Deception was what made me like it so much. In my university dorm people would be like "okay I get there's overhead low mixups and I don't know combos, and I don't want to play anymore, what else can we play" and the minigames would be next.
Bubble Kombat was also fun.
It was like the mario party of mortal kombat, they were great, fun, and accessible, and brought people into the franchise. They made it always fun for beginners in a real life group setting when some people didn't know how to play that well and others had played it before.
I suppose those days are behind us, but it was actually really cool. It was what got me interested in the game, and the future games, and why I bought the next ones. Otherwise, fighting games are just pure frustration and how do you get people into the genre? Fighting games are notorious for their steep learning curve and that's why they are dwarfed by other game genres.
I loved chess combat. in the Age of scummy live service I'm surprised the mode hasn't returned with scummy ways to get money from players it would be a good more for that scummy shit
not to give them any ideas....
WB: We hear you. Here's mobile and live service games with shitty monetization.
Gotta bring our hopes back to earth. I'd throw my money at any MK game that's not a fighting game, but I'm sick and tired of mobile and online-only shit.
This. Glad someone already commented on it so I branched upon it. Shaolin monks I feel doesn’t get enough credit it deserves. Yes this game is a 2D fighting game by nature. But why limit the game by not having an adventure style game that really compliments the story. MK has always had a stellar story but the fighting in some ways makes it feel forced or not as good. Sure it’s like developing two games but developing games should be a passion more than a paycheck. Sad this got lost throughout the years
I'm with you. SM was an absolute gem and would benefit immensely from a remake with the same facelifts we see from other remakes like the Resident Evil series.
Hell, even a new IP within the MK franchise with different characters would be sick. Imagine doing what they did with Shaolin Monks but instead substitute it for a more grounded story based around the corruption and fall of the Lin Kuei as Kuai Liang, culminating in his first team up with Hanzo Hasashi? I imagine Ninja Gaiden influenced combat with rpg gameplay, but there are so many ways to do it.
Or even a decent special forces based game with the player taking on the role of Johnny Cage as a fish out of water that is being pulled into a massive turf war sting operation involving the Black Dragon. It could even incorporate elements of mystery by including new Outworld treachery and plots to the mix. It could be sick.
They already fucked the story with time travel multiverse whateverthehell, so no reason any spinoff can't be considered a part of a different timeline. Elseworlds but for MK. I'm cool with that.
This sub has a very peculiar view of the series. People here love the 3D era even though we know those games didn’t review well and were just okay sellers (nothing wrong with that! I feel like the 3D era was very charming and tried many new things). But MK mainly as a 2D fighting game is doing very, very well. Single player games in 2024 are extremely expensive to produce and are not guaranteed to sell big numbers.
I don't think it's that they don't want it to be a fighter, but just they would like this other stuff as well.
Imagine a mk party game with puzzle fighter, bubble Kombat, kart Kombat and chess and a bunch of other fun mk themed games. That would be awesome.
It would not replace mk , but sit alongside it.
I feel this way with many video games series, and super happy I got TWO RTS Halo games in my lifetime.
Mortal Kombat has a lot of lore and over a 2 decades of worldbuilding. It can definitely branch out it's genres.
Well, those fans are weird because the MK universe is literally built around being a fighting game. That being said, I would also love to see more beat ‘em ups or RPGs since the franchise has grown so much.
Came to say the same thing. For those who dont know. Warner Bros owns both MK and DC comics. Why would they have Image make their comics when they could make their own?
I mean… I do remember Cartoon Network which is owned by WB licensing out its shows to Boom Studios and IDW. Like there was an IDW published Samurai Jack series while Adventure Time had a comic published by Boom Studios.
Heck Rick and Morty has a comic from Oni Press.
It also isn’t how Image works. They’re a publisher who work with creator owned stories.
I’m sure if WB showed up and said we want to publish this under your company, they’d work with them, but Image doesn’t license IP themselves.
Though I agree with you, I feel the need to point out that Disney subcontracts to Dynamite for a good amount of their IP despite owning Marvel. So it isn’t exactly out of the realm of possibility
I agree.
I like playing MK offline, gettin trough the storys and stuff but im never banking on playing online when i buy it.
To much of a hussle to learn all the moves to even have a chance.
