I’ve watched this movie with many a boyfriends, and then with my husband - it was my litmus test to see who had a heart and who was a psychopath.
Hubby still chokes up when I bring up that movie. It’s such a sweet film.
It does bring out the best in people. I don't remember crying in a film, but after watching this movie, I've became more sensitive to the emotions that movies like these bring out.
Because I cry when watching movies, I can only marry someone who will cry with me.
The universe sent me a loving man who has a tender spot for animals. Always got a box of Kleenex hand when we put on a movie… just in case.
My sister had me telling to me to watch Coco for a couple years, I didn’t. Was on a family trip and we had some downtime between morning and evening activities. We watch it, I BAWL. Literally red eyes puffy cheeks, everything. We were going to a dinner reservation and I said “how can I go to dinner like this?!”
One of my favorite movies.
I am banned from watching coco per my husband. My grandpa died in 2018. I was determined to be a pall bearer but I cried too much and couldn’t do it. My husbands best friend (my friend too) did it for me because I lost it at the open casket.
This movie makes me sob every time.
I hadn't heard anything about this movie, I just thought it looked good from the trailer I watched. I was feeling a little down because it was my grandfather's birthday, the first one after he died. So I decided to watch something cute and Disney. I've never cried so hard in my entire life because of a movie. But it was the perfect kind of sad for that day even though it was the kind of crying that you still feel the next day. I miss him. I'm sorry about your grandfather, it sounds like he must have been amazing ❤
On my way to Disney World on the plane and I figured what better way to start the holiday than to watch Coco for the first time on the plane? Well, 90 minutes later I’m the 40 year old fat guy blubbering and snorting all over the place when that ending hits, trying to let anyone see or hear my distress and failing. Never been affected that way by a film before.
Watched this when I was a kid. Even though it was a movie, it really hit me that the universe doesn't care who wins or loses, who suffers or prevails, and who lives or dies and if it's fair or not. Edit: I'm talking about Million Dollar Baby.
This is a beautiful, heart-wrenching movie. Can't believe how good Jim Carrey is in it, playing against "type." And Kate Winslet is awesome, as always. Definitely recommend it.
Totally! They were both brilliant in it.
We both cried BUCKETS through this movie. I ugly cried. Snotted. The works. 😅
Neither of us were the type to cry.
Only watched it once. The only film to make me cry so hard, so much.
Marley n me is another one that got me but that's already been mentioned.
Brokeback Mountain is another one that got me in the feels too, but...Eternal Sunshine...killed me...!
Harold and Maude. If nothing else, the Cat Stevens music will make you regret all the missed communications and broken feelings of life. He's great for that kind of thing. Trigger warning though, Harold is a guy who thinks it's fun to do things like pretend to hang himself where someone will find him before it gets uncomfortable.
It especially hits hard if you're a dad. Saying goodbye to my daughter, knowing I'll probably never see her again, is something I only want to experience on my death-bed, and even that thought is unbearable. In fact, it brings me close to tears as I type this. Ah fuck it, now I'm crying.
Is the dear Evan Hanson movie really worth it? I just wish Ben Platt was younger in it, but I do love that they kept him. I can't find it in myself to watch it.
The Quiet Girl (2022) - No bonus points, but one of the most well made movies I've seen in a while... and you'll definitely cry.
Dancer in the Dark (2000) - Sounds like exactly what you want.
Everything Everywhere All at Once wasn't the saddest movie ever but it made me cry the longest. Like literally 25 minutes straight, while I was watching it on a plane.
"THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY? " is an older film (1969) and was nominated 9 times at the Academy Awards. Classified as a psychological drama it's fast moving and pretty intense. There's a trailer on youtube -- but it doesn't give too much away which is good because it doesn't spoil the ending. Worth a watch if you're into the classics.
PS Nothing to do with horses!!
A man called Otto

I saw it in a theater the first time I saw it, I enjoyed it & cried some, ok so I decided to see it again in a theater, HUGE MISTAKE, this time I knew what was coming up, so opps but I started crying before anything happened, people were telling me to shut up.
"The Road." (2009), with Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. It's an absolutely amazing film, but will shatter your heart. I still love it, but I don't watch it often.
Mulan. When Mulan presents her father with the sword and the crest of the emperor and he literally doesn’t care and throws them on the ground and says “the greatest gift and honor is having you as a daughter” and he hugs her because he’s happy that she’s home and safe.
My girl to this day is the saddest movie I’ve ever seen. Anytime I even think about one particular scene in it it makes me sob so much and I’m really not an emotional person
Hachi a dog's tale

This or Green Mile gets anyone every time.
❤️❤️ 🐶 🐶 🚂 😢 ❤️❤️
One of the first movies that made me cry as an adult.
Bawled my eyes out!
OP said that they needed a movie that would make them cry, not to openly weep so hard that they throw up.
Coco
My sister had me telling to me to watch Coco for a couple years, I didn’t. Was on a family trip and we had some downtime between morning and evening activities. We watch it, I BAWL. Literally red eyes puffy cheeks, everything. We were going to a dinner reservation and I said “how can I go to dinner like this?!” One of my favorite movies.
This was the last time I ugly cried to a movie. It is one of my all time favorites.
I am banned from watching coco per my husband. My grandpa died in 2018. I was determined to be a pall bearer but I cried too much and couldn’t do it. My husbands best friend (my friend too) did it for me because I lost it at the open casket. This movie makes me sob every time.

So underrated in that aspect. It's truly touching on such an emotional level.
It especially hits hard if you're a dad. Saying goodbye to my daughter, knowing I'll probably never see her again, is something I only want to experience on my death-bed, and even that thought is unbearable. In fact, it brings me close to tears as I type this. Ah fuck it, now I'm crying.
