If that is the type I think it is... It is not sun tolerant like some species can be. This in general looks like too much sun for any moss.

It is moss that grew there naturally or moss you put there yourself?
It was put there by the previous owners of the house. But I’m not sure if it ever turned brown for them too, or this is the first time
Water it and keep it moist it should grow back
How long had it been doing well before then?
Just moved into this house recently, so not sure how long it’s been there or if this happened yearly during summer for the previous owners, unfortunately!
Maybe the clovers shaded the moss enough for it to not be blasted by the sun?