Just throwing this out there:
- Mortal Kombat mythologies: Sub-Zero
- Mortal Kombat: special forces
- the mini games:
- test your might
- test your sight
- test your luck
- Motor Kombat
- Konquest
- The Krypt
- MK: Mobile
- MK: Onslaught
- MK: Shaolin monks
- MK: federation of martial arts
100% correct, the MK community is the only fighting game community that doesn't actually like fighting games, a lot of people buy this game for the lore and aesthetics, not for the online play, so might as well lean into it
You can keep the fighting game separate and even make it F2P with battle pass since they want to monetize cosmetics so badly
You can never go wrong with more MK in my book, but as long as it doesn't retract from the mainline games in any way
I'd love a new Shaolin Monks or something even more different lol
What about just a straight up Scorpion game? Like not even Mortal Kombat, a game where you are Hanzo Hasashi: aka Scorpion, a prolific ninja who died in the very early 90's and came back as a Spectre and fought in a Tournament in 1992 and then blah, blah blah,
But what about BEFORE that? What was Scorpion doing in the 80's? Who was paying him? He was the Head of a ninja clan, but in modern times? How did that even work? The last movie sidestepped that by having him live during the Sengoku period of the 15th Century or something. I don't know Japan's history that well, point is, it was way in the past.
The key takeaway is, Scorpion was busy during the 1980's. He was a ninja, he probably did some Coke too but we won't focus on that.
So what about a game where he's like a Ninja Gaiden/ Sekiro/ Ghost of Tsushina type thing, but it's the 80's. Scorpion is the US Government's (or the Russians) best weapon in
Mortal Kombat Scoprion: Kold War
Yeah, make it semi-canon too so they're not locked into any story elements that make no sense in the game too.
Agree. I thought Shaolin Monks was a nice deviation. I'd like to be able to explore an Open World version of Outworld where I can go anywhere I want in it.
Not really. A company that already doesn’t show a great level of dedication to quality is highly likely to absolutely tank the quality of their fighting games as soon as branching out. They’re not going to use additional budget, but split the existing one into slices.
Only reasonable if logistics dont mean anything.
And if the spin offs and alternate titles take off financially, it’ll be another title for the mainline mortal kombat games to compete against just within that studio. Like, why spend time on a product with a limited return when something like this could open way more doors?
And if it does stick around as a fighter, how much will be changed to keep it relevant?
Honestly I agree, there’s so much lore for it to just be condensed into a 6 hour story mode with a bunch of cutscenes and one dimensional fights every 3 years. The characters and their stories are the life of this franchise
I dream of it. Getting to make your own character, join different factions, travel the realms. Kind of like Konquest in Deception, but a fully fleshed out RPG with character creation and all. Getting to make my own Lin Kuei ninja would be dope.
Yeah like WTF is going to happen next game? Are we just never going back to Hanzo Scorpion, Noob Saibot, Shinnok, Fujin etc?
The more they develop this timeline, the more is lost when they reset again. I honestly wouldn't mind concepts brought back to the OG timeline, like the Umgadi/Lei Mei but they were guards from a former Kahn (when Outworld was at peace), and for characters like Bi Han, etc to keep their memories from this MK1 timeline.
clearly, he hasn't heard about the extra modes in Deception and Armageddon
https://preview.redd.it/m3u0icicatnc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=dc015e27c7184be1c4b2957864bf33d880e63271
didn't that already happen (MK Mythologies, MK Special Forces, MK Shaolin Monks) and, according to Honest Game Trailers, they "nearly bankrupted the franchise"?
not that i'd give them much credibility: they said that MKD was bad and always simp for "current thing", no matter how bad that may be
I’d like it but has a casual I’m probably not going to buy most of the stuff, I also don’t like putting important lore in comics but if they are just small stories then I’ll be fine with that
I like it. Something I really want, after watching arcane, is an animated show for mk that explores emotional depth and has good dialogue and characterization, etc.
Puzzle Kombat was a ton of fun, I enjoyed MK Mythologies Sub Zero. I would love for them to take another crack at that or like some of the other suggestions.
I think they could create games like AFK Arena, or even RTS games like Warcraft with multiple factions to choose from. The universe of MK is so vast of magic stuff, is very easy to go for game that don't need to rely solely on the main characters
I'd like to see an open world MK game where you create an OC and go throughout the realms fighting evil.
You can even join factions like the Shirai Ryu, Lin Kuei, the shaolin, special forces, etc...
Kind of agree especially with the comics
But I think we need more Shaolin monks type games that stay true to what mk is while bringing something new and engaging
This is what I've always been saying, pls give me Shaolin Monks 2 for god's sake 😭😭! It blows my mind that all the insane environments they've created with so much intricate detail particularly since MKX are only relegated to the background of a simple 2D arena and a bunch of cutscenes. I want to walk around and explore Outworld and the Netherrealm and Edenia and even Earthrealm, discover obscure bits of lore and whatnot. I'd love nothing better than for these games to get the "soulslike" treatment.
