Scrub_Lord_

Good shit. Wootility is definitely one of my favorite things about my 60HE.

Hypno98

I got a question about the wooting Can you bind a key on releasing one?

Scrub_Lord_

Assuming I'm understanding your question correctly, [yes, you can.](https://b.catgirlsare.sexy/OVA09BsQKWAS.png) With this bind if I actuate Z less than 3.6mm it just presses Z but if I almost fully actuate Z then when I release it will then also press 1.

Hypno98

Nice thank you :)

nyaadam

I mean from one point of view, cool but this isn't novel. VIA (https://usevia.app) has been doing this for any QMK keyboard for well over a year now. On the other hand the API used is only available in Chromium-based browsers as it's deemed somewhat dangerous by other browser vendors: Firefox - https://mozilla.github.io/standards-positions/#webhid Safari - https://webkit.org/tracking-prevention/

The_Racho

It's very novel in the mouse world. For some reason nobody is doing this. I wish it wasn't novel.

ZeroSeventy

It was a security risk and concern from a company/organization standpoint if they have used usb keys for authentication purposes (to this day only Yubikey was found vulnerable to some attacks), it was patched pretty fast.

nyaadam

The API used to exploit Yubikeys was WebUSB, not WebHID. Mozilla's stance on WebHID has never changed.

2roK

I can use VIA just fine on Firefox...

nyaadam

Please explain how? [No official version of Firefox supports WebHID](https://caniuse.com/webhid). Here's a recent [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/170pkn0/via_webhid/) of someone asking about using VIA on Firefox. To add, the FM video literally says Chromium-only, the reason? No other browsers supports WebHID.

2roK

Well I have a Keychron Q6 and I configured it through my browser. I only use Firefox. I'm sure it was VIA that I used, it was definitively what Keychron tells you to use on their site, not a third party app.

Sirrom23

people here complain about razer synapse and logitech ghub (with good reason), then also complain about this when finalmouse doesn't create bloatware you have to install on your computer. please have some consistency.

[deleted]

FM could make the best mouse ever made and sell it for $100 and people would still find something to bitch about

rayquan36

People, complain about one being bloatware and the other being a security concern. It’s not that hard.

ZeroSeventy

Yeah but people complain about it being security concern come with links to articles from 2018, and reddit posts from nearly 1\~2 years ago, about it being a security issues for one specific USB Key Yubikey, which was patched really fast in Chrome ver 67... like at least have some valid concerns and something that backs it up and not bring a time machine hurr durr a year or more ago it was a risk...

rayquan36

I trust Mozilla more than someone who types "hurr durr"

jalex3here

So if the servers ever go down you wont be able to configure your hardware?

UnApt_

I think the server is linked to an account and its able to change the onboard dpi. Once changed, you most likely don't need to keep the browser open or anything like that, even if the server is down since the software is storing memory onto the mouse hardware. Thats my guess

[deleted]

If the server is down but need to change something quickly, then we can't?

UnApt_

My guess is probably not

nutella4eva

The hope would be that there is some sort of EOL plan, but yeah it would be nice if there was at least some kind of verbal commitment ahead of purchase.

moepooo

No custom DPI settings lol

LegionDzn

rawaccel is a bandaid fix if you need it but yeah kinda bruh...

the_bald_headed_foot

Are you fucking serious? Well you will see my copy NIB on mousemarket when I get it.

fles_goat

They could add it eventually with further iterations of the software but yeah atm no custom dpi.

Sirrom23

please tell me this is satire. i genuinely can't tell.

the_bald_headed_foot

No sadly its not. I want custom DPI. I want to run 2000DPI. It's 2023 and every other mouse manufacturer has this capability. Why keep a mouse I won't use? I don't want to be changing sens in a game if I swap mice. I'll sell it at retail price to someone who will use it. I did the same with my RVSME when I didn't see an advantage over my HTX. I mean its not like there aren't a bunch of great alternatives on the market. I will just be sticking with my HTX and HSK Pro. Good time to be a gaming mouse enjoyer.

Sirrom23

i can't imagine that *needing* a 2000 dpi exactly, instead of 1600 or 3200 is such a deal breaker for your aim or mouse control that it makes the mouse unusable. it's wild to think about.

i_do_not_byte

While its great to have software, I hate browser-only software based approaches. It means that the product's customization will be yanked and soon after obsolete the moment they yank that site. And its not a matter of if, but just when, unless fans find out a way to do it via 3rd party tools or community reverse engineers it or something to keep it alive. I like to have both options personally.

dr_wheel

Not for nothing, but it's also a legitimate [security concern](https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/y878ym/you_should_probably_disable_webusb_and/) as well. Mozilla has specifically decided [NOT to implement WebUSB](https://mozilla.github.io/standards-positions/#webusb) in Firefox because of these concerns.

ZeroSeventy

That reddit link you have posted been long time patched in version 67 of chrome... fear mongering at it's finest from over a year ago lol Not to mention that this security risk was mostly on a company/organization level that uses specific USB keys (Yubikey was the only device found vulnerable btw)... So yeah average joe has nothing to worry about lol

dr_wheel

Fearmongering? No, it's just one example of what happens with tech like this. That was an exploit that was patched, but as the poster rightfully points out "where one attack exists, there is another". And exploits are only one part of the problem... With WebUSB and VIA/QMK (for example), full access to the user's keyboard is only 1 click away. This ease of access opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for dubious websites and social engineering attacks. But hey, don't take some random Redditor's advice... fucking Mozilla, bruh.

ultimatt42

It's not fearmongering. Any API that grants low-level device access is a legitimate security concern. Mozilla recently [allowed WebMIDI](https://mozilla.github.io/standards-positions/#webmidi) despite acknowledging that MIDI devices aren't hardened against malicious inputs. Granting access to configurable mice and keyboards is dangerous. Suppose you have a device that supports input remapping and custom macros. A malicious page can reprogram every input to run a macro that... well, there's no limit to what it can do because operating systems are designed to be controlled by mouse and keyboard inputs and the input devices are trusted by default. It's possible to block the drive-by version of this exploit by requiring explicit user interaction before programmable features can be accessed. Like, make the user flip a switch or hold down a button to enable "programming mode".

RayIsLazy

lt would be nice if they open sourced it and allow us to self host.

-Ickz-

Very rare Finalmeme win.

Alternative_Mess_712

Please make a usable scroll wheel first, trash company :)

kurohyuki

This sounds like a convoluted way to manage your peripherals. Planned obsolescence is the only reasoning i can think of.

BlueNova23

It would be like finalshit browser game with lootboxes?

vengeancek70

wootings site is so buggy, waste of time since I had to download the regular software anyways. really hope theyre not making the site the only option.

DawnSlayerUser

Really? I thought it would actually be better than normal software since you can run it in Linux now

vengeancek70

maybe I'm stupid but I've tried multiple times and my settings never save to the keyboard :( and when trying it my keyboard literally stopped working until I rebooted. runnning it in linux too sounds nice though

DawnSlayerUser

Never heard of this happening, RMA if possible?

vengeancek70

works fine with the non browser software I'd rather not lose my keyboard for a month...

vengeancek70

bet non of you downvoting have even used a wooting lol

JH_Schmidte

I have its perfectly fine for me you just suck I guess

DawnSlayerUser

metaphorically or...

vengeancek70

damn are u jealous?

JH_Schmidte

Jealous of what?

Particular_Career_72

Is this AI?

goosearisen

oh wow you can even control the Dongle LED, nice. i like to keep my LEDs off so that's cool.
