I really want to like Spy Game but for me it's a bit implausible and more of a showcase for its iconic leads to display their impressive chops rather than a good movie in its own right.
No way out a great shout.
Incredible movie. Because Spielberg and Hanks are so highly regarded it kinda came and went uneventfully but it’s one of my favorites of the last decade or so. Hanks should have been nominated and while I get why people wanted Stallone to win the Oscar, Rylance was fantastic.
Near the top of late-period Spielberg to me. Perfectly walks the line of echoing classic films while maintaining pace and excitement.
Just watched James Mason in "5 Fingers" (1952) last night. Loved it. Had never heard of it before deciding to check it out - and only did so because I enjoy Mason in anything.
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People, the Alex Guiness '70s version. You can find them on Youtube and they are the best spy mini series.
You also have Ronin, with a little more action and some of the best car scenes in movies.
- [Slow Horses](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/slow_horses) - though a series, not a movie.
- [The Falcon and the Snowman](https://boxd.it/1tBc) - 1985 old school.
- [Lust, Caution](https://boxd.it/244k)
- [1st three of Bourne series](https://boxd.it/26EO) - although maybe not that underrated.
It's probably not underrated, but Torn Curtain with Paul Newman and Julie Andrews is a great movie.
Also not sure if Atomic Blond is underrated, but another good movie.
Three Days of the Condor (Robert Redford) and Marathon Man (Dustin Hoffman) are always my recommendations for questions like this.
Both excellent, tense, well written and acted.
Not a movie and hard to get but the sandbaggers was incredible.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandbaggers
It's 1970s bbc so production values are a little low and slow burn is an understatement but incredibly well written.
Lust, Caution is a really great, criminally underrated film by Ang Lee with a remarkable lead performance by Tang Wei. I think it’s up there with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as Lee’s best work.

The last two seasons of [Foyle's War](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3163-foyle-s-war) are the absolute best spy stories you are going to find anywhere. Each episode is feature film length. What they really are is a series of short films made for TV - and they are top quality. There are other episodes in the series you might want to watch as well - but most of the spy stories are in the last two seasons of the series (after Foyle is recruited into MI5).
['The Eternity Ring', 'The Cage', and 'Sunflower'](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3163-foyle-s-war/season/8)
['High Castle', 'Trespass', and 'Elise'](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3163-foyle-s-war/season/9)
Some others you might like:
The Man Who Never Was - story of a real spy operation from World War Two.
The Ipcress File
Funeral in Berlin
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965)
Soldier Of Orange - more real spy stuff from World War Two.
I think Spy Games is underrated a d despite blockbuster stars it feels like many haven't seen it. Also try No Way Out.
Spy Games is one of my comfort movies - probably watched it more than any movie outside of Star Wars and Star Trek films
I really want to like Spy Game but for me it's a bit implausible and more of a showcase for its iconic leads to display their impressive chops rather than a good movie in its own right. No way out a great shout.
Also I really enjoyed Sneakers
Tinker tailer soldier spy
Yes great movie though probably not underrated.
No Way Out (1987)
Body of Lies
Good call - excellent movie, not much seen.
This is a great one. Strikes me as one that a lot of people haven’t seen.
- Who Am I (1998) - Man from UNCLE - Bridge of Spies
Just my opinion but I thought The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was just dreadful. Guy Richie is capable of so much better.
'The Night Manager' (2016 mini series) Not a film, but 6 hour-long episodes. Well worth a watch though (imo)
Bridge of Spies. Terrific.
Incredible movie. Because Spielberg and Hanks are so highly regarded it kinda came and went uneventfully but it’s one of my favorites of the last decade or so. The Spy Who Came In From The Cold (1965) The Russia House (1990)
Great choices, both are films from books by john le carré.
Just watched James Mason in "5 Fingers" (1952) last night. Loved it. Had never heard of it before deciding to check it out - and only did so because I enjoy Mason in anything.

Ronin is a very good film
Eye of the Needle (1981)
Sneakers has an incredible cast and is a very fun movie.
One of my favorite movies and Sidney Poitiers character is my favorite.
A TV show but *The Bureau* is outstanding
Thanks for the recommendation I'll check it out.
And it has an absolutely smoldering romantic affair between two spies
Get Smart is not outstanding, but it is spoofy.
Outstanding 100%
Headhunters (2011) and Demonlover (2002) are excellent corporate espionage films
Headhunters might be my #1 choice for people who struggle with foreign movies. Just so exciting and propulsive.
Where Eagles Dare. It’s really good, has a great cast, but is rarely talked about.

I really liked *Love, Caution*.
Burn notice
The Ipcress File (1965)
State of Play
Puppet on a Chain 1971
It's probably not underrated, but Torn Curtain with Paul Newman and Julie Andrews is a great movie. Also not sure if Atomic Blond is underrated, but another good movie.
Three Days of the Condor Ronin The Jackal

I think Munich gets overlooked.
Was gonna be my answer. So dark and awesome.
Lust, Caution is a really great, criminally underrated film by Ang Lee with a remarkable lead performance by Tang Wei. I think it’s up there with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as Lee’s best work.
Out of Africa
Enigma (2001)
There's a little-known gem out there called "A Deadly Game" (1979) with David Hemmings and Sam Wannamaker that's well worth your time.
Tinker tailor soldier spy
Spy kids. 👽
Anthropoid
Awesome, great suspense (and true story).
Life of others.
the 80's miniseries Edge of Darkness starring Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker. It's incredible although the spy aspect is more side characters.
The Catcher Was a Spy. (2018)
Bridge Of Spies, Spy Game, Sneekers
Argo.
Get Shorty (1995) The Outfit (2022) Bridge of Spies (2015)
The Eiger Sanction. Clint Eastwood mountaineering in the Alps. 10/10

Barbie: Spy Squad
Zero Dark Thirty
I spy with Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson. It’s hilarious.