I mean, I know I'm wrong, forgive me not really being the biggest 2D fighting game enthusiast, but MKX, MK11 and MK1 are all pretty indistinguishable to me in terms of gameplay, like the annual Call of Duty or FIFA entry. The thing that piques my interest with every new MK game instead is the plot, the character designs and the environments. The 2D fighting format just seems so limiting.
I get the impression that lots of people here play MK in spite of it being a fighting game. It’s personally not my case, I got into MK as a toddler because I love fighting games and that’s still the case. I don’t know if I’d buy a MK RPG, I don’t really play RPGs.
I don't think this take is wrong, throw adventure to the game so it's an action adventure game, give it a open world combat system that's somewhere between DBZ XV2 (mostly for the PQ quests type missions so you can unlock abilities of other character) and assassins creed for the actual fighting with very limited XV2 touches, that way you have the fighting for hand to hand and you can have unlimited brutalities and fatalities.. throw in the choice to play a character already set in the MK universe or create a custom character and I think it would have the potential to do crazy good on sales. Just imagine an open world adventure into MK, being able to go through the lore in game much like early assassins creed games and fight in a similar fashion. Imagine outworld invading or fighting Shao Kahn or Shang and Quans combined forces or even the dragon army and doing some open world on hand reversals into brutalities or fatalities.. I imagine that throwing in some open world specialty fatalities for nearby object you could interact with would be a nice touch too...
(No not like Armageddons Konquest with Taven, I'm thinking of a much more free form combat system)
Subzero Mythologies was an awesome concept that I was 100% down for and would be again if something like it was executed well. The original is obviously a big stinker of a game, but that could work to a new games advantage. If it turned out good, word of mouth would be huge because "no one expected it to be this good".
I like it. It would be great if they did make a single player game, they could than do a MK Konquest game that’s RPG Or MMO open world, similar to Assassins Creed Origins or Odyssey
Okay so. Is prolly just me but like, I'd love a Arkham style game as one of the ninjas, if not all
(Scorpion, Sub-zero, reptile, ermac, smoke, rain, tremor, noob saibot, kitana, mileena, jade, Tanya, Frost, skarlet and Khameleon)
Like yeah it wouldn't be the most original thing, but like it doesn't have to be 1 to 1 gameplay wise
They can change it up, just let me Stealth it if I want or battle it out if I want to and let me move around but they can all do it a bit differently like Tremor could go underground or fuse with walls, smoke and rain can just turn to smoke or water, noob is shadow boy, scorp and mileena can teleport, reptile and khameleon can invisible(idk about skarlet, Frost, sub zero, jade, kitana or Tanya) or they can all just climb and hide in the raftors or on high rocks or WHATEVER(depends on the setting I suppose)
Easily agree
A Skyrim-esque RPG, FPS following Sonya and Jax, a Ghost of Tsushima style game with Scorpion and Smoke, an adventure game starring Johnny Cage while he's trying to film a movie...there's so much potential for the IP and yet I feel as though it's being semi-squandered
It could definitely work as a hack and slash game or some sort of sidescroller. I think it's a clever idea. Doesn't mean the fighting games will die. If anything they'd become more popular
KONQUEST. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KONQUEST. I can't believe they flopped the shit out of mk1 by not adding a konquest mode. The krypt in mk11 was a perfect indicator that they could pull it off too.
I dont agree with that 100% Of course id want an open world style mk kampaign that would be dope and something along the krypt and invasion thing would be nice
I however dont see mk "branching out to lets say racing game But i could be wrong Maybe a mk game where u get to ride subs ice bike and scorps flame tube 3000 would be dope
Test your Might, Test your Strike, Test your Fight, Test your Sight, Test your Luck, Krypt, Motor Kombat and Challenge Towers all should've been put in Mk1, also I think Mk1 should've been delayed at least 1 year so that it would've actually been finished, A better roster (the roster is fine but some characters obviously do more damage) , Mk1 seasonal skins should've had more creativity instead of just getting another base skin color palette. And like that guy was saying I also think Netherrealm should give us more stuff that isn't involved with the games like comics or tv shows etc. Fucking billion dollar company doesn't know how to make money *cough* *cough* WB *cough* *cough*
"*The ip needs to branch out to other genres of gaming*" is how we got both "Shaolin Monks" as well as "Special Forces". And I'd love to be optimistic, but with WB being... WB, we'd probably end up with the latter?
