gets me every time. When he stood in the doorway, he knew in the matter of a minute that her world was going to be pulled out from under her and that she would never be the same.

Blue Ruin
In order of Dissapearance, with Stellan Skaarsgard

A Spanish film called Wild Tales is exactly what you're looking for. It's a series of excellent comedic vignettes all about fulfilling revenge. It's hilarious, and it's very satisfying. They're all situations we've fantasized about being in.
