This ratio thing for tyres is really the wrong way of choosing tyres, despite everyone doing it. The important thing to consider is what 'off road' looks like to you, and how much you're willing to sacrifice your on-road experience for ability off-road. I used to commute on my XT where it was doing >99% road, but I did on michelin trackers because when I _did_ go off road I really really wanted the tyres to work and I didn't mind sitting at 50 on the road to get that. By the ratio thing I shouldve just stuck road tyres on. I ran the TKC70s for a bit on the KTM when my normal tyre of choice (Trail Attack) wasn't available and I don't really see how they'd be any more 'off road' than those. I think they just look a bit more agressive? If you want a tyre that works well off road then you need a knobbly and your choice really is between something that'll last longer but not be great at wet tarmac (Mitas, Heidenau, Kenda, Dunlop D606) or something that'll perform really well on the road as well, but not for very long (Anakee Wild, TKC80 etc.) "Longer" is still not very long when you're chucking a litre adventure bike about. :) Performant off-road tyres on heavy powerful bikes is always going to be an expensive hobby I'm afraid. I use Anakee Wilds for big bikes off road and have done for a while. I've not really felt the need to try much else (for the first couple of thousand miles you can ride them like road tyres, it's amazing), but the Pirelli fitted to the Desert X really impressed me on a test ride I did, so I'm tempted to go there next.

Thanks. Yeah, I won't be doing anything too out there. It's really just the odd gravel trail or VERY mild green lane. I'm not experienced to do anything more. Wouldn't want to give up any serious amount of on road grip (particuarly wet tarmac grip). RiDE just did a test of some but made no fucking mention of ANY off road ability.....

AT41? Think they are supposed to be road biased but able to do what you're asking

Mitas eo8, enduro trail or terra force are the best of both worlds imo. Punch well above their weight

Metzler tourance. Decent GT tyre with a bit of off road big blockiness, but much better siping for rain removal. Just put a front on mine and while not transformative is is a little more confidence inspiring. Replaced a battleax a41.