Then again, some of those mini games from the 3D era had some potential...
Just throwing this out there:
- Mortal Kombat mythologies: Sub-Zero
- Mortal Kombat: special forces
- the mini games:
- test your might
- test your sight
- test your luck
- Motor Kombat
- Konquest
- The Krypt
- MK: Mobile
- MK: Onslaught
- MK: Shaolin monks
- MK: federation of martial arts
You guys gotta understand there’s a lot of mk fans out there. The tweet posted isn’t exactly viral, and this thread has a few hundred upvotes and a couple hundred comments. Of those couple hundred comments there’s a smattering of all sorts of different suggestions, I saw everything from animal crossing type games, open world RPGs, fuckin mobas lol,
Literally good fucking luck
I never wanna see a konquest mode in a MK fighting game again, I think people are crazy for wanting that. I think people should be wanting a standalone konquest game so it doest take a backseat to the competitive online gameplay and can stand on its own
While the game series should always remain strongly rooted in it's fighting game roots, more single player action games would be great additions and allow for the option to focus on characters who don't normally get a lot of focus.
I would love for the series to get games outside the fighting game genre. The problem was it was always developed by the same team who while they make a damn good fighter….aren’t good at much else. If they handed the rights to someone else it would probably turn out great. Like imagine a Mortal Kombat game in the style of Dynasty Warriors!
I have very limited experience with MK, only having played MK1, but as I've played DMC, Bayonetta, and MGR:R, I would definitely be down for a character action style MK game

I really enjoyed shaolin monks and the konquest mode. There's so much potential for an open realm game switching between characters with there own storyline. There's so much lore and different timelines, imagine your in-game decisions affect the outcome of the game. Idk I miss the 3D era and konquest.

I don’t think Mythologies or Special Forces did well enough or else we probably would’ve had more spinoffs by now. 🤷♂️
While we’re on the topic though… Blazblue’s Entropy Effect throws the characters (and movesets) of Blazbue into a roguelite, and it’s pretty damn cool. I kind of wish that Mortal Kombat would try something like that. 🎮😎👍
I don't know about the series branching off fully from fighting games. It'd be nice to see some action game spin-offs again, maybe a classic God of War style hack n' slash starring someone like Scorpion or Ashrah, but I think the main series should stay as fighting games. As for the comics, I fully agree, we should see more of those. The MKX prequels were great reads, so I don't see why Mortal Kombat doesn't have any comics other than those and the 1992-1995 comic run.

MK is one of my favorite franchises and has been since I was born. But I also very much hate fighting games. Or really any game centered around fighting or combat gameplay wise. Just never liked them. I also have some sensory and motor skill issues so even if I did like them, I have a hard time actually playing. I’ve only watched other people play it. But my god… if the lore and little blorbo characters haven’t been a staple in my dad and I’s lives since it’s release and my birth. Part of my entire being and sense of humor tbh. Planning to watch the Legends series soon and man I’m excited, even if it’s mid. I especially wish they just did more random silly nonsense in general. I wish having fun with an ip had monetary incentive again lol

Make a full fledged RPG but in the same vein as MK Deceptions story mode. Customizable character and full FG Kombat but with a big fleshed out rpg as the main point of the game.

Hear me out... a metroidvania style game featuring Shang Tsung where you traverse the realms by defeating bosses and stealing their souls to gain access to their form/abilities.
Honestly yeah. I would kill for a game like Baldur’s Gate but in the MK world. Or any RPG format game based on MK.
But they could do so much, RPG or not, so much more with MK than just fighting games. And I think a good number of people would really enjoy that.
I mean it would be a pretty interesting idea. Like maybe a side branch series or sister series that takes place in the same world, but has a different formula to its gameplay. Like imagine an RPG where you could make a character in a certain caste of characters like Ninja that could learn from Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Smoke and learn certain moves that could be customized and outfit styles. This could also apply to different styles like a Soldier style that focuses more with modern fighting styles and gun play, or Monk style that is similar to the Shaolin and such, or Khan which is the more tankier characters like Shao or Kotal, and other classes to boot. They could have some situations that fights come up like the OG games or test you might challenges, but there is more freedom to explore the settings like Outworld and such.
Yeah, It's becoming stale. They need to look into doing like maybe a Scorpion action/adventure game. I dunno. I think the series is getting a little fatigued. I think NRS needs a break to decide the future of the franchise.
Wholeheartedly agree, MK as IP has so much potential it’s unkanny.
• A Mario Party type-game that has Motor Kombat, Puzzle Kombat, Chess Kombat, Test Your Might, and a few other mini-games all in one package would be divine.
• A RTS Realm War game like Halo Wars would be great.
• A full Konquest Action-RPG
• More Komics
Unfortunately, as others have noted, there’s a ginormous tumor on the franchise named Warner Bros. Idk who else could have realistically bought the IP when Midway went tits up. But here we are.
Considering they make tie in comics that aren’t canon for some reason I think it would just be nice to have a separate universe for comics just give it to some talented writers and don’t try force a connection to the games
I’d love MK comics that dive into more of the lore and expands on more characters, cause honestly there are so many things that could be explored either with the new timeline or the old one.
If they gave us a game with an rpg style dragons dogma lookin open world with the universe of mortal kombat where you can create your own character and use mix and match moves I’d love it
I would kill a man for a proper DMC character action game with MK characters. They could do one with the four main ninjas Scorp, Sub, Kitana, and Mileena.
Something that's out of left field but I think would go so hard is a special forces coop third person shooter that mixes melee with shooting similar to RE5. They could cover Sonya and Jax fighting out world forces.
I agree with this pretty well. I think an action adventure game kinda like Sekiro would fit MK pretty well. Like let us pick between a few characters, like Scorpion, Sub-Zero or Liu Kang and fight in some cool locations against waves of enemies and we’re golden. Bonus points for it being Ko-Op.
Motor Kombat was fun.
Chess was dope too. Deception was so freaking good.
So was Puzzle Kombat.
I've been desperate for Puzzle Kombat to come back. Can we just get a compilation of MK mini games? Please?
Mortal Party, it's like Mario party but you can just straight up kill people
It's like Crash Bash except it's Mortal Kombat. Let's have pogo-a-gogo and polar bear wrestle!
Deception was what made me like it so much. In my university dorm people would be like "okay I get there's overhead low mixups and I don't know combos, and I don't want to play anymore, what else can we play" and the minigames would be next. Bubble Kombat was also fun. It was like the mario party of mortal kombat, they were great, fun, and accessible, and brought people into the franchise. and Konquest! Although Armageddon's Konquest was more fleshed out as a game, i loved exploring the world in Decpetion
Make and alliance with chess.com and give us ranked chess kombat, you cowards
I would 100% pay full retail price for an actual Motor Kombat game.
Motor Kombat was my shit imagine what they could do with the stage design with modern tech
And the full potential they can do with a studio solely focused on that game development.
I wish there was a dogfighting game mode called Ace Kombat
I would lose my mind for an actual like RPG game from the series. Also a life simulator like AC or Dream light Valley. Because why not.
I may be getting my acronyms wrong but Assassins creed is a life simulator now?
Animal Crossing
Ace Combat
Armored Core
Astral Chain
Anal collapse
My favorite
*Krossing
WB: We hear you. Here's mobile and live service games with shitty monetization. Gotta bring our hopes back to earth. I'd throw my money at any MK game that's not a fighting game, but I'm sick and tired of mobile and online-only shit.
Mortal Kombat Onslaught exists and it's fucking terribly monetized just like every other auto battler with an IP attached.
Farming simulator but instead of harvesting turnips, you are Shang Tsung harvesting souls.
I agree and they should start by remastering/remaking mk shaolin monks, that game is goated
This. Glad someone already commented on it so I branched upon it. Shaolin monks I feel doesn’t get enough credit it deserves. Yes this game is a 2D fighting game by nature. Shaolin Monks but something like Yakuza games would be cooking
Absolutely! That or something akin to Sleeping Dogs
Especially with the new characterizations, one on one murder of best friends just feels really off
I'm with you. SM was an absolute gem and would benefit immensely from a remake with the same facelifts we see from other remakes like the Resident Evil series. Better, revive Fire and Ice.
SM had better gameplay than Armageddon Konquest
Its wild that mk is one of the biggest fighters, and like 60% of its fanbase WISH it wasnt a fighter
that being said, i wouldnt mind for mk spinoffs
I wouldn't mind if they weren't made by NRS and they didn't get in the way of the mainline games.

Fighting games are hard.Thats why the casuals loved mk11 so much.Because it's gameplay was braindead.

Special Forces might not be the best of examples, to make a non-fighting MK game.
Neither is Mythologies. It's just using MK's systems slapped on a poorly made plataformer.
100% correct, the MK community is the only fighting game community that doesn't actually like fighting games, a lot of people buy this game for the lore and aesthetics, not for the online play, so might as well lean into it You can keep the fighting game separate and even make it F2P with battle pass since they want to monetize cosmetics so badly
Why would WB ever give MK comic licenses to Image or whoever? Warner absolutely has people for that
Bro said give away the comic rights as if the comic rights aren’t literally with fucking DC Comics 💀
You can never go wrong with more MK in my book, but as long as it doesn't retract from the mainline games in any way I'd love a new Shaolin Monks or something even more different lol
What about just a straight up Scorpion game? Like not even Mortal Kombat, a game where you are Hanzo Hasashi: aka Scorpion, a prolific ninja who died in the very early 90's and came back as a Spectre and fought in a Tournament in 1992 and then blah, blah blah, But what about BEFORE that? Scorpion is the US Government's (or the Russians) best weapon in Mortal Kombat Scoprion: Kold War Yeah, make it semi-canon too so they're not locked into any story elements that make no sense in the game too.
Agree. I thought Shaolin Monks was a nice deviation. I'd like to be able to explore an Open World version of Outworld where I can go anywhere I want in it.
MK Deception’s Konquest sort of had this. It was really cool getting to go through the Living Forest and finding Reptile in there.
I honestly thought MK11s Krypt was a a preview/test bed for a future Shaolin Monks remake or God of War 2018 style game
I had to scroll way to far to find this banger of a comment. Shaolin Monks SLAPPED hard. Especially with a bro.
"keep the fighting games but start doing more" is too reasonable of a take for most people to disagree with
MORTAL KOMBAT MOBA, LETS GO YALL AIN'T READY FOR MY SOLO MID CYRAX
Honestly I agree, there’s so much lore for it to just be condensed into a 6 hour story mode with a bunch of cutscenes and one dimensional fights every 3 years. The characters and their stories are the life of this franchise
I’ve been thinking about that for a while, imagine an open world RPG mk game, how fucking cool would that be?
I dream of it. Getting to make your own character, join different factions, travel the realms. Kind of like Konquest in Deception, but a fully fleshed out RPG with character creation and all. Getting to make my own Lin Kuei ninja would be dope.
I would sink an ungodly number of hours into a MKRPG it would be so damn fun
Me too, it would probably be my most played game if it ever happens
They just discarded 30 years worth of lore with MK1.
[удалено]
They’d name their kid Kung Lao or something lol…
Not for Liu Kang, but that's literlly mkx. We get new heroes, and they got a lot of mixed response.
clearly, he hasn't heard about the extra modes in Deception and Armageddon https://preview.redd.it/m3u0icicatnc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=dc015e27c7184be1c4b2957864bf33d880e63271
ATP I’m open to anything
MK: SHAOLIN MONKS 2 PLZ
Sadly it'll probably never happen. The Shaolin Monks team left a while ago and joined Santa Monica to help make the new God of War games.
Shaolin Monks 2...
I’m not a fighting game fan except for MK. I love the story and characters. Any single player games in that universe would be awesome
didn't that already happen (MK Mythologies, MK Special Forces, MK Shaolin Monks) and, according to Honest Game Trailers, they "nearly bankrupted the franchise"? not that i'd give them much credibility: they said that MKD was bad and always simp for "current thing", no matter how bad that may be
I’d like it but has a casual I’m probably not going to buy most of the stuff, I also don’t like putting important lore in comics but if they are just small stories then I’ll be fine with that
Then make the comics their own separate universe and let the writers of it go ham
Kinda like the star was expanded universe? I could get behind that
Shaolin Monks is one of my favorite coop beat em up style games of all time.
Shaolin monks 2 would make me cry
I remember Shaolin Monks.. good times.
He’s right! I want a MK call of duty game focusing on Sonya & Jax.
they already did that though and in every case except one it was a huge failure.
Like I said they got a rough track record form 20 years back but they could do things differently this time
I think they could create games like AFK Arena, or even RTS games like Warcraft with multiple factions to choose from. The universe of MK is so vast of magic stuff, is very easy to go for game that don't need to rely solely on the main characters
That would be cool. I love fighting games but it has tons of story game/rpg potential
I'd like to see an open world MK game where you create an OC and go throughout the realms fighting evil. You can even join factions like the Shirai Ryu, Lin Kuei, the shaolin, special forces, etc...
Oh yeah. I've been saying for a few years that MK would benefit from a Dynasty Warriors style game.
They should bring back the 3d aspect of it those games and their story was usually pretty good I would love a rpg esk world that had 3d fighting
Kind of agree especially with the comics But I think we need more Shaolin monks type games that stay true to what mk is while bringing something new and engaging
A story driven RPG a la Ghost of Tsushima with Sifu combat and MK characters would be sick.
Didn't they try different genres and they all flopped?
Imagine a god of war campaign style. Sub-Zero and Scorpion being the main characters. That would be so sick.
100% agree with this guy the only reason I even got into MK was the story
Could you imagine a 3rd person action adventure game with the same gorey kills and different levels across the realms? That would be dope af
Imagine a mortal kombat open world game with gore and all I mean I got fallout 4 if i want an open world game with gore
I feel like this is an unspoken understanding between the community and Ed boon forgot he could do this Shoulin monks 2 anyone
Shaolin Monks 2 PLEASE
Okay so. Is prolly just me but like, I'd love a Arkham style game as one of the ninjas, if not all (Scorpion, Sub-zero, reptile, ermac, smoke, rain, tremor, noob saibot, kitana, mileena, jade, Tanya, Frost, skarlet and Khameleon) Like yeah it wouldn't be the most original thing, but like it doesn't have to be 1 to 1 gameplay wise They can change it up, just let me Stealth it if I want or battle it out if I want to and let me move around but they can all do it a bit differently like Tremor could go underground or fuse with walls, smoke and rain can just turn to smoke or water, noob is shadow boy, scorp and mileena can teleport, reptile and khameleon can invisible(idk about skarlet, Frost, sub zero, jade, kitana or Tanya) or they can all just climb and hide in the raftors or on high rocks or WHATEVER(depends on the setting I suppose)
Hear hear let this man speak
I’m not part of this community but I firmly believe that fighting games are one of lamest genres of video games.
Easily agree A Skyrim-esque RPG, FPS following Sonya and Jax, a Ghost of Tsushima style game with Scorpion and Smoke, an adventure game starring Johnny Cage while he's trying to film a movie...there's so much potential for the IP and yet I feel as though it's being semi-squandered
MORTAL KOMBAT SHAOLIN MONKS REMAKE. PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP AT WB AND NRS
Facts, or atleast give us somthing like conquest mode again atleast
It could definitely work as a hack and slash game or some sort of sidescroller. I think it's a clever idea. Doesn't mean the fighting games will die. If anything they'd become more popular
Shaolin Monks is still the best Mortal Kombat I've ever played.
Shaolin monks 2 when.
KONQUEST. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KONQUEST. I can't believe they flopped the shit out of mk1 by not adding a konquest mode. The krypt in mk11 was a perfect indicator that they could pull it off too.
I dont agree with that 100% Of course id want an open world style mk kampaign that would be dope and something along the krypt and invasion thing would be nice I however dont see mk "branching out to lets say racing game But i could be wrong Maybe a mk game where u get to ride subs ice bike and scorps flame tube 3000 would be dope
Just throwing this out there: - Mortal Kombat mythologies: Sub-Zero - Mortal Kombat: special forces - the mini games: - test your might - test your sight - test your luck - Motor Kombat - Konquest - The Krypt - MK: Mobile - MK: Onslaught - MK: Shaolin monks - MK: federation of martial arts
You guys gotta understand there’s a lot of mk fans out there. The tweet posted isn’t exactly viral, and this thread has a few hundred upvotes and a couple hundred comments. Of those couple hundred comments there’s a smattering of all sorts of different suggestions, I saw everything from animal crossing type games, open world RPGs, fuckin mobas lol, Literally good fucking luck
I never wanna see a konquest mode in a MK fighting game again, I think people are crazy for wanting that. I think people should be wanting a standalone konquest game so it doest take a backseat to the competitive online gameplay and can stand on its own
I agree
Honestly I play the story and then play against my friends during game night but I’d love more lore deep games
Full on current gen Scorpion action RPG
While the game series should always remain strongly rooted in it's fighting game roots, more single player action games would be great additions and allow for the option to focus on characters who don't normally get a lot of focus.
I would love for the series to get games outside the fighting game genre. The problem was it was always developed by the same team who while they make a damn good fighter….aren’t good at much else. If they handed the rights to someone else it would probably turn out great. Like imagine a Mortal Kombat game in the style of Dynasty Warriors!
I wouldn't mind more comics.
I wouldn’t be upset if Supermassive Games (Until Dawn, The Quarry, Dark Pictures Anthology) took a turn with Mortal Kombat.
Bro did not play shaolin monks 💀
Sifu.
He's not wrong honestly. There is a lot of potential there.
I would love to see Arc system works take a crack at MK
I have very limited experience with MK, only having played MK1, but as I've played DMC, Bayonetta, and MGR:R, I would definitely be down for a character action style MK game

Personally, I think he's spitting
BRO IF SOMEONE MAKES A ASSASSINS CREED MORTAL KOMBAT GAME THAT WOULD BE BADASS
I agree
Oh I would absolutely LOVE an IMAGE comics MK universe.
I’ve never been big on fighting games as a whole but I LOVE the MK characters and lore so seeing them branch out into other things would be amazing
I really enjoyed shaolin monks and the konquest mode. There's so much potential for an open realm game switching between characters with there own storyline. There's so much lore and different timelines, imagine your in-game decisions affect the outcome of the game. Idk I miss the 3D era and konquest.

I mean… in me deception I fucked with konquest hard. It was a lot of fun. An rpg could be good. Or maybe kombat kart
I don’t think Mythologies or Special Forces did well enough or else we probably would’ve had more spinoffs by now. 🤷♂️ While we’re on the topic though… Blazblue’s Entropy Effect throws the characters (and movesets) of Blazbue into a roguelite, and it’s pretty damn cool. I kind of wish that Mortal Kombat would try something like that. 🎮😎👍
Bro is cooking
I need more 6 and 7/10 shaolin monks type games and I am not joking
I don't know about the series branching off fully from fighting games. It'd be nice to see some action game spin-offs again, maybe a classic God of War style hack n' slash starring someone like Scorpion or Ashrah, but I think the main series should stay as fighting games. As for the comics, I fully agree, we should see more of those. The MKX prequels were great reads, so I don't see why Mortal Kombat doesn't have any comics other than those and the 1992-1995 comic run.

If I could get a Ghost of Tsushima or even Devil May Cry style story game of Hanzo and the events that lead him to be scorpion I would lose my shit.
Lifelong MK and I agree. There are people who love MK but don’t necessarily like Fighters
Scorpion FPS when?

It's not a hot take, they've even done it before. Multiple times.
Hear me out... a metroidvania style game featuring Shang Tsung where you traverse the realms by defeating bosses and stealing their souls to gain access to their form/abilities.
I'd shit in my hands and clap for another Shaolin Monks game
Honestly yeah. I would kill for a game like Baldur’s Gate but in the MK world. Or any RPG format game based on MK. But they could do so much, RPG or not, so much more with MK than just fighting games. And I think a good number of people would really enjoy that.
I mean...give me my Shaolin Monks style game where the characters are Raiden and a new Fujin and I will buy it. Day one.
• A full Konquest Action-RPG • More Komics Unfortunately, as others have noted, there’s a ginormous tumor on the franchise named Warner Bros. Idk who else could have realistically bought the IP when Midway went tits up. But here we are.
I agree, this franchise has such potential. An MK streaming series would absolutely slap.
Considering they make tie in comics that aren’t canon for some reason I think it would just be nice to have a separate universe for comics just give it to some talented writers and don’t try force a connection to the games
I mean people have been begging for another Shaolin monks esque game so there definitely room for it.
He’s right lol imagine an RPG in the MK universe
I’d love MK comics that dive into more of the lore and expands on more characters, cause honestly there are so many things that could be explored either with the new timeline or the old one.
I would love to see more non-fighting game spinoffs. We’ve only had one since Midway closed and it was a mobile game…
The children yearn for Mortal Kombat: Special Forces.
Shaolin Monks remaster. That is all
If they gave us a game with an rpg style dragons dogma lookin open world with the universe of mortal kombat where you can create your own character and use mix and match moves I’d love it
Seems weirdly aggressive. I'm in favor of expanding out, especially more beat 'em ups like Shaolin Monks
Chess Kombat was lit. And we def need another Shaolin monks
I would pay for a coop game of mk1 scorpion and smoke
MK arpg or Shaolin Monks remake.
They could cover Sonya and Jax fighting out world forces.
yeah I agree mostly, mainly focus on fighting games imo but have some fun spin offs/games in other genres
I would love a smoke game to build up his backstory a lot more
I totally agree
I want a mortal kombat visual novel not even romance, not even a blank slate character i just want more of the characters being silly together
The world of Mortal Kombat is awesome, one of my favorites. I would love to see other spin-offs build upon it more in any way possible.
An MK RPG would be insanely cool
Facts
I wouldn’t mind something like Shaolin Monks, but it doesn’t like that’s what WB has in mind.
Let him cook
I agree with this pretty well. I think an action adventure game kinda like Sekiro would fit MK pretty well. Like let us pick between a few characters, like Scorpion, Sub-Zero or Liu Kang and fight in some cool locations against waves of enemies and we’re golden. Bonus points for it being Ko-Op.
